View Full Version : How do I get rid of explorer Sims? [SOLVED - I hope]

This is somehow urgent as I am currently experiencing this and I think it messes up my whole game:
My Sim took an Egyptian home with her and now they are gf/bf. The problem is that this very Egyptian is also among the explorer Sims in China. At first I thought that this was handy as the original Egyptian was still at home and my Sim travelled alone and she could nevertheless have an occasional woohoo with the explorer.
But now, when I take my Sim together with her bf to China the original Egyptian is there AND the exploring doppelganger. And this is quite awkward.
I could kill the doppelganger, using twallans MasterController, or with awesomemod's "nukeimpostors" command, which will delete ALL explorers, however.
I also know that it is never a good idea to kidnap foreigners and take them home but I have never had any problems with that so far.
What is worse is that I think that this intercultural love affair now messes with other vacation destinations, too, as I am currently trying to send the two to France but I cannot trade with the special merchant anymore (his pink icon shows but the interaction menu does not appear and there is no "special merchant" behind his name), and in three attempts of loading France either one or two local dealers were stuck in their homes and could not service the cashiers unless I reset them. Resetting the special merchant, however, does not help in having him as a merchant again.
So I want to ask whether there is any chance that I can fix these issues.

EDIT: OK, so at least the special merchant thing seems to fix itself after spending one night in the foreign location and appears to be unrelated to my other issue. But I still wonder what would be the best way to then get rid of this doppelganger.

I guess I would try killing this doppelganger sim with the Master Controller. Just save your game before doing this, so you can quit and go back to your save if something goes wrong. I don't know if this makes any difference, but: I would do this with the real sim at home, so the partner goes there alone, uses the MC on the explorer. If you go back home and your real sim is messed or gone, then try it again with both sims on vacation.

Thank you, Six_By_Nine, but I already have awesomemod and this occurred with AM installed. So AM doesn't prevent this from happening or fixes it by itself.

Yes, I guess I will have to try all this, thank you very much for your suggestions.
So far, I have tried the following:
1. Went to China alone and used resetsim on the explorer. The explorer disappears from the base camp and is replaced by a new and different explorer but is still in the relationship panel as being present in the world. I can still call him but he cannot be found visibly unless invited.
2. Went to China alone and used MC's "Total Annihilation" on the explorer. Explorer is gone completely and replaced by a new and different one. The doppelganger is also erased from the relationship panel and cannot be called again. He also is not listed as being in another world and cannot be called using the long distance call option, either. When returning home, the original Sim is still there, however. Hard to tell whether he is messed up now as, unfortuneately, these things do not always show instantly.
3. Went to China as a couple. Used AM's "nukeimpostors". All explorers are deleted including the doppelganger. Now I will have to see whether they will be gone for good or whether new ones will appear after a while.

As soon as I've tried all other options I will report back. In the meantime I hope that someone who has had this before will find this thread.

EDIT: Ok, I guess I solved it. After several different approaches the only way to get rid of the doppelganger explorer without causing major trouble was the following: I sent the afflicted Sim to China - alone. As soon as he arrived I used the "kickalltourists" cheat of AwesomeMod. This will send all tourists and explorers home, instead of deleting them. They will be replaced by new explorers after a while but luckily this hasn't brought back my doppelganger. I sent my Sim home again and then returned him to China together with his wife. No problems so far.
All other methods like killing the double using the MasterController or sending both Sims or the partner and then use "kickalltourists" resulted in massive glitches like damaged family trees or similar desasters. Gosh, what a mess, but thanks to AwesomeMod things seem to be back to normal again. If I really were into sheep I'd now click Pescado's Thank You button the whole day through.
