Picked Upload
Maxis Recolour
This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
This is a Maxis Recolour which means that it is a recolour of an item that already exists in your game. Please check the Expansion pack requirements to see which game pack it recolours.
This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Expansion pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS2 - check the sidebar.
This is a new mesh recolour, and means that you will need to download the particular mesh itself in order for this to show up in your game. See the Meshes Needed section or read the text for more information.
Since I recolored the Penn Station chair and the funky "loft dining" chairs, both of which I tend to use as desk chairs just as often, if not more often, than I use them as dining chairs, I got impatient with myself and wanted matching desks for them and so I went ahead and made 'em. Figured I'd share.
So here are four basegame desks, each in the same 12 colors as the other furniture I've been recoloring. Generally, these and the Bakonmi Sprok desk from AL are pretty much the only desks I use. Therefore, they are PROBABLY the only desks I'll be recoloring, unless someone shoots me off a request for something. I'll be putting the AL one in a separate upload because otherwise it was a "One of these things is not like the others" kind of situation. Plus, I also recolored the chair that matches it, so it's an actual little set. For now, here are the basegame desks:The Retratech Economy Desk: This is, obviously, a recolor of the solid color version. I also have a fondness for the version that has contrasting white parts, which I like to pair with white chairs in rooms that otherwise have white in them. If I decide to go ahead and recolor that version, I'll probably stick 'em on my LJ and/or update this upload here, so...I guess keep an eye out. Also, I golded-and-shinied-up the drawer knob because the original color looked a bit dull, especially against the darker colors in my palette. Why EAxis made such dull hardware, pretty much across the board, I'll never know. But maybe that's just my pro-shiny-things bias showing...The Home Office Desk: Yes, I took the flowers off the drawers. Generally, if something has painted-on flowers on it, they're coming off when I recolor it. If nothing else, they wouldn't have "translated" onto some of these colors very well anyway. So, if you like the flowers, I offer my apologies. And, again, the knobs got brightened/shined, too, so that they contrast nicely with, especially, the darker colors here. The Counter Productive Work Surface: Yep, the hardware also got golded/shined on this one. Dull hardware just doesn't do it for me.The Chiclettina Execudrone Desk: This one looks really nice when used with the "loft" chairs, which I guess isn't surprising because internally it's called the "loft desk." So, I had a bit of fun with the Twirl filter and put a bit of swirl in the graining on the base of these, so that they'd sort of complement the swirl I put on the wood bits of the loft chairs. These are also a bit "re-engineered" from the original color options. The originals are kind of mixed-media and two-tone, so that the part of the desktop on the left side of the desk ends up made of a different material and is in a different color than both the base and the glass part; I made it so that it's just wood, plus the glass. I think it looks a lot cleaner. You COULD mix and match the woods if you wanted to (or mix and match with the EAxis textures), since the desktop and the base recolor separately and one set of files gives you the color options for both parts, but I don't see why you would WANT to do that, with these colors. But hey, what do I know? So...Yeah, that's the deal. I RARed these up separately, so you can download only the one(s) you want. By corollary, if you do want 'em all, I'm afraid you'll have to download four files. As always, the files are already Compressorized and are clearly named so that you can easily ditch the colors you don't like/want/need. Also as always, I hope that these will be helpful to my fellow OCD-about-stuff-what-matches folks. ![]() PS: HugeLunatic made cute, space-saving little one-tile versions of some of these particular desks, and if you have those, these will recolor them, too. Her desks are linked on the "Related Pages" tab, if you don't have 'em but might want 'em. 471 people have said thanks to iCad for this download.
