I played Sims2 for years until my game crashed. I finally bought a new copy, Sims2 Double Deluxe, and encountered something I never noticed before. When a person who has quite a few creativity points begins a painting, you have the option of doing a custom painting. I clicked on it, and read the information. It said to go to User Data and open the painting file. You can upload pictures to that file supposedly even while playing. I thought it was a really neat feature. But for the life of me, I cannot find where the User Data is! I can't find it anywhere on the game console. I also quit the game, went to my documents, and looked all through the Sims files. Still can't find it. Can anyone help me?

I don't think they meant that the folder name is "User Data" but they meant that wherever the data files for your copy of The Sims 2 are kept. Like "Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads" would be the downloads folder in/within your user data. Where I put images to be painted by my sims is "Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Paintings". Put a shortcut of the Paintings folder on your desktop. Or you can navigate upward one directory from the Downloads folder; assuming you already know how to get to your downloads folder.

If they really are expecting it to be in a folder called "User Data" then I would guess that it has changed in later expansion packs. My latest I guess is Bon Voyage. I'd go check in the game for you, but the lot I am currently taking a break from playing, doesn't have any high creativity sims at the moment. Just my first twins that have me ready to kill off the whole family. Actually, I think mom might have high creativity, but I'm not yet calm enough to keep from killing her.

From what I can remember, the game comes with some examples in the folder you want. So, when you have that window that lets you choose the file you want to have your sim paint, look at the name of the provided examples. Some of mine were lumberjack.jpg, pirate_ship.jpg, rain_house.jpg, and snow_fountain.jpg. Then you can search for that file on your hard drive to know where the correct folder is located. Just another thought.

Thanks for your response, Cheshirekat. However that doesn't explain how I am supposed to be able to download pictures into this "paintings" folder while I am still playing the game. I previously had the base game, NL, and OFB. I remember that high creativity Sims could paint still lifes and family portraits, but this custom painting option is something new to me. (And I have run into a number of things I haven't seen before with this Double Deluxe.)

Alt-tab out of your game, take any picture you want off the internet as long as the size of the file or it's dimensions are not too big. Copy it to the Picture Folder. Go back to your game, and when your sim is at the easel, click on custom painting. When the dialogue box comes up, you should see you pictures as an option, if not, press the reload button in the same dialogue box and it should show then.

Thank you for your help! I created a paintings folder in my Sims file, put in a few pictures from the internet... and then went back to the game, had my sim do a custom painting, and lo and behold, the pictures I had uploaded appeared in the custom painting box!
