This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Sims disappearing, hoodchecker "Subject does not exist"
As may already seem apparent by the title, I'm fairly certain my neighborhood of choice (Veronaville) has been corrupted beyond recovery. I'm devastated, and a bit confused, as I didn't do any of the Big No's, but I guess somewhere along the line I must have done something wonky (could I have maxed out the character count?) and now, here I am. I've never been faced with this kind of situation before, so I'm not totally certain what to do. I have a recent backup, from prior when I realized the corruption was taking place, but it's not ideal. Desperation here leads me to wishfully ask: is there really nothing I can do at this point?

I recognized the corruption in my 'hood when I loaded my neighborhood to play, created a family of six (breeders, serving the dual purpose of randomizing my genetic dice for the play session), and then went to play a family. When attempting to invite their relatives to a birthday party, some of them seemed to not exist anywhere. Upon further inspection, I've noticed six of my Sims (all children, all part of this larger legacy for this 'hood, all very recently played in my rotation) have completely disappeared without a trace. Their parents have no memory of them existing, their cousins' "Become best friends with [x]" wants became "Make a best friend" wants, they're nowhere on the family trees, etc. After running hoodchecker, it yields the errors that "Subject does not exist," with all six's GUIDs being those nonexistent subjects; in SimPE, they can't be found. Is this really it for those Sims? There's no way of recovering them, no way of restoring them (the backup here wouldn't be helpful even if it were usable; I only backup every rotation, RIP, and I think most of them were born after), no way of finding them? And, if that's the case, as I grimly assume that it is, what is my next step? I've heard that this is a case of "nuking the 'hood," but I don't know exactly what that entails. Do I uninstall, and reinstall, the game? Are my backups unusable now? What about other neighborhoods? Are they currently playable?

Maybe the saddest part is that when I click on the missing Sims' families in the Neighborhood view, their images are still there in the portrait, but they're not listed in the family Summary tab at all. My babies. ),:

Thank you all for your time and assistance; I'm happy to provide any specs or other information if it's necessary!

Ooh dear that sounds bad. If it's any (meagre, I know) comfort, if that's the version of Veronaville that came with the game, it comes pre-corrupted as all the EAxis neighbourhoods do so it might well be that you didn't do anything wrong but were unlucky.

I think the only thing you can do now is perhaps use an earlier back up and extract sims (with SimPE) you want to keep and restart the neighbourhood with a new copy - there are cleaned up copies of the EAxis neighbourhoods available from meetme2theriver. Someone round here will have the link for that (I don't play EAxis hoods) or you could Google for it.

I no longer come over to MTS very often but if you would like to ask me a question then you can find me on tumblr or my own site tflc. TFLC has an archive of all my CC downloads.
I'm here on tumblr and my site, tflc

Tarlia's clean hoods (meetmetotheriver)

Also this neighborhood, Viper Canyon, just for the bin sims from various EPs (apparently available only as a base hood, requires ALL EPs plus M&G).

Oh, that's just depressing.

Nuking the hood is as simple as deleting it, either from Documents or from in-game, and replacing that hood with a new one (or not??)Your backups still work, so don't worry about that either. This sounds like hood corruption, not game corruption, so your other hoods are safe as well.

To delete hoods in game.
On the Neighborhood selection screen you will see a little trash can in the right hand lower corner after just one click on Veronaville and it will delete Veronaville for you with no problems and this is the best way to do it for the game will know about it.

If you delete the N003 folder some times the game takes 2 or 3 times of starting up before it no longer sees it.

If you want to replay Veronaville then get the one RoxEllen1965 has the link for in post # 3 above or if you want to go even futher back and start at the beginning of Veronaville you may want to give my "The Beginning of Veronaville" hood a try http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=521868
