View Full Version : Will neighborhood gone after install new EP?

I'm sorry if i'm on the wrong section.
Anyway Hi, I'm going to install Pets. I currently have Uni and OfB with some family I'm playing and I'm afraid I'll lost them. About the backup thingy, how can I backup families instead of the whole folder?
I once installed all the EP (excpt NL,BV,Freetime) and as far as I remember there are only two neighborhood available, Belladonna Cove and the other one I can't remember.
I'm sorry again if this sounds like the dumbest question ever as this is the first time I install new EP with families I'm currently playing.

You have to backup the neighborhood. You can't take families out of neighborhoods safely without cloning them.
To backup the neighborhood, copy its folder from My Documents/EAGames/Sims2/Neighborhoods to another location, preferably an external one in case Something Awful happens to your machine. You can tell whether you have all the neighborhoods by looking in the Neighborhoods folder. N001 is Pleasantview, N002 is Strangetown, N003 is Veronaville, and the other premade neighborhoods are E001, G001, and F001. Custom neighborhood default number uses N00X, with X being the next number in the sequence, so if you've made three custom neighborhoods and only care about the most recent, you'd backup N006. If in doubt, open the Storytelling subfolder inside the neighborhoods to see whose pictures appear where.
You should see three neighborhoods at a time, and they should be arranged in alphabetical order. To see the second screen, click the side arrow.
Don't feel stupid about asking questions. There's a lot going on in this game, some of it makes no sense, and even what does make sense isn't going to be intuitive to everybody.

If I don't back them up, will I lost families I made?

You might. It's not designed to kill the installed neighborhoods during an installation, but if something goes wrong in the installation process it can (and has) overwritten them. You will also need to have the backup if you ever decide to uninstall an EP, since the uninstall does wipe out everything, and the game you had with the EP installed doesn't work anymore when you remove it.

Okay I get it now :) Thank you very much. I'm going to backup my neighborhoods.
Just start playing and everything is fine :D
