IMPORTANT - Walls and Fence-Arches share the same ID space (a custom wall can NOT have the same ID of a custom fence-arch!). Therefore, when installing a new custom wall, you should ensure that it will not conflict with any other wall or fence-arch. IMPORTANT - The "Unleveled wall" has been reported by some users to be a little unstable. If you experience random crashes, remove the file "90_UnleveledWall.txt" from the folder Scriptorium_Walls-Fences-Arches.If you don't use the Scriptorium, it's time to do it now: see below, "Automatic Installation". ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CURRENTLY ASSIGNED WALL/FENCE-ARCH IDs (UPDATED 24 NOV 2008) Please refer to the list below when assigning IDs to new custom walls or fence-arches, and report to me (by PM or posting in this thread) any ID that you claim for your exclusive use. By now, it's very unlikely that Maxis will release any more walls; therefore, any unused ID in the entire range 1 -- 65535 can be claimed as "reserved" by modders. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01: MAXIS - normal walls 02: MAXIS - Picket Rail fence (not in catalog) 03: MAXIS - attic walls (not in catalog) 04: MAXIS - non-rendered deck skirt (not in catalog) 16: MAXIS - deck skirt (not in catalog) 23: MAXIS - foundation walls (not in catalog) 24: MAXIS - deck skirt (not in catalog) 26: MAXIS - Deck Aged Wood fence arch 29: MAXIS - Pool wall 30--44: FOREVERJADON - Pool walls (not online any more, but still reserved) 80: NUMENOR - FenceArch, Standard Trellis, Lightwood 81: NUMENOR - FenceArch, Standard Trellis, White 82: NUMENOR - FenceArch, Standard Trellis, Black 83: NUMENOR - FenceArch, Standard Trellis, Orange 84: NUMENOR - FenceArch, Suspended Trellis, Brown 85: NUMENOR - FenceArch, Suspended Trellis, Lightwood 86: NUMENOR - FenceArch, Suspended Trellis, White 87: NUMENOR - FenceArch, Suspended Trellis, Black 88: NUMENOR - FenceArch, Suspended Trellis, Orange 90: NUMENOR - Unleveled wall (attached to this post) 91: NUMENOR - Invisible wall (attached to this post) 92: NUMENOR - Prison wall (attached to this post) 93-94: SNAPPLEDUDE21 - Custom walls needed for Walk-in Basements 95: NUMENOR - "No - Cut Away" wall (attached to this post) 120-123: CLICKNPSYCHO (work in progress, not uploaded yet) 124: CLICKNPSYCHO - Pre-painted Insulated Wall 125: CLICKNPSYCHO - Pre-painted Insulated Attic Wall 126: CLICKNPSYCHO - Pre-painted Insulated Foundation Wall 200-204: DEVIL'S ROPE (work in progress, not uploaded yet) 300: MAXIS - Normal Wall (OFB) (not in catalog) 301: MAXIS - "Screen Wood" (OFB) (not in catalog) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 23 NOV 2008 - Registered IDs 80--88 for my Custom Fence-Arches. 28 OCT 2006 - I've UPDATED all my custom walls, to ensure compatibility with PETS, and also to add a CUSTOM CATALOG DESCRIPTION, so that you can locate them easier. Before installing the new walls, please DELETE the old text files from the Scriptorium folder (Unleveled, Invisible, Prison and NoCutAway). Then download the desired walls from post #1 and unpack all the files included (the text file AND the .package) into the Scriptorium folder. If you don't have Pets, the updated walls will have the new custom description; but if you have Pets, you will gain also the new Pets tools: the "Diagonal Room" tool and the "Octagonal Room" tool. With Pets, the catalog will look like this: . If after having updated the walls you still have missing icons, be sure to clean up the icon cache, by opening the folder (documents)\EA Games\The Sims 2\Thumbnails and DELETING all the packages within that folder (the game will recreate them on the first run). 26 SEPT 2006 - The automatic installer has been removed: all its functions are now included in the SCRIPTORIUM. Go get it! - A special "Scriptorium" version of the various walls have been added, (suitable for both Win and Mac users).19 SEPT 2006 - OLD NEWS (Was: New automatic installer for custom walls) 19 SEPT 2006 - New "No - Cut Away" wall added (see details at the end of this post), as per request by Inge Jones. 11 JULY 2005 - Snappledude21 has registered two new walls, needed for his Walk-in Basement. You can find his post here, but note that he has posted a complete ready-to-use "walls.txt": if you install it manually, you will lose all the other custom walls. Use the Scriptorium, instead. 06 JUNE 2005 - Foreverjadon has removed his pool walls, due to problems with two unnamed sites that were stoling his work. While putting the blame on all the nasty persons that do such awful things, the links to Foreverjadon's pool walls were removed. 04 MAY 2005 - (Old news no longer valid) Foreverjadon has created a 16 Pools pack [link removed], that is based on the same principle of the Invisible walls: a special edition of the "Walls.txt" game file. Now, as you might guess, only 1 custom Walls.txt can be installed at a time, so I let Foreverjadon to merge my custom Walls with his custom Pools. If you want to have in your game both the Walls and the Pools, download the "merged" packages ("full" or "light" version) from Foreverjadon's Pool thread [link removed]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ HOW TO USE THE CUSTOM WALLS Regarding the type of installation you have chosen and the walls that you have actually installed, you will find in the Build tools, next to the standard wall icon, one or more icons, that can be selected to build a custom wall: ![]() The new "No - Cut Away" wall has the following icon: Note: all the walls have a second "room" icon, that can be used to build rooms using the different walls. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ What are the differences between the various walls? 1) The Unleveled wall can be built on slopes, while all the other walls, including the Maxis one, will flatten the ground: ----(Maxis)---------(Un-leveled)-------(Invisible/Prison)--- ![]() 2) The Un-leveled wall can be built under uneven roofs, while using any other wall (including the Maxis one) will not be permitted by the game: ![]() 3) The Invisible wall and the Prison wall are both invisible (and both cast shadows), but they manage the light in a different way: the Invisible blocks the light, while the Prison doesn't. This means that: a) If no windows are added, the Invisible rooms are darker (Invisible wall on the left, Prison on the right): ![]() b) Adding some windows, the Invisible room lits up, while the Prison room isn't affected at all: ![]() c) By night, electric light can pass only through Prison walls: ![]() d) The Prison room (I don't know why) don't need privacy: the sims won't "shoo" other sims when they have to get naked. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ). Beside this, the No-CutAway is a normal wall.In the following screenshots, the red section is a "No-CutAway" wall: -------(Maxis)---------(No Cut Away)----- Please note that "No-CutAway" walls CAN be partly torn down (see the leftmost red panel above), when the adjacent normal wall is fully down. Note also that doors and windows put on No-CutAway walls never dirappear, even if the wall section is partially down. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ What happen if I download and install a lot containing custom walls, but I didn't install the custom walls in my game? In such cases, depending on the game version (base game, UNI, NL...), the game will either:- Remove completely the missing custom walls, as if they were never built (OFB games and newer), orThe game shouldn't crash, or at least this never happened in my tests. 2298 people have said thanks to Numenor for this download. 1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer. 2. Extract: Use WinRAR (Windows) or Stuffit (Mac) to extract the .package file(s) from the .rar or .zip file(s). 3. AUTOMATIC INSTALLATION (Windows users only) Preliminary steps (not strictly required, just to "clean up" a little): If you have modified by hand the walls.txt in the past, or you have previously used the older Walls installer, replace the current walls.txt with the backup attached to this post. Then, download and install the SCRIPTORIUM (you need to do that only once). When done, download desired custom walls (attached to this post in zip format), and extract the files from them. Looking in your Downloads folder, you will see a new shortcut "Scriptorium_Walls-Fences-Arches": open it and put all the extracted files (.txt and .package) in that folder; you can also drag&drop if you like. You're done! No more manual editing of the walls.txt file! :D NOTE: though it may sound unusual, in this specific case the .package files must be installed in the mentioned Scritproium folder, and NOT in the Downloads! To uninstall the custom walls, open again the folder Scriptorium folder, from within your Downloads, and remove the unwanted walls (TXT and .package files). MANUAL INSTALLATION (Windows and Mac users) Set up your game as explained in the manual installation instructions in the SCRIPTORIUM page, then download the wall definitions attached below, and install them into the folder "Scriptorium_Walls-Fences-Arches", accessible from the Downloads. To manually uninstall the custom walls, open again the "Scriptorium_Walls-Fences-Arches" from your Downloads, and remove the undesired walls definitions (delete the .txt files).
