Because in Sims 3 Discussion I've got a mod and two users claiming the "help" button at the top of the page not only doesnt work, but that the pages it links to don't work.

And yet, here I am, clicking it and accessing these pages with absolutely no problem.

Despite the discussion where I asked how that is physically possible happening in a thread made in the wrong place, I was denied an answer because that was the wrong place to ask. Irony is fun, huh?

So yeah. I'm asking here. How is it physically possible that 3 people can supposedly be on a site where the java is being reworked and pages are apparently "under construction", but i'm over here clicking and accessing them with absolutely no difficulty whatsoever?

Just so you know...
You are NOT crazy, I too have had NO problem with the help menu.

I will not comment any further...
(they are watching). I've already said too much.

Despite the fact that, yes, MTS does run multiple servers, all of the menus (which includes Help, Downloads, Create etc) run the same menu code served from the same server. It's actually impossible for ONLY the Help menu to not work and nothing else.

With that said, most of the help pages actually use the wiki - again, one server serving everybody. It's possible that some of the pages on the wiki are under construction (I know of at least 1 area), but that doesn't mean they *all* are. The basics (installing pacage files, etc) should - and do - work fine.

Tumblr - Yes, I have a blog. :)

<Corsix> Why 'mod the sims 2' when you can mod 'mod the sims 2'?

Story books are full of fairy tales, of Kings and Queens, and the bluest skies.

Hm. very strange then, that I had 3 people(including a mod) telling me that the button wasn't working, and neither were any of the links.

Everything loaded perfect for me except one page, I forget which(though ti was an arbitrary one, I believe, on the wiki).

Funny.

There is a fourth person now.
All links from the drop down menus and from the old forum view that lead to the Wiki give me blank pages. The only exeption is the link to the Content List from WCIF.

Edit:
The blank pages contain a link: "Click here to view this page on Sims2Wiki". This link to the Wiki works.

Delphy, for what it's worth, the difference seems to be

Loads properly: http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help
Doesn't: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help (www or linna)

Okay looks like Linna was the culprit here. One of the nameservers that was being used is no longer in service, so it was unable to connect to the simswiki server to grab the page from the database.

I just checked all of the following URLs:
http://nene.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help
http://linna.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help
http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help
http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help

They all work fine. Incidentally, modthesims.info and www.modthesims.info are both DNS round robins that randomly select either Nene or Linna. So they are usually not good to use as a definitive test, since in reality it's either Nene or Linna thats causing problems.

Thanks to mangaroo and arathea for the info.
