View Full Version : Question...

I'm wondering... Would it be possible to make a semi-transparent reflective mirror to go on the floor? Isn't this the idea that was used in the reflective floor for the Sims 2? I wanted to try doing this on my own, based on how JRW (http://modthesims.info/member.php?u=293392) made his Reflective Windows (http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=406655). However, custom content creation is something I'm very new to, and I have no idea what to even look for to find out how these windows were created.
So, any idea's or suggestions?

It's easy enough to put a mirrored surface on an object using Notepad and editing the mtlsrc for the material slider.
The issue with that reflective window cover is that it really isn't a cover...it is actually inside the window and that's what makes it have a less reflective appearance than a standard mirror.
Take it out from inside the glass of the window and it's the same mirror surface that any other Sims 3 mirror has. It looks like it's essentially the full length single tile EA mirror with the base and shadow shrunken to a single pixel and then set back a touch to fit inside the glass of the window.
You could make floor tiling of mirror but to get the same cloudy mirror effect you would have to cover it with a second tile of glass. Or you could take a two material object and make it have both glass and mirror. That should be do-able but I don't know how it would look in-game...and, of course, because of the mirror being there you wouldn't see the flooring texture through it.
