I've heard people talking about boarding school, but I haven't "seen" one or had prompts in-game about it, so how does it work? How do you send your kids there?

You use the computer or phone. There should be an option to send to boarding school. Select the school and select child and then they will go to boarding school.

I have tried the boarding school and they are all right although they are not like real boarding schools, there is no weekend visits, the sim makes no friends at the boarding school. There is no romance at boarding school, there is only the occasional message asking what to do and they are quite boring as well. Overall there a nice feature although they need to be modded to be improved.

Have you watch Zoey 101 or something it will show u basically what they do in a boarding school. they probably live in dorms or apartments and does have rules. They become independent, buy their meals there and stuff on their own. you can view more girls boarding school (http://www.teen-boarding-school.com/) information in this forum.

Thanks guys, I'm going to try it out tonight with my legacy family. I'm playing with Matriarch rules, and I only have one female hair and she's turned out really well, but the male (who cannot be the heir) has got completely negative traits, so I'll send them off to military boarding school for a bit of character building!

While it is true that they don't socialize much, they do improve skills for when they get out of school. That saves time for the player which I like actually. One daughter in my legacy family has 5 kids (triplets & twins) and trying to skill them up thru normal game play would be tedious. They do come home for prom, usually a couple days before hand giving you time to work on their relationships with family and friends.
I don't send kids away unless there is a large brood of them. If there's just one or two in the family I'll keep them home.
If the schools played more like University where you could still interact with them it would be better. Having them greyed out and unplayable while they are gone kinda sucks.

I've had a bunch of issues with the boarding schools.
I've sent two teens from the same household. The car that would be taking them took an eternity to arrive, many simdays later than what the game said.
When the older teen became an adult and came home, for some reason the younger teen came too. His occupation tab still listed the boarding school, but there was no option to send him back. After a few days, the game said there were no appropriate schools in the neighbourhood to send him to. At that point the option to send him to the boarding school appeared again on the computers. Several days later, the car that's supposed to pick him up is still missing.

I think there's no military schools in the Sims 2. If teenagers don't go to school the social worker comes and takes them or their grade goes down and they get fired if they have a part time job. But in Sims if teenagers don't go to school he/she would have to go to these places.
