It does not seem to be functioning as expected. It showed I had the latest version of Treeag's Hidden Traits mod, and Buzzler's Mood Fix mod, but upon inspection both had been updated to 1.26, and I did not have those versions.

Hrm, it depends on when you downloaded the item. I guess you downloaded it prior to the update?

Coltraz, are you misunderstanding the "Have Update" column? It does not mean that you have updated the item on your system. That would mean MTS knows the location on your harddrive and where to check whatever you have downloaded, to see if you have the latest version. Which is not its intent. And eww! I don't visit that other site because they do precisely this! :heyhey:

The column just means that the uploader has edited their post and/or uploaded a new version of the item. Not whether you have the updated version or not. :)

Sorry, if I misunderstood, though. Both the question, coltraz and if that is indeed its purpose, Delphy.

No, I know it doesn't know what's on my system. The posts had been updated to indicate they were new-patch ready, but I would not have known if I hadn't checked, because the column said I had the latest version. And yes, I downloaded them prior to the update.

That is strange - so I went and had a look at those two mods - it seems that BOTH of those mods have multiple files - and in both cases only ONE file had been updated - the main mod file I guess, with the other file being tuning options. Is it possible that the my downloads check for update function "looked" at the second file and not the first and so "saw" no difference?

ella: The "Have Update" checkbox checks to see if you downloaded a file from a thread *after* the last time a file was uploaded to said thread. In other words, it's meant to help people see if the thread creator has updated any files after you downloaded, and to to encourage people to get the latest version.

it does this through a combination of the trackdata table (which stores when you downloaded something) and the thread table (which stores when any *single* file was updated in the first post). Btw, it *doesn't* count if they edit a post and don't upload a file - only when they use attachments. Specifically, when an attachment is uploaded.

However, becuase there is only *one* file update time recorded on a thread, it's entirely possible for the creator to change a file that isn't the same as the one you downloaded, and then the screen says that you need an update.

This, however, doesn't explain why it was saying you already had the latest version when, in fact, you didn't.

I'd have to check the debugging to see when it thinks the thread last had a fileupdate.

In case anyone suspects I may be full of shite, here is an actual example:

I was subscribed to the thread, so I just happened to see armiel's post saying she updated the file. But as you can see, this goes unregistered in my "Have Update?" column. Not trying to beat a dead horse - this doesn't even really bother me that much. Just, you know, thought the higher-ups ought to be aware...pics or it didn't happen? :deal:

Well, no, we didn't suspect you were full of shit - but thank you for the picture :)

I don't see what is wrong in the picture. You downloaded on 3rd, the update was 4th, and it's ticked that there is an update in the updates column.

Inge, the tick indicates I have the latest version - Have update? Yes! *Check!* It doesn't mean an update is available.

Oh, I wouldn't have interpreted it that way. I thought it meant "has update".

It does appear that "green tick" means no update, and "red circle" means update needed. So I would guess, based on all my recent downloads but one having a green tick, and the one with the red says it got updated in the thread title.
