Saw this on Snooty Sims. EA UK has The Sims 3 Design & Hi-Tech Stuff listed on their site. Its the first stuff pack for The Sims 3 and its to be released February 5th next year (most likely February 2nd for North America). The info on EA UK about it is this:
Transform your Sims’ homes into sleek, edgy apartments with The Sims 3 Design & High-Tech Stuff. There's a host of new items for your most lived-in rooms, including slick gadgets for your high-tech study, a next-gen gaming system for the killer game room and modern furniture for the most contemporary living room. Now your Sims can give their homes an ultra-modern makeover! The Sims 3 Design & Hi-Tech Stuff requires The Sims 3 or The Sims 3 Collector's Edition to play.

Also according to Snooty Sims this pack is actually a 10th Anniversary pack and includes three items from the former Sim games: The heart-shaped vibrating bed, the electric guitar, and the aquarium. Hopefully the electric guitar will have some new songs, otherwise whats the use in adding it, and the aquarium better let you put more than one fish in it.

And this is the current cover for it

Haha, jokes asides, it has potential. Shall just have to see what the objects and stuff look like, and whether it'll be worth paying for, depending on the price. It'd be great to have a new guitar, and the aquarium back!

What would have caused them to no longer need to make Stuff Packs? The store is less popular than stuff packs are, and there are people who either hate downloading content online or can't download content online. And then you have people who buy from the store, but all the EPs, and will buy all SPs.

The differences in the name of the stuff pack make no sense to me.

What is described sounds more appropriate being called Design and Hi-Tech.

High end loft stuff just sounds wrong, as though someone doesn't know what a loft is.

Either way, I'm glad to hear about it. I am looking forward to a real aquarium again.

ug, the electric guitar. When will EA learn that guitars, drums, and your voice are only a tiny fraction of what instruments there are out there?

Outerwear is probably like the trench coat in the store, its just something you can have your sims wear as their everyday outfit. Would be nice if it was a hint as to what EP 2 will be though, I really want weather back.

I don't really see the point of the Stuff Packs if they're going to give us sets via the Sim Store. It's just another way to get money from us.

No, what I'm saying is that if they are going to use the Store to give us sets, why include more in a Stuff Pack?

What will probably happen is EA will release the SP an "Add a sleek, high-end, tech-inspired look to your Sims bedroom, living room, bathroom, office and den." Then they'll try to sell the REST of what was supposed to be in the SP in the store, for the same price as the SP was.

I feel a Sims 2 "Glamour Life" "Ikea Stuff" Mash up Flash back coming on...anyone else? When I was playing WA and saw the beautiful epic cloudy skies in China I thought, hmm looks like rain. But guess what? No rain, so before I get some swanky digs for my sims in High End Loft Stuff, maybe just maybe we should get some weather too. Or maybe I should be thankful they can rock out in the park with their electrical guitar before EA decides that when they finally do add weather, playing the electric guitar in the rain is a cool new way for my sim to die.

I think the aquarium their bringing back is the one from the sims 2 apartment life the very large one. Also this isn't going to be an expansion pack just a stuff pack. The 2nd ep is coming out in May or June and will soon be announced. More likely it will be a superstar, pets or seasons ep.

The second stuff pack is going to be a holiday stuff pack and will be coming out sometimes in the Fall of 2010.

Not quite. They've kept the same release schedule for ages, and I doubt they'd change it. They always release 2 EPs per year, one between February and April and the other between September and November. So this means EP #2 will be out probably sometime in March. And I highly doubt that they'd wait another year before releasing another stuff pack. With TS2, we'd sometimes get 2 stuff packs within just 2 or 3 months of each other, sometimes less. They're easier for EA to make, so they're able to release them much faster than the EPs.

Yeah, I saw that wiki source saying January 28th. I read on the other link on this thread not until May 2010 and I thought that seemed unrealistically far away. I'd originally heard February 2010, so the January 28th date seems most likely to me. :turtle:

That why I was confused at first...:/

I was like "Okay. Lofts. Suitcases, spider webs, and junk. There going to do an SP for this?"

But I prefered the loft name. It gave me hope for ladders and spiral stairs.

Some of the buildings in China are absolutely screaming for spiral stairs, and normal stairs have been unnaturally forced in there instead.

Even though I am English, I prefer the loft name. To me it conjures up images of swanky apartments in the Docklands.

But why no piano? *sniff* I miss it so!

Price seems pretty fair but I don't know if I'll be able to buy it... gotta spend my money on some other things first.
On the other hand, I checked the Swedish Sims 3 site and for us it will be titled "Luxury & Design". Sounds like the Swedish name for Glamour Life, which was "Glitter & Glamour", rather simple and generic but fine anyhow. It would be hard to translate something like High-end loft into Swedish and Hi-tech... would just be too awkward a name.
Anyway, I don't know what I should expect from this pack really, so I'll have to see what it contains before I considering buying it (or making my parents buy it). The title makes it sound interesting though, but the stuff on the cover does not impress me at all. :|

I will get it if it has new animations or interactions, or stuff from TS1 or TS2 I really miss- the one thing that will sell this SP for me is if they offer working musical instruments that aren't variations on the acoustic guitar (an electric guitar would be ok, a piano better) although not expecting to much on that front since most of the musical instruments for Sims 2 did not come out until University so I'd expect any new musical instruments to come in whatever the TS3 version EP/SP is that sends your Sim teens to college but not before then.

OMG. That thread over at "that" sight hurt my head! (ya know NOOB Central EA) Some poor lucky bastard got his hands on a copy early, and they are over there demanding numerous specific screen shots of clothes, images, chairs that they WANT to see. Not even please, thank you or if you have the time. Other than that the furniture looks pretty cool.

Also someone over there BOASTS about telling EAxis that there is a bug that when you register your SP, it glitches and gives you get 1000 Sim points on accident. He reported it!! Geesh, I'm so grateful I belong to this forum.

I "read" most of the thread, or as much as I could before my brain exploded, and i didn't say NO ONE thanked him, just suprised at how demanding and rude people were being to him, especially since he was posting pics to be nice to those who can't wait another 3 days.

If they are to expensive you could just not buy them, no one's making you. Or you could do what alot of other people do and wait until the price drops or get a second hand one from ebay or something. A bug that gives away free stuff would have been found by EA very quickly anyways, no use getting bent out of shape about it ;)

All I can say is 'Corporate, money grabbing b**t***s'.
And yes I do mean it. EA wants to milk as much money out of us as they can and they KNOW we'll buy it because serious sims fans will feel as if they're games are incomplete otherwise.
I want to see new innovations not an easy money generating knock out.

From what I've seen, you don't have to download the patch, the patch is already in the Stuff Pack, and the stuff pack itself upgrades the game to version 3.0 I think it is. So because of this, it will be the same had an EP come out or a new patch came out.

Whee mine is installing now. It did say it needed to 'update my game before installing', even though I had the latest patch. So it appears that it does indeed patch your game. I'll edit this if it breaks any if my hacks/mods (I use some of the more common ones).

EDIT: It does update the game, to 3.something. And, sadly, it breaks AM, among other mods. :'( Mine gets to the loading screen and stops - no loading bar ever appears. I expected it, but hey, didn't hurt to try.

-Supercomputer won't make your game stop working but it doesn't appear to work.
-None of my autonomy mods made the game stop working either. Can't tell just yet which ones are and are not working.
-The no fire mod doesn't cause the game not to load.
-"Anach"s mods from the AM site won't make the game not load.
-Faster gardening didn't make the game not load.

Looks like AM is the only one (I have) that will prevent you from playing for the time being, although I'm wary of running a non-working mod, even if the game loads. Anyway, hope this helps!

I forgot all about this. Pity it goes to a totally new patch out of nowhere, but that patch *will* be standard in the coming days whether you own the stuff pack or not, I suspect.

Is there a list anywhere of what it does? It'd be fun to know anyway.

Won't bother until some mods get updated, particularly awesomemod, but man, I want that fancy fire pit, the stereo, guitar, and aquarium.

CobaltCorvid
2nd Feb 2010, 06:58 PM
This will probably be obvious to anyone anyway, but -- if you pull AM out so you can run your game be sure you grab your slider hacks out too. I was puzzled by the fact that it crashed without AM/wouldn't load WITH AM/did fine with no mods folder at all until I remembered that part of AM is a slider hack.

ShortyBoo

I'm not going to install it until AM is updated. And even then, I'm making sure I back up all my files onto an external hard drive first, just in case something goes wrong. When I first installed WA, I tried patching through the launcher, and it messed up somehow and didn't patch the base game, so I ended up having to completely uninstall, install the base game, patch all the way, install WA and patch that all the way.

The pack added some really /fantastic/ looking objects, I'm very pleased! :) The clothes are kinda eh, but I didn't really buy it for the clothes, so. *shrug* And the hairs are nice too, even if one of the women's is meloncat hair.

(Also mentioning WoW reminded me that I have raid tonight. yeek :p)

Meloncat hair? You mean limecat?

Limecat hair on some women is really pretty...

The problem too is now I want to make an urban map for using this with, because I'm an absolute and total control freak and city planner type person and run 'themed' neighborhoods... so I guess CAW may keep me busy until AM is updated :p

If I can manage to make the base terrain look right to me....

So are you able to use CC like hairs, clothing etc with the SP?? What is the reccomendation for install??

CobaltCorvid
2nd Feb 2010, 09:46 PM
I may or may not mean limecat.

*cough*

I've never had the patience (or creativity) to finish an entire themed 'hood, heh! I usually just make little 'subzones' that kinda-sorta follow a theme. Like a street with modern houses, some beach-bum cabins on the shore, a few victorian ones near the back, etc.

I am using CC hair, patterns and skin/eye replacements. It's working just fine. The only 'problematic' CC I ran into was AM (and associated slidermods), and the fact that Supercomputer isn't working. :) Interesting note -- the display images for a lot of my CC hair now matches the EA hair. No idea /how/ EA did that but I'm happy for it, I hate mismatched thumbnails.

All my sim-store bought items are not only working, but now have a small icon to indicate that they are from the store (in the same way that objects added in WA have the little plumbob on an orange circle). :3 Good luck.

So you mean stuff with stupid icons on it is now just a head with hair?

That is a blessing and a hinderance in one. Blessing because it makes things more conformed, but a hinderance because it messes with making stuff for upload without accidentally using CC!

What they NEED to do is make it so it detects frickin custom content again, and gives it the asterisk.

Aye, exactly that. I agree about the asterisks though, even if I don't ever really upload anything. If I find an item that looks terrible in-game, I'd like to know if it's something I downloaded or not, so I can trash it if it is, haha.

YESPLZ. Also, I miss tooltip text that would tell me what the name of something is.

Gah I haate it. I've gotten around it by making all CC package and just yanking folders when building, but that only works of course then for when I want no CC at all. If I want to use a pattern or something, it's horrible, trying to remember whose it was and where I got it.

Mine didn't, but that was almost certainly because I relied on awesomemod's slider hacks to use them. If your extended sliders are based around another mod they might.

EDIT: Er... nevermind, thought those were jonha's at a glance. I have no idea if those work, sorry ;.;

Anyway, hope this helps!
it does.
Thank you :)

I'm worried about installing this as the last patch broke my game. Even on a clean install my game would completely crash to desktop whilst it was loading. Any ideas if this one will break my game too?

Also, when backing up, what files should I copy?

Pandora3co

I do not use .package files for CC content anymore.

Saying that, I've installed the stuff pack with the patch and all seems to be OK (Crosses fingers) All launcher installed content seems to be showing up. I haven't tried installing anything new yet, so not sure about that. Typicall won't install any new CC after a patch untill I'm sure my old CC is working.

New objects are really really nice. I feel this SP is probably equal to Glamor Life for TS2. Object are really cool. Expensive, very expensive for your simmies, but give very high stats. 10 energy for the bed, +++ for comfort for couch ect... . The CAS stuff is meh in my opinion. It's OK, but not spectacular. The female hair.. well you have limehead cat hair and another that is softer and longer and much better looking. The males get 3 styles that are short and normal looking.. like all of them and will use all of them alot. The clothes are OK, not great.

The new items are really the best part of this. I love the look of all of it. Lots of new electronics as well. I got my copy for $18 and felt it was worth it.

I mostly got the stuff pack hoping the aquarium would hold caught fish.

Actually, looking at the XML files for High End Loft Stuff, the max number of fish is set to 6, but the Range is 0+. Potentially you could have any positive number be the max.

Erin: I have all my mods and CC still in the Sims 3 mods/packages folder, and they're working fine there other than the individual items that aren't liking new patch. So I'd guess just keep installing mods/CC where you always have...

While the CC worked (clothes, hair, accessories, etc) in the WA folder, some script mods (supercomputer, story progression, etc) didn't. I ended up moving the cfg, dll, and mods folder to the High End Lofts folder. It appears they are all working now. I actually was unable to use CC after I patched and installed HELS. I decided to convert all simpacks to package files, compress and put them in the WA folder. The vasy majority of CC shows up now but not all. The icons for CC are gone in the thumbnails. So far so good. No lag yet.

Really? I still have about 200MB in the DCCache (store items only) and have no problems with any of them showing up or functioning.

Converting Sim3packs to packages and moving them to your CC folder will undo the CC icons the launcher adds to thumbnails. Keep thinking there is a way to add this to packages, but haven't figured it out yet or found a thread/post to explain how.

I just got HELS and whoever said that there is a bug that allows normal beds to vibrate and teleports the sim outside is wrong. It's probably a mod conflict they have.

I tested HELS with no mods except for awesomemod and there was no such bug.

I just installed HELS with no problem at all. Honestly, I'm quite shocked. I thought for sure I would spend the day fighting to get my CC working or something, but nope. I removed all my mods (except for NoIntro) when I installed. Everything seems to be working fine right now and all of my CC showed up.

Anyway, I'm sure a lot of people are curious as to what new objects you get with the new stuff pack, so I filled up a room with all the new objects I could find and took some screen shots. Hopefully this will help people who are on the fence as to if they want to buy the SP or not.

You are correct, it's not a bug, it's a mod conflict. Since the item in question is a bed, perhaps a bed tuning file is the culprit. The sim only wound up outside because beds are usually placed near a exterior wall.

I'm at 2.2 currently and I don't want to go through all those dbc thnigamabob just to see my store contents :( thanksWell, don't install this SP then. I've just installed it, skipped 1.8/2.3 patch, and my Riverview and store contents are gone. Package files work fine though. My Riverview saved games are nowhere to be seen, and when I tried to start a new game there's no Riverview. Not grayed out, it's just... gone. How does the electric guitar work? Is it similar to the acoustic guitar in Sims 3, where you can buy songs? Or is it like the Sims games of the past where they simply play random songs based on skill level?

the only problem i have noticed is that all my BUGS are gone....even using the "buydebug" cheat doesn't work....

It is not only the bugs that are gone. My game doesn't show all of the world animations anymore. I can't see the sailing boats anymore. They are there, though, because they leave a kind of wave, when they move. The balloon is gone, the birds and the butterflies, too. I can still hear the sounds of the birds, though. I updated my graphic card driver and windows xp, it didn' t help. I deinstalled The Sims and installed again. I tested, if the animations were there after every installation. They were still there after installing World Adventures. As soon as I added HELS they were gone, so it is definitely the stuff pack that is causing it.

Apparently, it very cleverly just overlays the default guitar with an effect that makes it sound electric.

So it works exactly the same, I think.

Okay I didn't buy HELS this weekend for the hair. I wanted the aquarium badly and I do like modern style deco for Sims. But at the top left of the package, there is a blonde boy and a brunette girl, probably teens, maybe young adults, dancing. They both have hair that doesn't look like anything I've seen in game with base game, WA or even some of my store content. I assumed this was HELS hair and I really liked it and I was looking forward to using it.

Well I went into Create A Sim and the pictured hair is not there for any age group. Instead, there is the infamous "lime cat" hair and some ridiculously long-banged shag hair for females. The boy's style was not there either. Just this wonky hair that my elementary school boy best friend had that made us all call him "egghead" and some weird slicked back deal and another that was cute but not memorable. For those of you who have the HELS box and can see what two styles I'm talking about, can you tell me if those styles are indeed in HELS (and just failed to show up in my game) or are they styles we've always had that just look new to me because they're so nicely colored on the box? Please and thank you!

Just got my case out to look, and I think you're right! I don't recall seeing either of those hairs in the game (including BG, WA and all store hair). The man's hair looks similar to one of the base game ones only longer, but the female's doesn't resemble any.

22nd Feb 2010, 04:47 PM
Oh gosh, I was hoping you all would post that I must need more eye surgery and that the hair was indeed somewhere amongst EA's offerings and I'd just overlooked it. Talk about deceptive advertising! If you see new hairstyles on a stuff pack that claims to have new hairs in it, wouldn't you assume the new hairstyles shown on the cover of the SP would in fact be the offerings IN the new stuffpack! Instead we are treated to some serious new levels of FUG! I'm still rebuilding my game and resettling my sims but at some point I'll try to get screenshots post of the ugly hairs that ARE in the game. The styles for the women wouldn't be so bad if TS3 hairs were capable of movement like TS2 hairs were, but as the case stands, they elevate the concept of "helmet hair" to a whole new level. :wtf:

This is a new low for EA.

On the bright side, I'm enjoying the furniture and finding more use for it than I thought I would, given that I'm currently playing a rather primitive looking world. The HELS furniture already comes in at least one default color that fits right in with that world. But really there doesn't feel like a whole lot is in the pack. I expected more light fixtures, for instance. It's okay though. I'm happy with the SP, just not the deceptive package! Maybe that hair was supposed to be in the SP and they ripped it out to sell in the store, eventually.

dream_operator23
22nd Feb 2010, 06:04 PM
I totally know what you are talking about, summersong. I too really liked the hairs on the cover and was disappointed that they weren't in the pack. I also totally agree that they probably were going to put them in the pack, but then took them out to put in the store instead. I bet hair sells the best in the store, so they will try to milk every dime they can out of hair. ^^

I didn't notice the hair before, it is pretty indeed. It's a pity they didn't include it in the game. I bought HELS a few weeks ago. I love the furniture. They are perfect for my modern homes. But why did they only make a single tile window? Why not a double tile one? It doesn't make sense. And I am very happy they included the aquarium again. I missed that.
