Hi, please forgive me if this question has been answered elsewhere but I've looked and couldn't see that it has been.

I have made a new table cloned from an EA table whose texture png is 512 x 256. I would like to enlarge the png size to 512 x 512. I have been told that all I need to do is go into the Texture plugin view and hit build and then enter my new dimensions into the pop-up box, then presumably just import my new png.

However, as I am going through the process of importing my new mesh, when I get to the texture step and hit the build button this is what happens: the box pops up, I change the number to 512 x 512 and then close the box. I notice that the size dimension doesn't change in the left hand box (although it adds a 512x512 line to the list of dimensions there) but continue forward anyway. I go to import my new png over the old png and nothing happens...SimPe just sits there doing nothing. SimPe is not frozen...it does allow me to do other things, but it will not import my texture. So I choose the other selection, the shadow selection, and then return to the wood texture selection. I change the number back to 512 x 256 and then it allows me to import my (now too large) png. But when I look at the object texture using the open file feature my texture is black and it will not allow me to change it.

So, long story short...I would appreciate any advice/help changing png size that I can get. I do have the NVIDIA DDS utilites installed if that matters.

Thanks!

Try to built your new texture with the DDSUtility, (not with the option import) as was explained here
http://www.modthesims2.com/member/showthread.php?t=102356
Your new size would be automatically applied.

Thanks MaryLou...but if I am understanding that thread correctly this is a process you are doing when recoloring. I want to have the mesh use a completely differently sized png each and every time with no special steps for recolorists. So what I would like to do is change the png size in the actual mesh itself while I am creating the mesh. Is there a way of doing that?

It doesn't matter if you're importing the texture to a mesh or a recolor package, it works exactly the same way. And no special steps are required for recoloring it afterwards.

Hmm...well I went to this thread here http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=86151 guided from the one above. I now know that although I have been using that NVIDIA thing (or at least I thought I was) to import pngs of the same size as the one already there, because I use PSP instead of PS I can't do the DDS thing to import one that is of a different size. It makes me question whether the NVIDIA thing is doing anything for me at all. This gives you a good illustration of how well-versed in all of this I am...er...barely.

Anyway, if I am reading that thread correctly, it also says I can manually change the png size by altering the mip-map. Before no one told me I have to change the little number to a 10 to use a 512 x 512 png so maybe that is my problem. I will do this and try again. If this doesn't work I'll be back

Thanks so much for helping me!

orangemittens, it doesn't matter if you use Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, both will work just fine. Note, that you import your texture as a PNG, and use the Build DXT option when importing. Any paint program that can handle PNG files will work just fine. No need to do any manual resizing of mip maps.

When I try to do it that way it says the new texture map is the wrong size and wants to resize it. I know I must be doing something wrong but I can't figure out what that might be.

Ah-ha-ha...it worked! I changed the little number from a 9 to a 10 and then clicked build. Then I filled my new dimensions into the pop-up box. I right clicked on the image just as you said and it took my 512 x 512 png without a stutter. Thank you so much for your help :)
