How can I retrieve the remains of a Sim that died alone?

I've built retirement home apartments for my elder Sims, but some are going to die after their spouse. I know that if they died in a house, I could move a new family in to send the remains to my graveyard, but when I tried testing that in an apartment, the urn was gone. Is there a way I can get their gravestone, or will I have to choose between the apartments and the cemetery?

I've done that before. If you don't mind keeping tabs on eight (or more) elders. Just have a huge garden for them to work in, maybe some pets or something. And some games.
