I once rubbed out an entire neighborhood because the surrounding hills kept the sun from ever reaching the flat building area. I found the eternal gloom just too depressing. Sounds like you may have to lower at least one wall to let the sun in.

You can't - the only way to do it is to leave a gap in the outer wall (to the outside). You can get round it sometimes using fences and a big gate. Not the same I know. How about a postern gate for your castle or something?
