Yes, but Second Life and The Sims works in very different ways.

Mainly that SL is build for furries, porn, and cybersex...while TS3 is an actual game.

I 2nd that. I have a hard time believing they are already working on the sims 4 when the sims 3 is still very glitchy and still just in the beginning phases. Even if there is going to be a sims 4 it might be more than 3 years before its actually officially announced.

Hah, NONE of them are real! They`re good fun, though!

How more advanced the game can get? I seriously think down the line they will put goggles on us and make us be the sims.

Hardly

They started working on The Sims 3 not too long after The Sims 2 was released. There is no date known, but they have said in interviews 'just after release'. So let's say within a year.

It is possible The Sims 4 is in early stages of production, aka brainstorming, ideas. If there even will be a The Sims 4.

Seems like Ambitions is much broader than any of these "future" expansion packs.

It has features in common with
* The Sims 3: Destination Adventure (firefighting and tattoos),
* The Sims 3: Star of Life (medical missions),
* The Sims 3: Climate (ecological trait),
* The Sims 3: A-Plus (education career),
* The Sims 3: Do It Yourself (interior design and laundry),
* The Sims 3: Epic (inventions and robots) and
* The Sims 3: Work/Play (the Southern-styled town).

It makes you wonder if there will be anything left for future expansion packs.

Fake! They [EAxis] never tell us until about six months to a year when the new basegame is coming out. Sims 4 will probally be like $100 dollars with those money piggies [EAxis]

Sims 4 depends on the overall success of the Sims 3. It took several years for the sims 2 line to come to a close, and even longer for the original Sims version to evolve. If Eaxis truly has intentions of creating a Sims 4 line, it won't start to become a reality until well after all the potential to expand TS3 has worn itself out. I can see a 2016-2017 release date at the earliest for a new platform, probably a $60.00-$70.00 price point (yes, it's a 20% jump over the previous price point, but PC games in general increased to match those being marketed for platforms like the PS3 and Xbox) , and development on the game won't start until after the company is dead certain there's nothing else they can do with Ts3 (including stuff packs, expansions, and store content).

Granted, Ts3 didn't get off to a good start. There were a lot of people dissatisfied with how Ts3 works, the content it included, and WA was a disaster in terrms of the game mechanics. Ambitions seems to have not only improved in those areas, but actually added content that expands the possibilities of game play for most Simmers. For now, Ts4 is in the "wait and see" file on Eaxis' desk... but don't discount it as a possibility.

I think the real change in the Sims will be in the form of 3d. Either you will have a 3d screen, or you will wear some sort of 3d glasses. Years ago, I remember LCD glasses for the Atari ST which would allow for 3d vision. The technology already exists, and has existed for some time.

You see the Sims games are already all but set up for 3d. The sims, objects, town -- everything -- already exist in a 3d world. They are just rendered to a 2d screen. When they make a 3d movie, large parts have to be converted into a 3d form. For the sims, this already has been done.

Another interesting take on the Sims would be to see the world through the eyes of your sim. Instead of having a camera view from up above, you are looking through your sims' eyes. Combine this with 3d and some sort of glasses. You turn your head and your sim's head turns as well. His movements follow yours, and you see what he sees. Now that would be awesome! Anything short of that would be pretty lame.

Now combine this with voice commands. The technology already exists. Instead of clicking on a sim and pointing at a menu, you tell the sim what you want him to do. You have a microphone on your 3d glasses.

But every game seems to have its signature edition. This is the edition everyone remembers, where the game truly reaches its pinnacle. Quite often, game companies try to squeeze out one more edition, but they often are forgotten pretty quickly. IMHO, Sims 3 is getting pretty close. It's what Sims 2 should have been.

As far as anti-trust action agains EA -- in your dreams. It ain't gonna happen. No way. No how. And if the government tried, kiss the Sims goodbye.

Review of The Sims 4 Free
Published in October, 2013

Quote:
During the copyright debate of the last decade, some said that there was no way to deliver good games gratis. But since all DRM messes (Spore was not well-remembered) and all legal processes, EA has tried out new delivery models. The message that The Sims 4 Free was to be released for no-cost download, made front pages around the world. The enthusiasm was not stopped by the acknowledgement that it would just contain part of The Sims 4 Premium, which will sell for $69.99 in two months.

We don't know how far the four international sponsors (of which two happen to originate from Sweden) have dug into their pockets to display their products and billboards, but they would need to sell plenty of bookshelves, tank tops, soda bottles and cars to make a profit from the agreement. But the product placement in The Sims 4 Free is in no way intruding, like TV or Internet ads. If it was, the game would not have been downloaded 5 million times during the first month.

As the game loads, we first see the sponsors' logos, and a photo album describing the Tudor brick suburb Perch Creek, where TS4F takes place. Everything looks perfect, but the first harsh reminder that this game is freeware, comes when we click Create-a-Sim The pop-up tells "Want to create a Sim? Pre-order The Sims 4 Premium, online on December 1st!" If that wasn't enough, when Sims woo-hoo, you get another pop-up tells "Want to breed new Sims? Pre-order The Sims..." ...you get it. EA has created a formidable flaw preventing new Sims, until the player has paid for Premium. With TS4F we can just see children grow up and get old, without new generations. Then you can do nothing but start over, with just the same Sims. But that's a bit boring. This expectation-building for Premium is so brilliant, that we wonder why EA hasn't done this before.

Meanwhile, the game presents new features. One that seems small, but improves flow a lot, is the system for challenges and whims. In the first Sims game, characters just live to fill needs such as hunger and bladder. The Sims 2 introduced "wants" for the player to fulfill. However, it functioned as another need, either requiring player micro-management or a desperate Sim. The Sims 3 had optional wishes and opportunities, but the player still had to make awkward decisions about which to pursue, and which to discard.

A challenge in The Sims 4 is more or less anything that a Sim has not done before; such as proposing for marriage, visiting a new kind of lot, or tasting a new kind of meal. A challenge might lead to disappointment (and searching for new challenges) or satisfaction, which might cause a whim for doing it again, even without player's orders. In general, challenges encourage players to interact with their Sims, while whims make Sims act according to their traits. Finally, unemployed Sims look for work independently.

Earlier Sims games allowed Sims to pursue glamorous professions, such as music, politics and sports, but players were barred out from the drama, as Sims hid beyond players' sight during work hours. The Sims 4 careers are much more down-to-earth (literally, as previous games had featured opportunities to be an astronaut). Some of them take place in sponsors' factories and retail stores. In other words, these dubious international corporations display a simulation of their employees' situation, as respected, comfortable and well paid, though we know for sure how much this differs from reality. Has EA sold its soul? We won't take that discussion, we prefer to look at the features introduced in The Sims 3: Ambitions, where Sims can hang out at their career lot, eating, gossiping and watching TV.

One of these "hero careers", the Medical, actually made it all the way to The Sims 4. According to EA, they were planning a TS4 expansion with a medical setting, but they merged most of it with TS4F; they say health is so central to the Sims concept. I bet that they did so because fans demand so much of an expansion pack today, that medical features would not be enough: in The Sims 3: Ambitions, the medical career was just one among others. But we are happy to get open hospitals. They offer instant drama, as patients come and leave, and Death lurks around the corner (and that's literal in the Sims series).

The old Sims games didn't depict education, other than Sim students and teachers hiding in schoolhouses. But TS4F lifts the roof off, and you can let students write fun words on the blackboard, throw paper on the teacher's back, or actually take effort to learn real useful skills. However, when the Teacher is promoted to Head of Department, or when the Doctor becomes Specialist, you get the "Order Premium" box again.

The Sims 4 Free is simply not a full game. But it's so more than a demo. It deserves a grade, and since it outruns all advertainment, and develops The Sims franchise, only the highest grade is good enough.

You know, a lot of folks knock on SL and don't know what they are talking about. Itr was built as a platform for people to play at game design and as an attempt to take the WWW to a 3d level. There are schools that hold classes there, even if some of the more corporate presences have left. Many, many roleplaying areas for those who want to roleplay without having to try and grind levels like most MMORPGs require. And the number of non-adult areas far surpasses the adult ones, even when your ages are supposed to be 18 and up.

End of the world doesn't scare me - but you know, I'll be tempted to laugh when all the people being nasty about those who believe it will happen end up dying in all the earthquakes. Look, something is going to happen - you don't have all those heavenly bodies forming a line not affecting the planetary surface in some way. One causes all our tides, so all of them being lined up? The Mayans believe, or did at least, in ages [or worlds] and each one involved some changes as one ended and the next began. The end of the calender was probably leaving the work for the next generation of mathematicians.

And this was a really fun read, and a big raspberry at all those who were asking for it to be locked. :P

Are you serious? You think planetary alignment is supposed to do anything? That has happened dozens of times already. NOTHING HAPPENED. A simple understanding of how gravitation works would make it clear that absolutely nothing will happen. When civilization collapses, it will because of what humans did, not because of planetary alignments. The oil is due to start running out anytime before 2020, with 2012 being a reasonable estimate. At that point, civilization collapses and people eat each other to death in the streets. But it's not happening at some magic time and date.

And I'll be laughing when you get eaten to death in the streets. Better start preparing now! It's not too late to learn how to kill a man in over 30 different ways using only your thumbs, and other useful survival skills in the Apocalypse.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I cannot accept, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill because they pissed me off.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Mayans suddenly disappear off the face of humanity? Maybe the calender they wrote ended so abruptly at 2012 because they disappeared before they finished it. Then again I never paid attention in history class, so I may be getting some facts wrong.

Well, apparently there are more Mayan calenders than the one that ends in 2012, ones that go even into the 3000s. The "end of the world" date on this Mayan calender is just the end of that calender. That date, if I remember right, also happens to be Winter Equinox 2012.

Well, the world needs another Y2K to obsess over. Let 'em obsess.

Honestly, I think it's just WAY to early to really tell what S4 is going to offer. The onyl thing they can tell us is what they're planning on. But all that is going to be a big fat lie anyway, because they're going to do what they did for Sims 3. Promise a dump truck full of features and deliver enough features to comfortably fit into the trunk of a Geo Metro hatchback.
