Hi everyone. So I’ll be upfront. I new to fairly new to The Sims and new to the Mac as well...
Ok, if you’re still reading after that then here’s my problem.
There is a Sherlock and John sim (they are characters from a TV show) that I downloaded. The Sherlock sim installed fine and showed up in game, however the John sim did not. When I installed this message appeared:
“This item had dependencies on EP or SP content that seems to be missing. The missing EP or SP content will be replaced with proxies.”
Which is fine, I’ve come to understand that that just means that things that you don’t have in game will be replaced with something else.
However, when I load the game the John sim does not appear and when I go back to the Launcher screen it’s like I never installed it. Others things that have that message don’t work either but things that I’ve installed that do not have that message work fine and show up in game.
Is there anything I can do to make the John sim show up?
Thank you in advance! I hope this is the correct spot to post this. I’ve been reading guides and posts all day!!
I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8
The Sims3
Master Suite
High-End Loft.

Do these Sims you downloaded come in Sims3Pack or .sim formats? Have you check with the creator's item thread(s) to see if others are also reporting this issue?
I'm afraid we can't help support each individual download item out there, you have to check with the creator if these Sims would work even if you don't have the required addons.
Having said that, if they are in Sims3Packs, you could try a workaround of extracting the .sim file (using Delphy's MultiExtractor with Mono; see sticky for HowTo guides on using PC programs on the Mac) and placing it in the SavedSims folder manually. These guides might help:
- Game Help:Installing TS3 Sims
- Game Help:Sim Files Not Appearing
ps: You are in the correct spot, Thank you! And welcome to MTS! Hope you enjoy it here. :bunny:

Hi, thank you for responding to my question! Sorry for the late-ish reply, I was on my Sims trying to see if I could fix the problem doing what the links told me.
On the original post where I got the sims I saw no report of errors, but I can't ask the creator for help because they only speak Russian (I was using google translate to view the page). They came in Sims3Pack by the way. The person who found the links was from this website but the post was from 2011 and they weren't the original creator (I got it in the WCIF forum).
I downloaded Mono and Delphy's MultiExtractor but I couldn’t figure out how to run the Extractor using Mono. I'm reading through this sticky: TS2/TS3 Tools and Utilities: Solutions for OS X users. I assume that's the one you were referring to?
While messing around with the game one my Sims turned black (not her natural skin color black) for some reason so I think I might stop messing with it for now. :faceslap: I got her back to her regular color and hopefully she won't change again.
I’m gonna look up that Mono program some more and see if I can figure it out. I just wanted to post this before too many days went by so that you know your help was appreciated and maybe I'll figure it out soon! Thanks!!! (Sorry for the long post! :) )

I've had this occasionally, too, that Sims and lots that I installed as sims3packs via the Launcher would not stay installed. They install fine at first, but when I launch the game they're not in there. Going back to the Launcher then tells me that they are actually not installed anymore :|. Now the interesting thing is that at least twice this happened with my own things, too, especially Sims I created and exported as sims3pack I could not re-install after a fresh install of the game.
My assumption is that this is due to broken references to custom content that comes with the Sim or lot, and this includes items from the Store, unfortunately. Maybe it is because I had emptied the DCBackup or maybe because re-installing Store stuff does not generate references identical to previous installs. At least this would explain that I get that replacement message even when loading older saves that were made before a re-install of the whole game and all Store stuff. I still own the Store stuff and I haven't removed items but no matter what I do, when loading these older saves some Store items will get replaced. This happens both under MacOs and Windows Vista. EDIT: Correction - this has so far only happened with saves that were made while I still played on MacOs and then loaded that save in Windows.
Maybe you'd like to check with a specific file yourself: This lot here (http://linna.modthesims.info/download.php?t=432883), for example, has given me endless trouble trying to install it. I downloaded the additional build items as both sims3packs and packages, but no chance, it will not stay installed.
ETA: This is (http://linna.modthesims.info/download.php?p=3490914#post3490914) what I had posted in the creator's comment section.

Yeah, it’s the same thing as you are saying babele44. It’s just so bothersome that it says it installed fine and then I go in game find out it’s not there, go back to launcher and it’s like I never installed it.
After getting a bunch of new Sims3Packs today that actually work it seems like the reason the others don’t show up is because of the missing EP/SPs. I thought that being replaced with proxies they would still show up but I guess not.
The link you gave me unfortunately did not work for me either and it has the same problem that it won’t stay installed after I enter the game.
Thanks for your response anyway!!
