Wrongly Banned/Suspended #1 |

Hi all! I'm here for a friend of mine who is unable to access MTS because he has been suspended. He hasn't been on MTS before and the first time he comes on a signs up the server tells him his account has been suspended!  I'm not sure what may have caused this but he has tried contacting the mods several times and no response. If someone could please help I would really appreciate it and he would too!  His username is 'max2sims2'. If you need anymore information please ask and I will seek for it :O Thank you so much! |

I don't see any problems with that account name. The IP isn't banned (nor the account itself), it's been activated, and has been in use since April 2009. If you can get the exact text of the error message and the URL of where they are when the error occurs we can probably help a bit more. |

This is the error message he gets when he tries to log on: "Sorry. The administrator has banned your IP address. To contact the administrator click here" Thanks |

I'm sorry but I am confused! You say that he hasn't been on the site before but his profile says that he was active on the 29th March 2010! He joined on 26th Jan 2009. He also has one post on 29th April 2009! So, how can he not have been on the site before? |

When an IP address gets banned, everyone coming from that address will get this message, no matter who they are. So maybe he's using a different address now than the one he usually has? That's why HP asked where he's trying to connect from. |

Well, none of the IPs your friend is using are banned, so I don't really know what to tell you. Can he connect from somewhere else - like a library or work/school? |

This is not "unfair" – it's simply a result of the fact that not everyone on the planet has their own personal IP address. IP addresses are assigned to countries, organisations, companies, routers, computers .. but not to people. It's simply how the internet works and we obvously can't change that. What's puzzling, though, is that white says they aren't using a banned address in the first place, so maybe there is a technical solution to that. |

Maybe it's not logging their IP for some reason? It hasn't logged any IPs for that account since 29 March If your friend goes to this site: http://whatismyipaddress.com/ ... it should tell him his IP address. And... no, it's not really fair, but unfortunately it's the way the internet works - sometimes we have no choice but to bar a range of IPs from the site to keep known troublemakers out - people who keep coming back under new names and causing issues. We don't like to have to do it, so we employ other methods first, but sometimes it's the last resort... To make the site safe and enjoyable to use for the majority of our thousands and thousands of users, sometimes we have to bar a handful of innocent folks along with the bad ones. |

Actually, right now, you should only see that message if you try and register a new account. You wont see it if you go to, say, the home page. |

This may be a silly question, but how well do you know your friend? A lot of other sites would be able to give him the same error message with the same colors. He might not have gotten that picture from going to MTS. |

Nah, those pics are definitely from here - the long "your IP is banned" thing is something specific to MTS for sure - we just changed it recently so it's a bit more information. Generally we don't remove IP bans but if it's a very old ban, maybe. |
