Hi guys ! Sorry if my english isn't correct, I'm french.
I'm a machinima maker and I plan to make poses and animations with a flashlight. I looked desperately for a flashlight for my sim but after hours-long search, I noticed nobody had the idea to create one as accessory. So, I thought to the flashlight from Generations. I would like to convert it to accessory for the CAS and I wonder if it is possible to keep the light which gets out of it like on the pictures (or to have a similar effect). If somebody feels able to do it or to say to me if it is possible or not, it would be really really nice

Thanks !

(I managed to export the file with S3PE and I can open the LOD/MODEL files with Milkshape but after, I don't exactly know what to do.)

Pictures :

you might can do this with some glasses and assigne the glass of the light to the fullbright shader.
i can do a test if this works
You also can have a look at esmeralda's servo, it also has a glow on it.

Yes, an effect like that ! http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=375639 Esmeralda said I must use Delphy's SimGeom Editor and choose "Ghost Eyes" option but I'm still a novice. I really don't know how to apply this effect to the flashlight.
It would be great if you could do a test ! With The Sims 3 Supernatural, I think it would be an accessory very appreciated by the community (Unhappily, I saw no flashlight in the trailer or on the pictures )

Hi ReMs, glad you decided to give this a try! Yes, use Delphy's SimGeom Editor and do the following:

1. As we discussed in our PMs, you need to make your flashlight accessory with two meshes, one mesh for the handle, and one mesh for the light. Open the 'light' mesh with SimGeom Editor, and then where it says 'Shader Type' at the top left corner of the window, click on the scroll button next to it and scroll down to choose 'Ghost Eyes'.

2. Click the 'Set' button, then click the 'Commit' button below that.

3. Save your file.

The 'light' mesh should now produce a glowing effect in-game. Hope that works! If not, let us know what happened.

Hi ! Thanks for your help So, for the light, I need to create a new mesh with Milkshape and place it on the flashlight, isn't it ?

Yes, that's it, you need a lens-shaped mesh that fits over the front of the flashlight. I would have thought that the Generations flashlight would come with a separate lens-shaped mesh to produce the 'light'? When you open your MLOD file in Milkshape, does it have more than one 'Group', and is one of the groups a lens-shaped mesh?

If so, you will want to export that as a separate mesh from the rest of the flashlight, so that you can apply the glowing effect to just that one mesh. Export each of those two parts of the flashlight as two obj files.

As we discussed the other day, you need to choose a CAS accessory to clone from, such as a ring or watch, to import your flashlight meshes into, and you need to import your two obj files into Milkshape and convert them to simgeom files, first giving them the necessary joint assignments and Group comments.

Then when you package the flashlight as a CAS accessory, you'll input the handle of the flashlight as LOD0_0 and the lens-shaped mesh as LOD0_1 (and so on for LOD1_0 and LOD1_1, etc) , so that they are packaged separately from each other.

The finished result should be a glowing lens and a non-glowing handle, if all goes well!

Hum, okay, thanks ! Nope, there's just one group. I'll try to apply your tips tonight

Ah, in that case you'll need to make a separate 'lens' mesh to apply the glowing effect to. I guess if the Generations flashlight only has one mesh, the light must be some sort of effect coded into the game rather than coming from the mesh itself. Good luck!

Yes, probably. It's a real pity

Yes, the Ghost Eyes shader will give you the same effect. But you need to make a separate mesh for the lens, to apply the glowing effect to it. You can't just apply it to part of a mesh, as far as I know - if you can, I'd like to know how, as that could be useful!

Hooray, it looks good! I don't know if the intensity can be increased, I've never tried - it may be something you can change in the values of the MTNF Entries, but I don't know what to change or how much to change it. If it is possible to do that, maybe someone who knows will come along and be able to advise.

In any case, thank you very much for your help. I think I will do some tests by changing the values.

uhm, is that the one i uploaded?
Cos i had much more glow on it in my game...maybe graphic settings?
I wasn't happy with fingers so i changed the position a bit, will upload in a sec.

Edit,

Lol, you can even add a beam.
Not sure how good you are with textures and meshing but you then should take the ghost hair and make the beam more transparant at the end.
Worth a try(the sim ghost eye shader is solid and non castable)

hmmm, not such good advice....i fiddled with the settings but it is not going to work with ghost hair.
Its shader needs a diffrent setup, same like hair(with diffrent texture setup)
I might try the ghost shader itself, but for now im bored with all the trying.

Ahhhhh, so it's another mesh - I thought you'd figured out a way to make the actual glow a lot bigger! Looks great in any case!

Hi guys! This is quite of an interesting thing and I just have to ask: In what tutorial am I suppose to find this? Is it meshing? CAS? Or Pure scripting (goodness I might just die with that). I want to make a chest flashlight (Silent Hill 2 style) and I need to know what tutorial I need to look at. I actually know how to make poses and animations might as well try a new one
