Hi there. I'm having a problem in my game. I have all the expansion packs for the sims 2, plus Mansion and Garden. I'm playing in Desiderata Valley, and some of my couples have a glitch.
It has happened two times. The first time, while playing with the Aspir household, I noticed that Victor Aspir had no relationship with his wife Elizabeth. Like, he didn't even know her, she wasn't even in his relationship panel. Elizabeth remembered him as her husband and BFF. Victor treated her like a stranger, he wouldn't act like her husband. :(

The second time (today), I entered the Contrary household, wich in my game consists of the old couple Opal and Edward Contrary and the new couple Rick and Violet, who are now married and have been together since college. Again, as soon as I loaded their family, I noticed that Rick had no relationship with his wife. He still has the memories (Got engaged, got married, had a great wedding party etc.) but he doesn't treat her as his wife - or lover or friend, for that matter.
I had to build their relationship from the ground, even though Violet considered him her husband. Now Rick is in love with her again, but they can't get married or engaged because she still sees him as husband, while he sees her just as his lover.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening or at least fix it without having to build the relationship from the ground? Like with cheats, for example? Do I have to have SimPE to fix it?

It sounds like your neighborhood has a major problem. The most likely explanations are covered in the Game_Help:Game_Problem FAQ. Please do the entire FAQ. If you continue to have problems, tell us exactly what you tried and the results of the tests.

The problem is that the bug (or glitch, or whatever) is random. The first time that happened was two weeks ago, and then it happened again today, with two different families.
I guess I could try monitoring the Contrary household while checking my user files. Seeing if Rick ever gets the option to propose to Violet again.

Intermittent problems can be a real problem to debug. However, what you're seeing is definitely not normal behavior and it would be nice if you could find the problem.

Things like installing patches and deleting cache files should be handy, even if they don't solve the problem. So, you could certainly do those parts of the Game Problem FAQ.

You might want to try running the HCDU (Hack Conflict Detection Utility), to see whether you have any conflicting mods. You can download it from http://www.simwardrobe.com/ under Sims 2 > Programs.

If you want a quick fix, you can always reset relationships using SimPE or a mod like the SimBlender. Those won't prevent the problem from occurring in the future, but at least you won't spend all of your play-time trying to restore their relationships.
