Sorry to bug you guys about this, but I needed a quick and clear answer. About two weeks ago, the power adaptor to my laptop (HP Compact Presario notebook, CQ60 series) broke, I was just able to get a new one today (it's an HP Smart Adaptor, and I checked, and yes, it is compatible with my computer). The battery is still the original one which came with the computer when I first bought it. The adaptor works fine, but the battery won't charge (even though it did so perfectly well on the original adaptor), when I mouse over the icon, it says "plugged in, not charging." Does anyone know how to get it to charge? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I can't seem to find a clear answer, and I'm ready to pull my hair out!

Urm, I don't have a HP laptop so I - http://www.google.com/search?q=plugged+in%2C+not+charging&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

The first 2 results seem to have the same solution that work for most, ie the disabling and reinstalling the battery ACPI thing.
There's also a thread on HP forums a bit further down, with a tip to clean the battery adaptor socket thingie with paper...that one I never tried on any laptop...so would be interesting to get confirmation if it worked. :)

Thank you so much for your reply. I think that it might actually be the battery though, but I found a cheap one on Amazon to replace it (I have had the same battery for 2+ years now, and apparently they're only supposed to be good for one...I guess that it draining after the first adapter broke was what finally killed it :( ).
Still, I might not have found the problem without your post, and I'll re-try all the steps if it turns out it's actually not the battery (it has been a really long time since I last checked it before this happened). Thanks again.

I'm not sure replacing the battery would help if it is caused by the ACPI setting thing in the OS. As I recall, some of the posters in those search results have already done exactly that.
But doesn't hurt to have a spare battery, too. ;)
