I'm creating an entire default replacement clothing starting with toddler. My bodyshop files look fine but after defaulting the new textures they are very pixelated and the alpha seemes to spread out a few pixles too giving a very ugly seam.
On Build DXT I've been using DXT3 format, putting sharpen:Smoothen and mipmap level to 1.
Is this wrong?
Does anyone know the best format's and values to use please?

Can't decide if I'm indecisive

IIRC, mipmap level of 1 means that you'll only ever be using a 1x1 pixel texture. SimPE will show you the exact sizes that it's using, just check the size list. A mipmap level of 9 or 10 is much more common.

What size is your original texture?

Thank you I remember reading somewhere that mipmap level should be set to one
They're size is 512, I'll just re-import and set mipmaps to 10 then

mipmaps levels are multiples of 2. So, you should expect levels of 512, 256, 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2, and 1. In other words, 10 levels is the right number for an original texture of 512x512.

Thank's for helping Mootilda. I've re-imported setting the level to 10 but it still looks the same. Is there a way to to import the alpha properly. I just right click and import alpha once the the replaced texture is there and the alpha still lookes iffy too. I'll try reimporting using DXT5.

EDIT: Still the same with other DXT types! There are no good tutorials for deafault clothing either so I can't look to find where I've gone wrong!!!! And there was me thinking I knew how to do defaults when I started

I'm afraid you've exhausted my knowledge. Let's see whether someone else can help.

Alright so if anyone who's done defaults or attempted could give me feed back it would be hugely, hugely, hugely appreciated.
Right now I have no use for average clothing, zombie apocalypse is coming to Stangetown so clean clothes just looks wrong once I've 'destroyed' building's. It's not just for that though, I plan on doing gothier, witchy clothing for another themed hood. I just won't be happy with it otherwise, talk about mood breaker!

Here's what I've done for anyone who can help

- Edited clothing in bodyshop and added to game for a look over.

- Exported clothing from sims 7 package.

- Added exported packages to a new package.

- Build DTX 3, Sharpness:Smothen and Levels 10, added alphas ect, save.

- Check ingame, very blury.

Looked online for info but there's not much I could find. I did read 'set levles to 1' for a makeup one I think so tried that'. And after setting levels back to 10 thanks to Mootilda I've reimported using both DXT5 and DX51 but still no diffrence. Bodyshop packages look fine ingame though.

The above are just the ones I really notice it on, some aren't so bad but the quallity loss is on all of them. Anyone know where I'm going wrong? Pretty Please

I just spend ages typing that out and I see your reply! thank you

EDIT: Ah nevermind that didn't work either! I may just start all over again with fresh extracts and a new file using (hopefully) the right settings.

UPDATE: Started from scratch on just one file this time. Used DXT5, Sharpen: none, levels 10. Still the same......... Has anyone tried defauting? I just want to know if it worked OK or it came out pixelated too. I'm running out of ideas!

EDIT: What are the lifo files for because I noticed they disappear once I've 'Build DTX'?

Have you tried this with other ages? Toddlers are hard to get sharp. They use 512x512 textures (unlike all the other age groups, which use 1024x1024 textures).

Oh, wait a sec... I just saw where you said "- Exported clothing from sims 7 package." You need to export your textures (the lifo_0 files) from Sims 8, Sims 9, etc. (different ages are in different packages, IIRC). If you're taking the textures from Sims 7, they will be very blurry because those textures are tiny!

So lifo means large image file! I've found them and trying a test file but now when I import the alpha in SimPE the texture reverts back to original It doesn't like me doing that!!! How am I supposed to import an alpha?
This is turning into such a pain. Sorry for being pain too

EDIT: I could alway's re-do the textures by exporting them straight from SimPE since it retains transparency but I have editedsome alphas so for those few I really need to use them. It doesn't do this on the other files!

EDIT AGAIN: If I import the textures, save and quit then reopen it, it'll retain when importing the alpha. Fingers crossed I'm checking in game. Thank you both so much

This is what happens when I change the alphas

I'm so sorry for for bugging you. That happens after changing the alphas on all the clothes I've tried. Why does it not like me

EDIT: Solved, it doesn't like bodyshop bmp's! If anyone's making defaults extract textures and alphas straight from SimPE (but the not sims7) and keep it as PNG! Alpha's still a bit iffy on shoes in game but I'm not complaining about it since I can live with it now that it's not so bad Only change alpha if it's really needed.

Thanks to you both for the support

If you want good texture quality try DXT5 instead of DXT3, a few original outfits have it in sims 2 and they look better imo.
Always choose none when building DXT but that is mentioned before already

Ahh... I didn't realize you were using the bitmap files for import! Yeah... that won't work. You need the PNG when you import, since there's no real way to import the alpha on its own (the PNG is a combination of the texture and alpha bitmaps, which results in transparency in all the right places).

Body Shop also has its own compression, so if you work from files you exported in Body Shop, you can have a slight decrease in quality (and you can get some nasty noise artifacts, especially on dark colours). It's best to work from the original lifo files and import them with SimPE if you want nice, clean texture images.

Glad you got it to work!

At least I know now, there's nothing like a load of fuss and a butload of mistakes to really teach the lesson. I'll never forget it now though
I'm supprised there's no tutoial for it, considering how old this game is now!
Still, thank's again all.

I learned once from this one.
He once told me you best save your png as ''save for web'' if you have that option in your editor.
