How would I go about making a pattern that would only need one pattern to fit inside the 4x4 rug. In other words I want a picture in the middle W/o looping over and over. How could this be achieved?

Don't think you can. Tiling is a basic part of the patterns. I don't know if you could lone the rug and add a pattern texture to it though, I haven't done much in the way of meshing. You could ask around in the meshing forum or groups and see if anyone there can help you
