How to Photoshop Using Paint.NET
paint.NET is the kind of unknown paint program that, if you know how to use it, can achieve excellent and stunning results like:

To download paint.NET check out:http://www.getpaint.net/

So let's start off by picking out a picture and making an advert. For some great model poses, go here:http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=244917

Here's my image.

Getting Your Image
So, open your image of choice in paint.NET: (Warning, these images may be large.)
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/8607/tutozb9.th.jpg (http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tutozb9.jpg)
Get to know these tools, remember, nothing looks perfect on your first try!

Now, choose what you want to advertise. Today I'm choosing hair dye.

Getting Your Background
Cut out the background behind your sim using the lasso tool, then create a new layer. Move this down behind your sim using the little blue arrow on the layer menu.
Insert whatever background image you want (I chose the Eiffel Tower).
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/505/backkieel6.th.jpg (http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=backkieel6.jpg)

Find an image of whatever product you are endorsing. I'm using an image of Clairol's Nice 'n Easy Blonde. You can choose what you want.
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/668/imhun8.th.jpg (http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=imhun8.jpg)

Pasting Your Object
Create yet another layer, but don't move it down below the layer named "Background" leave it as it is. Insert your object, and if the image is too large, don't select "Expand canvas" select "Don't Expand Canvas". Pretty Easy, right? Make sure you refrain from choosing a product with too many bumps. Now make your image smaller so that there's room for text.
Ignore the white (or whatever colour) around your image for now.

Lasso it!
Now here's the tricky part again. Using the lasso tool, cut out your object. Remember to zoom in a little to make it easier. Remember, keep practicing!
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/6185/lassoea9.th.jpg (http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lassoea9.jpg)

Duplicate it!
Now, go to the Layer menu at the top of the Window and select "Duplicate Layer" this will make an identical image. Go to the first version of "Layer 3".
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9710/dupth6.th.jpg (http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dupth6.jpg)

Distort it, Blur it, Stretch it!
Now you can go crazy. Go to the effects menu and the Blur tab is at the top. Select either radial or motion blur. Experiment and see what looks best. You can even repeat the Duplicate and Blur process with your sim! Follow the instructions properly above.
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/7448/radild9.th.jpg (http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=radild9.jpg)
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/6091/samejg9.th.jpg (http://img144.imageshack.us/my.php?image=samejg9.jpg)

Squash it!
Now, go to the Image menu at the top of the Window and select Flatten. OR type the key combo ctrl+shift+F.
Your image is one now. This is vital if you want the image in game, as well as to upload to forums. But we're not done yet, oh no!

Insertin' the Text
Now to insert the text. Create new layer. Find a font that best matches your product, find a colo(u)r that best matches your product as well. Remember, if the background is dark, opt for a light colo(u)r and vice-versa.
Find a cool slogan, like; Awesome locks? Clairol makes it Nice 'n Easy! Find a good spot for writing and advertise away!
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/2025/textfg7.th.jpg (http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=textfg7.jpg)

Borderline
Flatten the image again. Now it's time to make a border. Select a colour that looks best for a border around your image. Flatten the image.
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5342/bordergv3.th.jpg (http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bordergv3.jpg)

Finishing Touches
Now, just to sharpen up (excuse the pun) your ad, go to Effects --> Sharpen Image.
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/2631/shaerpbu9.th.jpg (http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=shaerpbu9.jpg)

You're finished! Upload your creations here, I'd love to see them! Good luck!

Heya, I downloaded paint.NET and I love it but I have a question.

I've seen some photoshopped pictures on this forum of a Sim being placed on a single-colour background or a photo without any seams or pixels around them which give away that they've been 'cut' or lasoo'd. How do you do that so seamlessly? Is their a trick to it?

You can download paint colours for things like that to give an in-game background to limit the photoshopping OR you can also download this backdrop thingy...that I can't remember the location of. It comes as a rug and it works as a photographers background.

Also, you can use the magic wand the cut them out, then just erase the little pixels.

Thanks for an easy-to-understand tutorial!
I started using paint.NET just recently. Its worth downloading, and I love free software! My only problem is I cant seem to rotate my layers, they just disappear. Maybe its just my version...

Yeah, you have to make rotations very small. ^^

Ok, I found a plug-in that allows you to rotate a selection. I have not tried it yet, but here's the link. It would sure help to make better pictures.

The magic wand, Nikki, the magical wand of mystical powers! (Put the sim on a contrasting background)

Thanks for the plug-in link, Sayyadina, but (lol) I have PhotoShop now. xD
