Default Self-sufficiency challenge
You've landed on a distant shore/your world has suffered a terrible apocalypse either way your neighbourhood is deserted. Only you, your partner and four other couples are here.
  • Create a new hood using empty templates and notownieregen, antiredundancy, etc.
  • Start by placing 7 empty 3x1 lots, 5 residential and 2 community, and creating 5 unique couples in CAS. Your couples can have any aspiration, personality, turn ons, hair colour, eye colour, skin colour or clothes you want.
  • Set one couple as your founding couple and have them buy the 2 community lots - these lots will be used as a cemetery/park and an owned business for your founding family.
  • Take note of what funds your founding couple have remaining. Move in your other four couples to their lots and use family funds to lower their funds to match your founding couple.
  • There are no maxis jobs, no school until you create one, no prison until you create one, no hospital until create one, and no social worker or orphanage until you create one.
  • Download the Simlogical School and Prison systems if you don’t already have them and the No Social Worker hack.

Your founding couple has an owned business from which they can sell anything that the other couples fish, farm or craft. Invite a member of your founding family over give them the goods and using a money transfer hack have your founding family pay the wholesale cost to the producing family. Your founding family can then keep some of the produce to feed their family and sell the remainder in their owned business. Nothing that is not farmed, fished, crafted, or made may be sold in any owned business.

Your four remaining main line lots may not open home or community lot businesses or be employed by other business. This restriction does not apply to secondary families that move out.

School

Once you feel your families can afford it designate one adult sim or couple to be school teachers. They must have enough money to build a residential school house and supply skilling equipment. This school is open the children only, does no grade work, costs $500 per child per season, and is voluntary.

Once every child in the neighbourhood has attended school for a full year then school becomes compulsory for children, grade work is started for children, skilling is offered for teens, and a fine of $250 is levelled at a household each time they fail to send all their children to school, on the third occasion all babies, toddlers and children in the household are removed to the orphanage.

Once every teen in the neighbourhood has attended school for a full year school becomes compulsory for children and teens, grade work is started for teens and a fine of $250 is levelled at a household each time they fail to send all their children and teens to school with the same punishment as before.

Hospital

Once you feel your families can afford it designate one adult sim or couple to be midwives/wise women. If you have free time they must have the Family Soup aspiration reward. They must have enough money to build a residential hospital with separate male and female wards.

Sick or pregnant sims can be moved to the hospital and pay $250 per season for medical care. If a pregnant sim doesn’t want the baby then the midwives will give it to the orphanage.

The hospital lot should receive $1000 from the tax income of the hood every season.

Orphanage

The orphanage needs to start existing as soon as one of your sim children needs relocating. A designated adult sim or couple should build a house capable of holding all the babies, toddlers and children they are responsible for and carrying out the minimum education compulsory in the neighbourhood.

The orphanage should only contain low cost skilling equipment, a bookshelf, easel, chess table, toddler toys, etc.

If families want to adopt a child then the orphanage will sell them one at:
  • $1000 for a child
  • $2000 for a toddler
  • $3000 for a baby
The orphanage should receive $1000 from the tax income of the hood every season.

Prison

The prison needs to start existing as soon as one of your sims offends regularly enough to be imprisoned. A designated adult sim or couple should build a house capable of holding all the prisoners confined.

Prisoners are held for a season for the first offence, two season for the second offence and three seasons for the third offence and executed on the fourth offence.

Any sim teen or up who is caught fighting or fined $1000 is imprisoned, consider fines levelled against the household as effecting all teen and over sims at the time of the fine. Failure to pay a fine means instant imprisonment.

Taxation and Fines

Every household should pay $100 per family member per season to the founding family. The money should be used to pay for the prison, hospital and orphanage and any upgrades required to the cemetery/park

Sims can be fined for breaking the lesser laws. These consist of:
  • Theft of newspapers or garden ornaments - $100
  • Kicking trashcans - $150
  • Failure to pay taxes, levelled on the household, - $200
  • Failing to send children or teens to compulsory school, levelled on the household - $250
Scoring

The goal is for the main lines of each of your original families to reach generation 10.
Every sim moved out must be played in the same rotation as the original families.
You get 1 point for every child born in game, 1 point for every sim who dies of old age, and 1 point for every $10,000 your neighbourhood is worth.
You lose 1000 points every time one of your original families dies out and 100 points every time you marry an NPC.
If you chose to take the additional challenge and have the loser of every fight die then you gain 100 points.
