Can't get CC to work no matter what...

I've tried just about everything. I don't get what's wrong. It worked just find on my old computer. This one has Windows 7 and the old one had Vista, if that's relevant.

I'm patched up to 1.7.9.002002.

This might just be me being incredibly dim or something, but I've been fretting over this for months. I'd be really grateful if anyone could help me, and please do tell if there's something else you need to see.

How far up do I need to patch? And the CC worked for my game on my other computer when I had game version 1.0.632, so I just don't think that's it...

To at least 1.12. You can use CC prior to that patch level, but the installation and setup is different, and we no longer offer support for it because it causes no end of problems with various mods. :)

But I'm already at 1.7.9... And I already changed location of my mods and stuff (old way -> new way and whatnot).

1.7.9 is a lower patch version than 1.12 - 1.7 - 7 is lower than 12. You need to update.

Ambitions update game to 1.12 by default, so any update before that uses the old way of having mods.
I think 1.7.9 is what World Adventure use.
