View Full Version : Deleting Custom Content

Sorry if I put this in the wrong place, but I wasn't sure where else to put it.
with all the new CC coming out, I've downloaded a few things, some of which came in large sets and I don't want all the files from that set. I thought I'd be able to just delete them in-game, but the delete button doesn't show up when I click on the item. It also seems that not all my custom content is showing up as custom. Is there anyway to delete the stuff in game? and if not, for the things that came in large sets but only have one package file, how do I get rid of the parts I don't want? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

This is why a most excellent organization system is an absolute must in TS3 (definitely moreso than in TS2, back to TS1 style organization).
You can't delete the type of custom content that we players create within the game. But here is what you CAN do to help you track them down after you've put them in your game and decide you don't want them.
If you used the Installer Helper Monkey you have a configuration file that allows you to go several folders deep within the packages folder. For each type of thing you download, have at least one folder. When you download something, save a picture with it. Make sure to name the picture the exact same name the downloaded file has so you know what is what.
Because I got into naming conventions and a file structure like this way back in TS days I not only kept it in my game but added it to all of the custom content I created, so I'll use a CC file and its image as an example. Say I create a new fabric pattern for TS3. I name that pattern bsi_rc_TS3Pattern-fabric-namegoeshere.packge Then when I save my picture of that image to use on the website, I copy and paste the name of the .package file for the name of the image, so in the end the image is named bsi_rc_TS3Pattern-fabric-namegoeshere.jpg. When you install the .package file to your game, plop the .jpg file in with it. Then when you look in that folder the .package and .jpg files show up right next to each other (provided they're sorted by name) so all you have to do is view the image and you know exactly what the pattern is. If you don't want to keep the images in with your downloads (they never affected load time or anything in TS2 and I don't expect they will in TS3 because it should just ignore the image files) you can keep them stashed somewhere else with the original archives you downloaded, then check there for reference. I keep everything I download in its original form on my second hard-drive, then also keep a back-up of the folder where my downloads are on that drive. If I move something out of my game, I'll even put it in a folder on that drive called Moved-out Downloads just in case I change my mind later and want to put it back.
There is only one problem to an organizational system like this, and that's that if you download a lot of things you'll spend almost as much time organizing as you do playing the game, but take it from me, it is time well spent when the time comes that you want to be rid of something or want to move things around for better organization.

Wow, that is a nice system. I'm too lazy for that, but that is probably the best form of organizing TS3 stuff that I've come across, and would definitely help in tracking down stuff later on.

AMEN (to both) takes forever but totally worth it

Wow...that IS an impressive organization system.
I've got a fairly good organization system (download type, site name, and when needed creator name) and I've got some package viewers for the stuff I don't have images for, but what about the things like clothes & accessories that sometimes come with one package but have multiple files in it?
and yes, because of the way I organize things (and the fact that I'm a downloadaholic) I spend WAY more time organizing & getting files then i do playing the game...especially since my game is a little laggy. (I need more RAM)

If cc contents are package files that you have to install through SIMS3 launcher(sims3 icon), just deleting the file won't help.
You have to open the LAUNCHER and see DOWNLODS tab. Then cilck "uninstall" those packages from the game via launcher. Those files will be completely out of your game.
If they are monkey cc(you can see monkey icons), you can just delete them right away. No need for launcher uninstall.
