Unfortunately around here it's mostly coal. There are 3 nuke plants within about 50 miles or so (3 Mile Island, Peach Bottom and Limerick.)

Global warming/climate change is just a hoax so I wouldn't worry about it. If anything we're headed for another Ice Age (last few winters in Ohio have been FREEZING). And we had conditions like this during the Depression (Dust Bowl).

I remember Fourth of July 1990, when I was 17. 104 degrees in Detroit. Walked around Windsor, Ontario with some Australians who were visiting.

Oh, and there was no need to ban chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2456307/posts

No need to worry and fret when there's no reason to....

Finally the humidity stopped so now the heat is actually bearable. We were finally able to shut off the A/C, so now I can sleep with my window open. :D

Wow, that's HOT! I've forgotten all of that.

The thing is, for every article claiming that global warming is an unproven theory, you can find many more articles that are backed by research and scientific inquiry that say it is a real threat. I noticed this is more of an editorial piece. If you're unsure of how to judge the science in an article, stick to sites that end in ".edu" or ".gov" or do a search using "google scholar" instead of a general google search. Also, check the sources referenced to see what studies were conducted, etc....

Also I think it's not as simplistic as 'It's going to be hotter all over the earth.' Some places may become so hot that they're uninhabitable. The polar ice cap is already melting, causing sea levels to rise. And supposedly extreme weather events have been on the rise since 1980 - "According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, there were a record twelve weather disasters in the US costing more than $1 billion in 2011."' wikipedia.

If you don't have AC, try a cool shower to cool down. Having your body/head wet helps a lot, as the heat dissipates some from you as the water evaporates, and it helps cool you down quite a lot to begin with. Plus it just requires a little water, as you don't really need to do a full scrub-and-shampoo length shower, just a quick rinse.

Worked wonders when I was living in Florida and my power was out for a good month or so - no AC, no fans, but a quick shower did wonders.

This is something I've done in the past and it does help quite a bit. I have long hair and people always say to me, "Long hair gets too hot!" and I point out that pulling long hair into a ponytail gets it neatly off of your neck, plus wetting the tail is very cooling, so having long hair is an advantage.

The only thing is, this doesn't help if you have breathing issues. A/C does seem to help with that. On the other hand, I sometimes wonder if part of the breathing issues is because of going between such different environments - hot and humid outside, cool and dry inside. When I go for a walk and it starts to feel like I am breathing water, I engage in a little self-talk until I'm able to forget about the sensation of the heavy air. I remind myself that there's still oxygen in the air, enough to get a lung full. After I forget about it, I am quite comfortable outdoors.

I find a way to get some wind, whether it be outside or a fan. Even taking a drive with the windows down helps. Also, I keep a bowl of ice water and a sponge nearby. (something clean, please) I use that to moisten a few places and let evaporation cool me. Also, psych helps. They say turn lamps off. Sure the old bulbs are a bit warm, but it's mostly psych. For that matter, thinking of snow or watching snow movies helps me. And mall walking is more popular in bad weather. You can go there and walk two miles in air conditioning.

NE Ohio, good luck to you. Southern Indiana here, and been 100 to 105 for most of the week. I want to wear ice cubes.

I've heard on the radio that it's very hot in the USA, indeed. We had a few days of heat 30+°C and it was terrible because my room isn't isolated and it gets up to 40°C, humid. I'd rather like it dry.
Currently we hit 20-25°C only.

If you remember me, I'm awesome!

I seriously read the title as "You guys beating the heart?"

But I live in close to the ocean. It doesn't get very hot here, pretty much stays a cool 70F-ish all year round.

Well, it's been 105-109 the past few days, so, "beating the heat" has been compromised of laying about the house and having several pool parties a week.

And, like, a butt load of watermelon. But, that could just be me.

But, that's Texas for you.

After my aunts experiemented with ice cream and melons, my uncles tried to stuff me with barbecue, I decided "forget food, give me water. ice if you can, shady water in a jug at minimum." NaeShelle, I don't remember moving to the same state as you, but we got the same weather. Our hummingbirds stopped by, but said they're flying to Ontario this summer.

Meanwhile. I hear of floods in Russia and what happens in Europe? Your temps look lower than USA.. I don't know how this is balanced weather. You have my rain, give it back?

I'm not. I do a lot of outdoor activities since I live kind of out of town and have an Orchard/Ranch thing going on at my house.
So I'm outside taking care of animals or inside playing sims!

It is hot in Germany (near Frankfurt). Really hot!
27 to 30 ° C
One half of Germany is flooded, the other half is desert.
I have an air conditioner in my office, but I have a tip for all people without them. I used it often in my old student days. No money, little room, hot summer ...
Hang wet sheets across the room. That really helps a lot.

Though it is evening ,the sun burns us almost in flames. In Turkey it is not surprising that we are having hot weather in summer but it is getting harder to beat. Now I am like melting,I have conditioner but too lazy to open it and I don't want to risk getting ill just before my vacation. The annoying thing is that it is so humid. It just makes everything worse -_-

When I don't have power I don't have water. Damn.

Ah, we just got rain!

So, we got it in the form of thunderstorms that are causing tornado and flood warnings, but... We got it!

Trust me, it's not even near cold here. It's not the same in whole Europe as it is in one country .

Colorado was on fire when I left to go visit family on June 18th, it's still on fire now, not as badly fortunately.

I was visiting family in Iowa, blazing heat, no rain, drought conditions, but staggering humidity. Luckily my folks had geothermal installed last year so the guilt involved in running AC constantly is gone. Now if only they would have turned it down lower....

We definitely have the AC running here in CO, though during the day we keep it at 76 and the ceiling fans on. Very low humidity makes it easier to cope with. But at night it has to go lower. I'm already uncomfortable enough trying to sleep with my ever growing pregnant belly, I can't deal with being hot, too.

It's 80 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit (27 to 32 degrees Celsius) and it feels amazing compared to last week. I can at least go outside and not feel like I'm in an oven, and inside it's cool enough that I don't need a fan.
