View Full Version : My Female Sim - Feedback Needed!

Hi Simmers!

I was about to try to post my sim, but I read that apparently they are very strict here about having the face be unique. I'm new at the whole uploading thing, but I've been creating stuff for about 2 years now....So I've come here for feedback. :)

So I guess I should explain out my sim and its purpose and the challenges I endured to create it. This sim was my attempt at a "cute" girl, using only base game content, with no sliders, custom content, and certainly no expansion pack content. Not even EP traits :P And to say so myself, I think I've done a good job. I've created Delila Moreinson, a girl who was born into money and has her life planned out ahead of her, but just needs that perfect guy to share her blessed life with.

Here she is, my lovelyful (hehe) sim! :anime:

Please let me know how I can improve her,

and please know that I am open to harsh criticism and I will NOT take it personally!

Thanks so much, to all the members on this site, and the site itself because its so wonderful! I love it!

You are not supposed to add any download links in the CFF boards. Not for sims. That's only if you need beta testers for a world etc.
Also you'll need some straight forward shots of her face were she doesn't make any faces. Before this it's almost impossible to give any useful feedback :)
And please make some bigger pictures for us. It's hard to see much now.

Okay! Sorry, I'm still new to this... I didn't know whether or not to attach it, so I decided to be safe and attach it... And if it makes it easier for you to give feedback with neutral pictures, I can certainly do that. Sorry about the picture size, I found it really difficult to upload pictures within the given range for uploading... When you take a snapshot in the game, it comes out as a huge picture, and I know you can adjust that, but I prefer the quality.... so I just opened the pictures with a photo viewer, zoomed out to a little less than 50%, then took a snip of it using the snipping tool. I found that this was an easy and quick way to resize the pictures, but if you have any other suggestions that would give a more accurate size, I'm all ears!

Thanks so much for attempting to give feedback, and informing me of what I did wrong! :)

Hey:)
You seem like such a peach :anime:

In order to properly to help you, you need to have bigger pictures and increase your 'sim detail' graphic settings when taking pictures of your sim.

I like her face shape but she needs something more. her eyes, eyebrows nose and lips seem very maxis, partly due their roundness.
this -tutorial can surely help->http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=450276

Really good start!

*edit* here is a tutorial to post pictures and resize them if you like--->http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=337371
by default these forum post resize the pictures for you.

Haha, why yes, I AM a peach!

Thank you! I'm starting up The Sims right now to take some better pictures. And that tutorial looks great! I just skimmed over it, but I'll read it more densely a little later today. I'm getting excited about this! Maybe with you guys' help, I'll finally get one of my uploads accepted! :D

Okay, so I've changed Sim Detail to Very High, tweaked Delila's brows, eyes, nose, and mouth, put in a neutral background, then finally went into cameraman mode and taken the best head-on shot of my ability. I took from a couple different angles, with no poses, I assume that will be helpful when giving critique. :)

I like it! But her jaw seems a bit too wide compared to the thickness of her neck and the rest of her body. Maybe make the jaw slightly narrower, and the neck slightly wider, to balance it a bit? :)

Okay, right now I'm doing a sim and is in the cf also :) And i had many comments on how i should have straight forward pictures. Like, really close(Not to close obviously) Pictures.
Btw, If you don't know how to do that just push tab and it takes you into camera mode :)
Here are the controls:
A, W,D,S, - move camera around
Q, E - move up and down
Z,X - zoom in and out
Also, you can zoom in and adjust the angle using your mouse
~Hope these are helpful. :D Plus, i agree with Virvatuli about the whole jaw deal

Hey! It's cool that you're also doing a sim! Did you get it uploaded?

And also, I actually was doing cameraman mode in the two most recent pictures. Is it still off center? Okay, I'll try again I guess. And I'll fix her jaw, if that's what you guys think I should do... But the only thing I'm worried about, is that her strong jaw is part of her image, and what makes her unique. Do you think maybe she'll be too plain and ordinary if I narrow it down? I don't know, maybe not. I'll narrow it then post new pictures, and you guys can help me decide which looks better :)

I think the uniqueness should come more from her whole face then just the jaw , just narrow it a little bit. If you want her have the uniqueness come from the jaw then do that, just take a down a little bit cause it looks a little to over powering right now. :) And about my sim, Actually haven't uploaded her but if you would like to take a look, Here is the link -> http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=473805
And the camera is just a tad off center. When im in Cameraman mode, I just pause my game as my sim is just standing there, Then i zoom in as close as i can BEFORE i get into Camera mode, Then i hit tab and get a straightly and closely to her face as possible then take the picture. If you need a ref. just look through my sim pictures(Not the first ones, never take CAS pictures!!!)

Ohhhhh... You meant straight on the one where it was only a head? Yeah, I had meant for that one to be tilted at a slight angle to reveal some of the less obvious features. But in the one that goes down to her waist, I'm pretty sure that's straight enough... isn't it?

I'll have the narrowed down jaw picure up in a bit.

suggestions:
- lower her brow height
-lower her jaw width, then lower her jaw shape the tiniest bit, to make it less square, the readjust accordingly with the jaw width
-darken her eye color
make her mouth wider

:mod: But whatever you do please keep her cheekbone height and shape , they are beautiful
In general you need to fiddle more with the all sliders, especially the mouth .

I hope this helps :)
PS---> this sim creating tutorial may help with the whole process--->http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=432920

Thanks, so much! Yes, I figured that the mouth had some work to do. On my first "prototype" of her, before I even posted on this forum, the bottom lip went almost down to her chin! Haha, yes, its true.
Tommorow, I'm certainly going to have my work cut out for me!

Okay... I took all of your advice! Along the way, I decided that the more I looked at her, the less I liked her eyes. So I really changed up the eye shape.... I also darkened her skin color a tad, and changed her top and the color of her pants. See it for yourself :)

Those are some good pictures you took :) But all i have to say is that her bottom lip looks a little odd on how thin her top lip is. Personally i would make them even sized but i have to admit it makes her look unique :P

:) Thanks!! Yes, I am having quite a predicament about those annoying lips. It's so hard to get them perfect... I think right now they don't look too bad, but pretty soon I'm going to get bored of them and change them, I just know it! Lol!

By the way, I checked out your sim. She's REALLY good!!!! You're an awesome sim maker!! I hope you get her uploaded sometime soon!!

Your coming along nicely:)
suggestions:
-your pictures are too zoomed in close up, its not flattering. your pictures are also too dark, you better lighting(use the lighting you have in your fourth picture ! that's good lighting) I don't think the huge smile is a neutral face. try using a neutral pose if you have to. or use neutral animations.
- her mouth looks like she has a "perma- duck face" thing going on  try lowering the mouth height by alot and readjust the mouth curve
- her head is too big try adjust it using head width.
-I like her nose and eyes. its the mouth that throwing of the balance and harmony.
- rotate the eyes down slightly to level them instead of them pointing up. then re-adjusting the outer eye corner height
-lower her eye socket height a tad
- I love faces shape
-
Lets try all that for now, and see what what results:bunny:

I think you guys are confusing what the word unique means defined by in mts standards,.you shouldn't give a sim a feature for weirdness sake. It has all fit together with a overall facial sculpt and look of the sim;it has to have harmony.A tip is "Make at least one unique, stand-out feature, and then adjust all the others to compliment it. A strange nose, interesting lips, or tilted eyes look much more impactful if the whole face has unique but not over-unique features"
I really think the tutorial I linked you above will really help, especially if you skimmed it once over, i can guarantee you will find something that would be useful..

Could you give us a profile pic? I'm not sure but I think there's something off with that lower lip. Maybe it protrudes a bit too much or the whole jaw does that because you can see those white patches between her lips and it doesn't look nice. Otherwise, your sim is coming along very well. :)

FREEDOM_55
19th Apr 2012, 4:28 PM
Wow what a difference! :gjob:
Suggestions:
- her brows, face shape/facial structure, nose are perfect.
- you need top still slightly lower her eye socket height
- her sleek eyes would look better if she had smaller pupils, but since your going completely cc less. You need to widen her eyes moving the eye shape slider more right or widen her lower eyelids using the lower eyelid height slider and use that other one *forgot name* underneath it
- her mouth: is still very off. its thinner and wider so looks somewhat better. but her bottom lip protrudes too much and is not balanced with her top lip. I'm pretty sure with the at least update there is slider to adjust the protruding lip in the mouth category or just bring in her lower jaw more.her top loip needs to be wider
- lower eyelash height
- and her cheekbones are still gorgeous :lovestruc:

RedCherries

Her jaw really sticks out, and the mouth is abnormally stretched. It looks quite strange. Push that back and decrease the mouth depth and she'll look a lot better. :}

Okay... I think the mouth situation is getting better, but I'll let you guys be the judge of that. I also have included a profile shot, as requested :)

Better, much better. But there's still something about the mouth... I'm not sure... maybe the upper lip could be just a tiny bit fuller. And the jaw... maybe you you want to keep it's lines that sharp (Conan O'Brien style) but perhaps it could be just very slightly rounder or wider. It's a matter of taste, I guess, so no need to change if you like it like that.

The profile looks pretty good, though, and the cheekbones are beautiful. :)

19th Apr 2012, 10:55 PM
Thanks! I'll keep on fiddling with the mouth, and I'll see where that gets me... I'm still not completely satisfied with them.... maybe someone will come along with a magic solution! hehe

And yes, I've always taken pride in my sims cheekbones :) LOL, thank you :)

Any more suggestions? Or should I and try to upload her? O_o

ameenah.n.y
20th Apr 2012, 8:27 PM
I think it's best not to rush to upload- everyone logs in to the forum at different times of the day/week - so feedback can be instantaneous and sometimes it comes a bit later. Make sure you're completely comfortable and happy with your creation before you upload it. After you've finished the facial sculpt, then you can go on further to focus on details like the hair and clothing. Fleshing out a sim's bio and personality is also a great way to add more depth to your creation.

I still think the screen shots you are taking are a bit too dark, especially the profile. If I turn the camera to photograph my sim from the side - I might rotate the sim as well as re-position the lights. Don't be afraid to throw some more lights in there, and make sure that the light is directed at the sim's face and not away form it. Right now it almost looks like the light source is coming from below her - like she's holding a flash light underneath her face. You want even lighting that shows her features off.

Jaylo
20th Apr 2012, 8:41 PM
On the lighting subject, something I have recently started doing is putting bedstands around the sim and then putting table lights on those bedstands. The light hits the sim right in the face and makes the whole thing very bright :)

There's still something wonky about the mouth. Try playing with the lip shapes, lip width, mouth height, and mouth width. She's getting there, but I would wait a bit to upload her.

Could you also remove the eyeshadow (and eyeliner), as well. I'm not sure if the eyes are bit too large or if it's just the makeup making it appear so. I just keep going back to the symmetry between the upper half or her face and the lower half of her face (cheekbones being the line). Maybe her jawline is a bit too sharp/narrow.

Edit: Okay sorry for the delay, but so I took the advice about the nightstands and light (wow good advice :o) and took off her eye makeup and also made her mouth a little wider. Here are da pics :D also halfway along pic-taking i noticed the pretty moon and took some pics of it. For anyone who wants to see I attached two pictures!! Gosh I really hope I don't get a warning or whatever for being off-topic because it IS on topic sort of its on the topic of picture taking and you gotta admit, that's one pretty moon : )

EDIT... AGAIN:
Okay guys so I decided I wanted to change her hair, and I as was looking through the catalog thing, I thought of a new approach I could try with her. I may be mistaken, but I haven't seen any sims with cancer on here.

Sooo, I could give her no hair as a tribute to people with cancer. I'll attach a picture of it, along with a few very minor edits to her face that probably aren't noticeable. Let me know if you guys think this is a good idea :)

from ya friend called piggy

mrcfreak54
24th Apr 2012, 4:11 PM
I gotta say piggy the no hair thing isn't to bad :) But I have had a few friends and teachers and family whom had cancer and they aren't Completely Bald , I have this one friend and she had cancer and she has short, shaggy hair that she keeps in a really tiny ponytail. So maybe, Unless you like it bald, Change her baldness to a more really short hairstyle? But this is only a suggestion :)

malfoya
24th Apr 2012, 5:03 PM
You still haven't removed the download link? It's not supposed to be added in the feedback area. And I agree with those who has said you shouldn't rush anything. People seemed to be so eagered at uploading at times that they end up with something that looks about half done. I deleted something I uploaded myself once because I never felt like it was really done.

I like the idea of a bald sim, but there's really no point in her having cancer as the sim will be healthy anyway. I think it looks more like a tribute to baldness. Of course you can give her a side story with her having cancer earlier or something, but at that point her hair might have grown back a little.

varpunen

Much better without the heavy eyeshadow/liner. Makes the eyes look better, too. I suggest you to try something more subtle shadow/eyeliner. :)

If she really had cancer, you would need to remove the eyebrows, too.

piggypeach
24th Apr 2012, 8:29 PM
mrcfreak54 - Thanks!! Yeah, nothing is set in stone, I'll probably go back and change it. I also know some people with cancer (grandpa, aunt) and you have a good point.
malfoya - okay sorry, I knew that I wasn't supposed to upload it, but I thought there is really no harm in just leaving it up there, but if you say that I should take it off, then okay I will...
varpunen - Thank you!! My original plan was to go completely CC-free, but I am already changing my plan soo much that I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to add some CC. I'll definitely try it out next chance I get. :)
ShineShine - Sorry, I didn't really make it completely clear - she's not meant to actually have cancer, she is just a symbol/tribute to people who have it. The eyebrows really contribute to her face and compliment her eyes so I don't think I can really afford to take them away, but that was really smart that you thought of that so thanks :)

mrcfreak54
24th Apr 2012, 10:14 PM
Oh, I just want to point one thing out really quick; ShineShine, Not ever one with cancer looses eyebrow hair ^^ One of my older teachers lost her hair to Breast Cancer and She still has her Eyebrows ._. But maybe it depends on what type of cancer you have...?
