I haven't been able to play sims since late feb but when I am (which might be sometime this week) I will be trying to create an office admin assistant career mod (ie for those who are from the older gens..Office Admin assistant it means sectary. That's what I will be when I can get a job.) when I get sims running again but need help with names of the level. There would be two mods one would be for the business rabbit hole, the other one would be for the hopstial:

business:

level 1-coffee maker
You make the coffee "latte or decafe?" If you work hard enough you could move up to answer the phone!

10 Personal Assistant to business tycoon

medical
?
2. receptionist
?
10 PA to World Renown Surgeon

the main skill would be of writing.

any ideas?

this would be the time they would work: 8am-6pm

First off, you have to give it time. 5 hours isn't much for feedback. Also, I don't know about anyone else, but I imagine that coming up with 10 career levels for a secretary is a bit daunting. Maybe consider making it a "part time" job which only has three levels?

But I don't want it to be just 3 levels or part time. Since it would be unfair to those OAAs who work full time.

Okay, I understand that. Believe me, I have been an office assistant before and I know that there are multiple career choices that one can have when in that profession. The sims is not a realistic game though. They mix and match careers to get overall career paths. Since when do doctors start out as organ donors?

Also, all of the careers listed above are not direct linear promotional levels from one to the other. I'm not saying it CAN'T be done. Just saying that keeping the level descriptions interesting and exciting may be a bit more complicated. Especially since you actually want to make 2 careers instead of one.

I love the idea of a business-related office assistant.

Some ideas for the office levels:
Coffee Maker, Gopher,
Receptionist
Word Processor, Clerk
Office Administrator
Office Manager
Assistant Secretary
Executive Assistant

You have a lot of good ones up in your list. I wouldn't worry if these are not linear in progression as in real life. A person who has office assistant experience could possibly rise to a purchasing assistant if they showed initiative or even work in Human Resources eventually. This is a game, doesn't have to be perfect.

I love the idea of my sims working in this type of a career.

I'd think you'll find it difficult to come up with interesting, unique job descriptions when the levels are so similar - you can only make jokes about coffee, water coolers, and putting tippex on the computer screen so many times, after all. Perhaps you're more imaginative than I, and can come up with enough stuff to keep them all interesting - but do bear it in mind, you don't want to accidentally slip into "You get coffee" "Now you do photocopying" "Now you handle the boss's diary" and so on.

You should consider making it a part-time career to avoid the repetitiveness. It's the raises that count anyway.

To make it interesting you could imagine different kinds of bosses, like the guy who can't really do anything right and need you to fix all for him. So the only thing you miss out of is the risk of being fired, because you didn't do it - he did. Another type of boss could be the guy who never hear what you say and end up being fired too. Another boss could be the guy who search for support somewhere else, but you just got him behind his back. So he got fired and you stay.

So a red thread could be all the bosses you got fired and now everyone fears you, but you're such an asset to the company, you know everyone but like it best in the shadows.

Just a suggestion, perhaps you could spin around this?

I'd go with more of a scheme something like:

1 - Intern - Your main tasks are making coffee and cleaning the washrooms. You get a few simoleons for the work, but it's not enough to pay the bills.
2 - Filing Monkey - Your butt goes numb along with your brain as you sit in a chair all day, getting near-lethal papercuts. Still, it's better than cleaning toilets!
3 - Receptionist - Oh boy, they've put you on the phones! It seems exciting, till you realize that 95% of the people calling in are mad about something, and the other 5% are just trying to sell grave plots.
4 - Copier and Collator - Just when you thought the papercuts had fully healed, they've given you massive stacks of paperwork to copy, collate, and assemble, using the ancient copier. Try to resist the urge to put in random photocopies of your butt.
5 - Data Entry Drudger - Hey, you finally get to touch a real computer - even if it is one that's almost as old as you are and is steam-powered.
6 - Letter Writer - This is starting to get interesting, as you work typing up letters from your boss's nearly-illegible hand-written notes. Does that say "pudding" or "poutine" and why would either one be in a legal document to your company's director?
7 - Office Manager - Finally, your hard work is paying off, as you've been given some real responsibility - even if it is mostly handling interpersonal issues between your underlings and ordering more post-its.
8 - Personal Assistant - Scheduling meetings, picking up dry-cleaning, and fetching coffee isn't a real brain-teaser, but it is fairly low stress, as long as your boss is in a good mood.
9 - PA to Regional Manager - Along with a raise in hierarchy, you get a nice pay boost as you get scooped up by your company's regional manager, who can be a real pain but always lets you keep the change when you go out for their favourite scones.
10 - PA to CEO - You've really made it, getting to accompany your boss on weekend trips to Aruba - first class! Now if he'd just stop trying to get you to "hold his putter" when he asks you to come golfing with him...

Any career is possible; make a new thread for a new career. If you are abandoning this one, close the thread.

I got my sims working again and I'm at to work creating this. What does "Metric", "Mapping" & "Args" mean? I kind of need to know so I know what to put into those things via the Package Editor that I got via Twaillian's Tutorial.

The "Metrics" are the areas on the career panel that tell you what you need for your Sim to advance their career. For example:

Mood
Coworkers
Charisma

The "Mappings" are the values that determine what is defined as "Outstanding", "Normal" and "Awful".

The "Args" are only used for skilling metrics, and this is what skill you're using.

So a metric would look like this:

<Metric1>SkillX</Metric1>
<Mappings1>-2,0,3</Mappings1>
<Args1>Charisma</Args1>

Does that help?
