What do I need in order to play TS3 Pets + CC & Mods with maxed settings?
Below is my current system.
The Sims is currently unplayable on my comp. It takes forever to load, and when it finally does the graphics are extremely bad (no matter how high or low I have the settings), and when I go into buy mode it freezes.
Sorry for being so n00bish.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Really? Your graphics card isn't the best but it also isn't that bad. Framerate aside, if things look ugly at high or medium, it's probably something else messing with your system. Can you take a screenshot so I can see what you mean by "extremely bad"?

I notice you've recently updated your graphics drivers. Did you do that after the problem started? Did it make any difference?

Regarding the lag, there are many possible causes. First things first, rename the TS3 folder in Documents (to "The Sims 3 backup" or something), and try playing in any EA world other than Bridgeport. Does that make any difference to the lag?

Could you provide a screenshot of the graphics problems?

Please also do the following test:
In some cases, game bugs/crashes/general computer issues can be caused by your computer overheating. To ascertain whether or not overheating is a cause of your problem, please follow these steps:

Firstly, download and install HWMonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html). Run the program - you should see lots of numbers; if you don't know what any of them mean, don't worry - you don't have to. :)

With HWMonitor running, use your computer normally for twenty or thirty minutes - no games, just browsing the web, using IM, playing minesweeper etc - and at the end of the twenty or thirty minutes, take a screenshot of the HWMonitor window and save it.

Then do the same again, keeping HWMonitor open, while you play Sims for twenty to thirty minutes. If your game is crashing before the thirty minutes is up, just play until it crashes. If your computer is freezing, shutting down, or restarting itself, play for as long as you think you can before the freeze/shutdown/reboot, then quit the game. Take another screenshot of the HWMonitor window.

Finally, attach both screenshots to a post in this thread - you can upload them to photobucket or tinypic etc, or you can hit "Go Advanced" in the Quick Reply box and use manage attachments to upload them to MTS.

I couldn't take any screen captures by pressing the prt sc button like I thought I could (it just resulted in a black box when I pasted into paint), so eventually decided to just capture some 'memories' in game...
http://www.thesims3.com/memory/memoryExchange.html?action=default&persona=fresnel_lens
It's not just the graphics that is annoying me, it is the fact that the whole game is running incredibly slowly (sims seem to do everything in slow-mo even when I have it set on Ultra Speed), edge scrolling doesn't work properly (sometimes it just crawls at snail pace, other times it just zooms me off into nowhere), the game freezes when I buy things in buy mode, when I go into different lots or if I change floors in lots all of the objects either disappear or turn grey and take forever to return to normal.
I reformatted my computer and re-installed everything in case that would make a difference, but it didn't. I'm also assuming that I need more RAM or something, because that always goes up to about 95% on my CPU Monitor gadget on my desktop.

Ahh, ok, so the graphics aren't actually glitched, you're just getting some lag in loading the textures.

Please answer my other questions/follow the rest of the instructions, and let us know how you get on. :) The minimum required RAM is 4GB, and yes, having more RAM will mean better performance - but you shouldn't be getting serious lag on that system anyway, so there is definitely something else at work.

That's after it was running for about 20 mins. I wasn't really doing much on the comp in the meantime as I had a few chores to do.. like making my partner their evening cuppa! :-)

I'm planning on buying more RAM... 12GB in total should be enough, right?

"I notice you've recently updated your graphics drivers. Did you do that after the problem started? Did it make any difference?"
Like I said earlier, I reformatted my computer on the weekend and re-installed everything in case that would make a difference, but it didn't... The graphics drivers probably got updated then. The day I did that, I went into the game and the graphics were more glitchy than they were before... however they seem to be not as bad tonight for some reason.

"Regarding the lag, there are many possible causes. First things first, rename the TS3 folder in Documents (to "The Sims 3 backup" or something), and try playing in any EA world other than Bridgeport. Does that make any difference to the lag?"
Admittedly, I haven't done the first part of what you said, because I didn't really understand why you said to do it. I've tried playing in different EA worlds before, and the same things happened. I know I had some dodgy CC at one stage a while ago that caused the Blue Lots Of Doom, but can't remember if I actually found what it was/removed it. Either way, I haven't had that problem for a while.

"Ahh, ok, so the graphics aren't actually glitched, you're just getting some lag in loading the textures."
Right. I still don't understand 100% how the game works, but that kind of makes sense. Sometimes they do go a bit spazzo though. Sometimes objects look really distorted, and sim's and pet's faces (especially their eyes) look weird every now and then.

"The minimum required RAM is 4GB, and yes, having more RAM will mean better performance - but you shouldn't be getting serious lag on that system anyway, so there is definitely something else at work."
If you don't think that it is the RAM causing the problem, what do you think is?

"edge scrolling doesn't work properly (sometimes it just crawls at snail pace, other times it just zooms me off into nowhere)"

I forgot to mention that pretty much the same thing happens with the up, down, rotate left, rotate right, zoom in, and zoom out controls in the game...

Can you post a different picture? That one is WAY too small to make anything out.

Renaming the TS3 folder is an important part of the troubleshooting process. It's a way to rule out what can be causing your problems. Definitely do that if you haven't done it yet.
We don't know what the problem is. That's why we're asking all these questions, so that we can get enough information to figure it out.

And, please don't multipost, just use the edit button.

Also, how much of the 4GB of RAM is in use while you're simply on the desktop and not running any programs?

Sorry, I've been sick so haven't been on my comp for a while.

"Can you post a different picture? That one is WAY too small to make anything out."
As I said, I couldn't figure out how to do it any other way, because every time I tried to capture a screen shot the only other way I know how to all I got was a black box on my screen.

"Renaming the TS3 folder is an important part of the troubleshooting process. It's a way to rule out what can be causing your problems. Definitely do that if you haven't done it yet.

Sorry, I was worried that it would stuff up my game even more or something. I didn't realise that the game would automatically make a new copy of the folder. :-)

"And, please don't multipost, just use the edit button."
Sorry, I'm not used to there being one! None of the other forums I post in regularly have one. :-)

"Also, how much of the 4GB of RAM is in use while you're simply on the desktop and not running any programs?"
About 25%. Now that I have more RAM it is about that with the game running!

Removing all of my CC, adding more RAM and setting the game to the right freaking screen resolution seem to have helped. I'm now playing the game with the graphics maxed out, and (apart from my computer making squealy noises when the game is running, and there being lines across the screen when I zoom in and out or toggle the camera left or right) I haven't come across any funny looking stuff, and the game doesn't crash when I go into buy mode any more.
What can I use to check my CC to find the damaged files, as it would appear that they were causing my game to crash?
