View Full Version : New look "Create" front page

Hi All,

Those of you who frequent the "Create" section may notice that the Create link in the navbar now takes you to a page that looks suspiciously wiki-like.

In essence, we've created, categorised, and organised all of the current tutorials available in our Create section across all the various sections, and put them on the Sims2Wiki, sorted by section. This provides a much better view into the sort of things you are able to do, and is a lot easier to manage and maintain that the old page.

Many of the tutorial pages link back to MTS2, or sometimes to other sites - this is entirely intentional, so don't worry if you just get taken right back here. :)

This project (among others) is the culmination of months of work by few dedicated people: Delphy, HystericalParoxysm, whiterider, Starbuck, with help from Lethe_s and IgnorantBliss, as well as niol, patul and others in the Building section.

Remember that becuase it's a wiki it can be easily changed, and presents the same interface as http://sims2wiki.info except without the left bar. This is so as to not confuse people.

We hope you like this - as always, let me know if there is anything missing!

The new link is: http://www.modthesims2.com/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Create

Regards
Delphy

This is great. I've always found the old tutorials section a bit tricky to navigate when I'm looking for something. Now it's a lot more organized.

You mentioned that "it's a wiki" and that "it can be easily changed", but I can't find any edit links. Am I missing something, or are not we allowed to edit (yet)? I hope we can; I'm actually looking forward to contributing a thing or two.

The main URL for that page, on the actual wiki itself is here: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Sims_2_Modding

Most of the pages are editable as long as you're a registered sims2wiki user - however, if you're going to be making any major edits or changing anything that's already there, because of the nature of the wiki (trying to present accurate information in the best way possible) and some further changes that may already be planned, please edit the discussion pages to talk about your changes before doing so - probably won't be a problem but having someone say, "Sure, go ahead," beforehand is a lot better than someone going, "Argggggh, what did you doooooo???" after the fact. :)

The editing links are insivible when using the MTS2 interface to the Wiki - but they are visible on the actual wiki site itself.

As HP said please use the Talk (Discussion) pages to talk about major changes before you do them. :)

The new create section really is great and contains great information. The wiki presents it in a much more easy to use manor.

Thanks to all that helped create it. :D

:bummmm..:
: niol felt faint and lost his consciousness: after opening the "All Tutorials" link...

There're just too many tutorials for him to read and learn...
Not long later, he soon realised he should stick with his interests to get started...

A good idea ! MTS2 is also a great place of learning and it's fair to put the tutorials on the Sims2Wiki.

Too many tutorials ? Arf, "petit à petit l'oiseau fait son nid"... and there is a "Don't panic - Start here" part who his very interesting. Thank you Delphy ! :)

My $0.02:

I think it is about time you gussied up that page. However, while all the tutorials links are prominent and have nice icons, the links to the forums are small, text links stuck down in the corner.

I know real estate is always an issue on page design, but I think you need to make a section nearly as prominent as the tutorials for "discussion forums".

Funny how just YESTERDAY i was saying that these new change made MTS2 a better place for new comers, But adding the wiki more or less directly to MTS2 is a great idea for budding creators and bored one's who want more!
Thanks SOOOOO much!!
But what about the liks previously made? Will that still lork perfectly?
[Check out my Sig!!]

Yes, previously-made links will still work fine, PETCHY14. All of the tutorials and threads are still on MTS2 - that's just a better index to them. :)

Thank you for this good and helpful job

* I don't see a link to the "building forum" in the "Discussion Forums / Search" section ...is it normal ?
* when you click an icon (not the text) you reach this kind of page : http://www.modthesims2.com/wiki.php?title=Image:Icon-tools.gif

I've added a couple of links and made them bigger - it's not perfect but it'll have to do for now.

Err Irma, it's 2 clicks away. Build Mode Tutorials then select Landscaping (or Pools). The tutorial is in that list.

It's certainly not hard to find - lakes and pools can only be made in Build Mode, so checking there has Pools right on the front page... I fail to see how that's "difficult".

I really like the new page, except for one part, it took me awhile to find the Creator Feedback Forum link. It seems as it is just tucked away, between the other links. :)

Well, I guess one of the downsides of your change is the following two error messages I got a few moments before posting this:

Warning: file_get_contents(): php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Temporary failure in name resolution in /wiki.php on line 34

Warning: file_get_contents(http://sims2wiki.info/index.php?title=MTS2:Create): failed to open stream: Connection timed out in /wiki.php on line 34

I am sure you will get whatever is broken fixed (the wiki site worked for me when I cheked it just now). Just wanted you to know about the error messages.
