View Full Version : DVD-Rom Vs CD-Rom?

For some reason, my computer can only play DVD-Rom Sims 2 expansion packs, so I can't install a lot of the older expansion packs unless I get a collection pack (like the Sims 2 Fun With Pets or University Life.) But I was wondering why though--Is it because my computer's new? It's only been around for 2-3 years, and it's a refurbished Vista. I'm just frustrated that the majority of the expansion packs I'd gotten last year would not play with the exception of Apartment Life...
What 'Roms does your computer play with? What expansions do you have?

My computer is pretty much brand new- just got it in March. I was able to install all my discs- some are CDs and some are DVDs. The only EP I don't have is University. Is it possible that your computer's disc drive will only read DVD's?

I got my laptop last October (2011). I just installed a brand new copy of Double Deluxe, along with all of my old EP's and SP's. They are a mix of CD-ROM's and DVD-ROM's, and they all installed fine. I have no idea why a computer wouldn't install Sims 2 games that were on CD-ROMS. Could you computer actually not read them at all, or did it read them but then fail to install them properly?

I just got this computer and all my EP's and the base are CD's -- I can play them just fine. I had no issue whatsoever installing and playing.

My Pc Desktop is "Custom Made" I had it made just to play super games, it's not even a year old, all of my Sims Eps are PC CD- Rom software. A long time ago EA had problem with the DVD version lots of people return them so they had a re-call. I have Base game, and all the expansions through Seasons they are all PC CD-Rom I have no problem they play fine on Window 7 I was told there is only a small different between Vista and window 7
Maybe you need to get some Tech help or have someone check your setting or, if you look on your booklet that come with your game you can call EA and get Tech help
They also have a Help section here for game, but I think you need someone to help you in the tech department. I hope your problem get fixed.

Are you having problems with downloading Bon Voyage?
If it is, it might be a SecuRom problem.
