I did look into the faq but it only deals with installed EP that are completely there
(or did I overlook something?)

my game gives me the following problem
->I can't get the EP2 and EP3 functional

I have it running on M&G with all but EP2 and EP3 for the last half year
and as you all might know how the updater does it's job with EP8 and the M&G SP
it made my game up-to-date

now I finally got those 2 EP setups to accept my pc and put the files in
so far no problem. the updater checked the game and said you are up-to-date.
after that the problem came down.....

->updater repeats the message and starts removing the EP again..

I know how to protect the EP files on my drive so the second time around
these files are still there.
and of course I was ready to kill the updater the second time around too
so basicly I have alll the files in place (and in read only type).
but I can't protect the registry from this

some of the nightlife stuff, if not all of it, is in the buy catalog
I know this because last week the DJ booth was only known to me because of it's picture on this forum, it is now in one of my houses.

it also disabled some of my CC files for which I did find the fix so that should be active again

one thing remains a problem :the game does not know the EP is installed (this is a valid point for both EP sets)
I want to know how I can get that fixed,
prefered with my N003 still working as it should with all my 180 sims and their memory intact

just so you know, I also tried to manually put the neighborhoods from these in the my documents, and that does exactly nothing
edit-> it did put the neighborhoods in the start screens but when I enter my veronaville I get a warning they are uninstalled

the most simple way to fix it will do
but I need to know how not to break my active town and to get the hoods I want in there

until now nightlife and open for business are showing disabled icons (NH view - top bar)
like they did before I got the discs installing.

Have you tried bypassing the launcher since that can cause problems with EPs not being recognized? Instructions on how to do this are found here at the wiki: Wiki - Bypassing the Launcher

that is not helping

I already run my game this way since day 1
and even more direct, I don't use the icon and menu-links to it
I start my Sims2EP9.exe direct from the run-program command line

still it says 'the EP is uninstalled if you continue.................'

and it is not the previous EP disapearing from the set after installing a newer one
it is clearly an older EP not getting permanently installed after the latest EP has already been running


fact is:
it never got to be a finished install in the first place

it gets to 100% marker and then that updater starts
says the game is up to date and starts to remove the EP it is from

I file protected the stuff on my drive the last time I got to that point
so the files are still here
but the comments 'the EP has been uninstalled' in fact are true

I only get this message since I manually put the neighborhoods from these EPs in the neighborhood folder
which I did after trying to see if the game was able to find the EPs
if I remove these the game starts as if these EPs were never there
