Just extract the mesh. Instead of scanning your Sims folders for the mesh, open the mesh's hair file.

Try S3PE to look inside your package files and extract the meshes - the meshes you want are called 'GEOM' when you open the package, under the column called 'Tag', there will be four of them. Right click on each GEOM and choose 'Export' and 'To File' from the pop-up menu. The four GEOMs are the four 'levels of detail' (LODs) that each hair mesh needs (different resolutions for when the camera is scrolled in or out in-game). S3PE can be downloaded here: http://dino.drealm.info/den/denforu...php?topic=189.0

See HystericalParoxysm's tutorial on TS3 hair meshing in the Tutorials section if you need more info!

I exported the GEOM file by using s3pe, but I still don't know how to open a ‘.simgeom’ file...

Unfortunately I don't know anything about 3DS Max as I've never used it, but with Milkshape, which is what I use, there are third-party plugins to let you import simgeom files. I'm aware that a few creators here use 3DS Max but I don't know if there are simgeom plugins for it or if those creators are importing their meshes into Milkshape (or Blender, which there are also plugins for) first and then converting them into a format that 3DS Max can read. If you haven't found simgeom plugins for 3DS Max, I hope someone who uses it will come along and be able to advise!

But meanwhile, if you have Milkshape or Blender you can try using one of them to import and convert the mesh to something 3DS Max can read. For Milkshape, get the simgeom plugins here (Q-Mesh plugins): http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=357403 and for Blender, there's a simgeom plugin here but I don't know if it's up to date (I don't use Blender myself): http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=355471
