View Full Version : Game update causing game to crash?

I recently bought a new computer and my games kept crashing so i had to uninstall all the games and start over. I have downloaded my games through origin download manager. So far i have only downloaded the base game (The Sims 3) no expansions yet. My game wants to update to 1.33, the newest patch which was released last month. Is this possibly whats causing my game to crash, because its installing to the newest patch and not the patch between the sims 3 and the sims 3 world adventures? On this site, it says you need to install 1.29, then 1.31, then 1.33 or the game will have issues.

However, when i called Origin customer support they said that 1.33 should work fine that you dont need any of the later versions to work. But i have a feeling that 1.33 is causing my game to crash since its the newest patch. Can anyone help me!

Yes, it says sims 3 has stopped working, windows is looking for a solution to solve the problem.

So, to confirm - you've not uninstalled to reinstall and patch according to the Wiki's suggestions? And this is still a vanilla, cc-free game?

There's been a couple other reports that have APU systems show up here. And they have had crashes too. Essentially due to the Integrated graphics, maybe. Game Help:Onboard Graphics
You could try to install Catalyst 12.3 to update the drivers on that graphics, as you have currently Catalyst 11.9. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx
But I'm not 100% sure if the installer would work on an OEM laptop. HP has not posted any updates to this, other than sharing the link to the original driver the retail PC comes with, which you already have.

The DxDiag also reports that there's no sound. I believe the specs for this on HP site (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03135882&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5192660#N589) states there's integrated sound. Do you have sound when loading Sims (before it crashed) and when playing movies, music?
If you have newly purchased this PC, then I suggest to call up HP for Tech Support. Let them earn their fee. :)
