View Full Version : How to Divorce a Sim Who Has "Disappeared"?

Greetings,

For a little while now I've been making a film within The Sims 2. Two of the characters were married at the end of the story, but recently I realized I wasn't pleased with a few of the scenes I'd recorded earlier (before the marriage) and wanted to re-record them. I figured I'd just have the two Sims divorce so the wedding rings would no longer appear on the characters, and I could go from there.

Well, strangely when I started the game up today I noticed, much to my surprise, that the male counterpart has disappeared. The female Sim is still shown as married to him, she still has all of her memories and what-not, but he's not there. I can't even find him anywhere in the neighborhood or via the phone or cheat.
So I brought in a clone of him that I'd made as a safety measure (which, of course, isn't married), but realized that I couldn't get the female Sim to divorce without the original male Sim husband there...

So, in short, I was wondering if someone knew of some way that I could force a divorce function on the female Sim, without the original husband there? Or at least is there some way I can make her wedding ring invisible?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Here's what I would try in this situation:
- Backup your save game.
- Use SimPE to edit the Sim Description for your sim.
- On the Relations tab in the Plugin View, select the other sim.
- Uncheck all of the appropriate boxes:
Crush, Love, Steady, Engaged, Married, Family
- Commit and Save.

If you can find the Sim Description for the other sim, repeat the process.

Then, run the game and see whether your problem is solved. If not, restore from backup.

Sorry for the late reply... Hectic weekend.
Anyway, I'll give this a shot, but which folder do I create a back-up of? The "Saved Sims" folder?

'Course, I have no idea how to open said Sim anyway, or where to locate them in the folders... I've never really used SimPE.

Since you've never used SimPE before, I'll try to get you a few screenshots later today.

Does anyone here have a suggestion for an in-game solution to this problem?

Thank you. Any help would be appreciated. :)

I'd even be happy with a mod to make wedding rings invisible... Not entirely what I'm looking for as I'd like to "remove" the marriage completely so the romantic interactions would work fully with the Sim clone, but at least the ring wouldn't appear anymore. And I could always take the mod out when I'm done recording.
Unfortunately, while I've found a wealth of wedding ring mods, none have made them invisible...

You can use some kind of summoning/selector hack and see if the Sim shows up. I use Insim, but I'm sure it's not the only one.

I'm not sure what kind of hack that would be... I did try the Tombstone of L&D (or whatever that object is called) and I didn't have any luck with finding the Sim. The name did appear on the list to add a neighbor to the family, but it was the cloned Sim, not the original.

Edit:
I just found the Sim Blender (http://www.simbology.com/smf/index.php?topic=20.0)... Maybe that'll work. It's worth a shot, anyway...
