View Full Version : EIG - problems with lots, opening custom worlds

I'm having two issues.

Firstly, if I create a world from scratch, I cannot open it in EIG. TS3 will load up fine, but just before the world loads I get an error message saying that a serious error has occurred while loading this world, please restart the application.

On the other hand, I can open the premade worlds (sunset valley lite and riverview lite) in EIG just fine.

But even with these worlds, the lots are screwy. I'll open up sunset valley lite in CAW, place a lot, then go to EIG. The lot shows up as a blue square, but I cannot build/buy on it, and it doesn't show the lot icon in edit town mode.

Any ideas? It's really frustrating.

I'm using CAW version 1.11.12. Have all EPs except for Pets, all EPs patched, base game patched to 1.24.3. No CC or mods.

BTW, I tired reinstalling CAW. Still get the same two issues.

Also I just tried exporting a world I made. The export worked fine. When I tired installing it via the launcher it gave an error message saying "this world requires a software update, please update TS3" or some such. Would this have something to do with the CAW version mismatch? I did have trouble with this, and used the fix found here (editing default.ini).

*edit* Ok, I just did a test and tried to install riverview via the launcher. I got the same error. So I thought it must be a general issue with the launcher and not CAW related. But then I downloaded a non-EA world and it installed fine. It doesn't make sense because riverview is so old, can't see why my fully patched game would have any problems installing this particular world.

Any advice would be much appreciated. I am getting close to giving up on TS3 altogether. It seems every component from the launcher, to CAW to the game itself is riddled with issues. I fix one problem only to have have another one crop up. :|
Sorry to rant, but I've spent way more time fiddling around with TS3 than actually playing it, and it's irritating.

Test this- drag documents\ Electronic Arts to the desktop.

Then open CAW, make a test world, go into EIG and build a lot. Can you save and export that world okay? Can you use Launcher to install that world okay?

I moved the EA folder and made a fresh test world. It exports fine, but I still cannot edit it in game, and the launcher will not install it. It's giving me the same errors as before.

Since I was able to use edit in game mode with sunset valley lite, I thought maybe the launcher would install it too. I exported it, and the launcher installed it with no problems, the world appears to work fine in the game. Still have the issue with the buggy lots in EIG mode though.

It just seems strange that the pre-made world files install fine, but not the freshly made test worlds.

Also, I managed to install riverview. I worked out that I had a corrupted download. Re downloaded it and it installed fine. So my launcher is apparently ok, this seems to be solely a CAW issue.

This definitely sounds like a version mismatch, as of course the Lite versions were made with an old gameversion.

Check your SKU versions again and post them here, so that we can double check. Post the SKU version of your CAW too.

Is there any reason why you're not fully patched? The latest version of CAW works fine without pets, as long as you patch to 1.26.

Yeah, it strikes me as being related to a version mismatch too. But then, I was careful to use the chart on this thread (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=457349), and it appears my versions are matched.

CAW version - 1.11.12

Basegame - 1.24.3
WA - 2.17.2
Amb - 4.10.1
LN - 6.5.1.
Gen - 8.0.152

I wasn't planning on patching to 1.26 just yet, as my game is currently running well after lots of fiddling around and I was also waiting for 1.26 Awesomemod to come out of beta. Though with this CAW issue I might have to patch now anyway. Another reason why I wanted to stick with 1.11.12 is that I read that the latest CAW version is a lot worse for people with lower specs. Do you happen to know anything about this? If I upgrade CAW, I may just be swapping a broken CAW for a crashtastic CAW.

Do your default.ini files all match?

Okay, something else you could try is to launch EIG without CAW:

Yes, having the latest patch and the latest version of CAW significantly increases the game resources, so perhaps that's not the solution for you. :(

Just to check- you don't have any mods in when you're testing this? And, you don't have any mods left in the 'old' framework location?
