I tend to use names of authors, models, and characters. I'll also look through magazines and see if I can find a name. Or I'll just look around my room when I'm very braindead and whatever word comes up I'll use in some variation.

I'm also obsessed with French names for my sims.

This thread is awesome. It's so nice to see what other people are doing about names.

I'm in generation 8 in the legacy challenge so names are starting to become few and far between. But I always have names that I use over and over.

Last Names
Champion
Dagger
Bain
Prescott
Lockhart
Browning

For first names I usually have one way before hand for either a boy or a girl, and the names are usually really distinct. Next up for a boy is Rudyard and for a girl is Aeryn. If I pick a very common name, there's a reason for it, usually I name the sim after a TV character, which I do a lot of the time.

Boys Names
Riley
Finn
Alex
Chance
Everrett
Emmett
Schyler
Tracer
Malcolm
Sam
Noah
Abraham
Lyndan
Lavelle
Milo
Micah

Girl's Names
Clear
Anya
Parker
Evie
Emma
Delilah
Stokely
McCoy
Tierney
Abby
Dita
Ace
Hayden
Calamity
Wisely
Loxley
Wilde

when thinking of uncommon names, I either switch the genders, make last names first names, think of a descriptive word I like, think of a character I like, think of a song I like, Or sometimes they just come to me out of nowhere.

I pretty much stick to semi-common names, but there is one family I made that followed a unique theme. The Citrus family- Fruites, Limone, Lyeme, Mandarine, and Kumquat. They got deleted with my last reinstall, though.

I know I mix and match names from TV shows actors I was previously watching that night. Sometimes I'll mix the characters in the show's name with an actor's name, such as:

Derrick Walsh. Cookies to everyone that know where that name came from. ;D

Also, I was cooking and my sister had mentioned okra, and I thought it would be a cool name. So I'm planning to make a clan of sisters named: Okra, Oatmeal and Honey O' Tarian. (last name was based of the word vegetarian)

Worcester Family
Adele
(children of Adele)
Salem
Juliet
Jared
Jesse
(children of Salem)
Evie
Cerise
Morgan
Rosalie
Wendy
Jasper

Broke Family
(children of Brandi, with three different husbands)
Criss
Amelia
Seth
Summer

Larson family (children of Jason and Nina)
April
May (I know, I'm really lame)

Burb family (children of John, with two different wives)
Avri
Claudia

Noire family
Vendetta
(children of Vendetta)
Amaryllis
Apollonia
Skyler

Those are the main ones. They mainly come from books, movies and TV: Seth and Summer are from the OC, which was on when Brandi had twins. I got Cerise from a bottle of Black Cherry Soda-- it was turned on the french side, and it said "Cerise Noire," which is where I got that surname from as well. Vendetta was from V for, Jasper and Rosalie were from the book Twilight, April and May were... well, duh; and Apollonia was from the Godfather.

I have a sim called "Grandmaster Ramrod". My neigbourhood is special.

But usually I either stick to classic English names, foreign names (depending on where the sim is from) or mythological names.

Hehe I found a funny method for getting names.
I thik everyone of you knows the spam which you get daily. So before I delete the spam I just look at the adressor's names and write them down. Then I mix the names or if they sound good I use them. You see, you can even made the useless things a bit useful.:D

I usually try to follow a theme when I create names. In my current legacy challenge the second generation is three children.

all norman's kids name start with O
Olivia
octiva
Opal

Nicole kids are named after states
Texas
Virigina
York (after New York)

Nathaniels Kids are all going to have bible names
John
Mark
and if the thrid one is a girl ruth, boy paul

Last names are:
Adams
Fairchild (Nicole husband was a prof from university she took his last name)
