Right after unlocking the hospital and the junkyard I started getting more CTD
Hopefully I can work past them this time after I do a clean sweep and uninstall and install the game again. What fun, now to spend a few hours installing and re-patching the game. Good thing I have all the patches saved and don't have to hunt them up again.
It has to be something I have added that is still a problem after removing. I had been playing for months without any trouble, but I added a bunch of hair files and soon after was when I started getting the CTD issues. I've cleaned cache files and even broke down and added the 1.29 patch so I could update my Nraas mods. Oh well it's been a long time since I've had to uninstall and install again, guess I'm over due

Have you tried scanning your folders with Delphy's dashboard tool (http://www.modthesims.info/d/387006)? If it's a CC problem, that might be able to find it.

Yeah, and it did find a couple Sims 2 conversion it didn't like. Thanks for the suggestion though, it may help someone else that is having crashes.
I think I forgot to clear caches after I removed a few files I didn't like after I cleaned those out. ( I did clear them after removing the bad files but not after swapping out ones I didn't like) So I'm going to retest again after cleaning out my CC and updating mods, clear caches and try it again before I totally start over again.

What are the settings to allow NPC's to move in on their own accord? Sounds obvious, but I've mucked around with it all and the children I've moved out haven't been shacking up with anyone... So either im missing something, or I'm just impatient.
Edit: Sorry, should have mentioned I use Nraas SP.

Teal, look under the various romance options for settings to allow NPCs. Also, look under wherever pregnancy is managed and set that to allow NPCs as well.
My progress reports and pics:
Hey, baby, I'm a firefighter...
Yes, Jody maxed Athletic and Handiness and earned a fire station. The station built for this town had a bunch of unrelated skill items (easels, telescopes) that I removed before adding it to the town. I left the two work out machines (one strength, one cardio) plus the stereos and TV, because those are related to the career and are actually found in fire stations.
Jody's first fire is at Duncan andDiana's house, in the nursery. That's their firstborn, a son, Brooks.
Mystery is not letting up on the grandbaby issue.
The next day's fire is at Carver and Rebecca's. Mushi does not want!
So, the firefighter career goes slowly for Jody because he's already maxed the skills. So, he can't gain experience from earning skill points, only from handling the daily emergency and upgrading stuff at the fire station. He's fully upgraded the truck and alarm, and now spends his spare time at work upgrading the toilets and stereo.
When he got 20k in ponts, I changed his Loser trait to Brave, so no more annoying crying. He came in with the LTW to be Swimming in Cash, and he got that rather quickly, so I gave him the AMB rewards for earning profession experience and simoleons more quickly.
After the fire at his house, Mushi came by for a visit, and was invited in. He was happy to see all his old stuff never got sold, it's all right where he left it. Mushi ending up staying four or five days in the house before going back to Carver's house.
Rory has completed all the skill challenges for sculpture, including the one where his ice sculptures won't melt. So now he's immortalizing his children in ice. Here's ice Carys.
Next he adds ice Jody in his fire fighter outfit to the collection.
I didn't take pics, but Jody had to handle a fire at Bubba's house. The pop up said Bubba was just burning incense. Sure, Bubba, that was just incense you were burning...
Carys proposes to Owen.
Owen has the LTW to own a bunch of stolen stuff, because he has the klepto trait. However, Sims in this challenge don't get to indulge in hobbies that don't earn skills or make money. Sure, klepto can make money, but they are just as likely to steal some cheap piece of decor as they are to steal something of value, so it's not something I waste my time on. When he earned 10k in points, I changed his LTW to master mixologist, to max mixology and buy a bar. Because that's what he is working on.
Mushi orders a drink for his date.
Once Owen learned to make skill drinks, he'd always drink one before practicing at the bar. So he maxed Mixology fairly quickly. The bar has been bought.
Now I'm thinking about moving Carys and Owen to their own place and keeping Regan and Jody as the heirs.
Rory with grandson Brooks, Duncan and Diana's son. They are now expecting another, and Carver and Rebecca are expecting their third.
I'm pregnant now, are you happy?
Yes, Regan is expecting.
So, the Bubba saga is winding down. They had 10k in funds, so I edited the house for them, adding another bedroom with a second double bed. I also enlarged the kids' room so it can hold two cribs and two bunk beds. It's still a pretty crappy house, but it can now hold 8 Sims. This isn't helping Marissa to move in her husband, however, as the baby she just had, Dominique, makes 8 Sims in the house, and I'm not interested in modding for more than 8 in a house.
I may or may not do something to move her and her children, or just Albert Royale out of that house. I could just wait for Bubba and Barb to die off, they've been elders for awhile and can't last forever.
Owen, btw, is Bubba's son with Angel Fox.

Thanks, that's what I did, so I just think I'm incredibly impatient...
Sam managed to skill sculpting and had bought a consignment store, his wife (forgotten her name), will work towards a library. They've had their first son, Felix.

You know, none of my born in game Sims have moved in any NPCs with them. The cashiers and paparazzi that I've moved in and bought homes for are the ones that are moving in and knocking up other NPCs. I wouldn't think that would make a difference, but maybe it does.

Ive only had an NPC move in when one of my sims has started a job and then the game creates the boss and co-workers, it seems to be these that get homes. The others don't unless you do it yourself.

The NPCs that moved into Bubba's house were not employed in any jobs at the time they were moved in. They did all get jobs in Education once they were residents, but before that, they were various role Sims.

@calisims: I have now had to read your as the bubba turns story to my daughter and hubby because I was laughing so hard at it that they were curious... .. end result: daughter loaded up her Sims 2 and is now busily decorating a new house ...
@Klevkin: Foiled yet again. The patch came out.. and I've been waiting to reinstall my more than 8 sims mods so I can play this challenge again.. and I've been working on achieves and exploring my newest town, Barnacle Bay instead. .. sigh. I think I'm going into withdrawl! ARGH! Somehow I ended up having all the other points-bought towns before getting Barnacle Bay.. And being a bit of a pirate buff, I had to explore.
On a side note: does anyone know of a way to make worlds scroll, or see more of them? There are so many gorgeous worlds out there, I hate to remove some of my very favorite ones (that I have for challenges, etc) just so I can see all of the worlds. Also, does anyone know if the market registers can be cheated or edited to allow buying the out of country stuff? (not for this challenge, obviously.. just creating a lot for another household..)

Wyldhawke, if you find an answer to the scrolling worlds, let me know! I had to uninstall four the other day because they bumped Sunset Valley off the list.

Hi everyone! I like this challenge very much. My sim Mollin Santana moved to the blank Sunset Valley, She met with Leyton Sekemoto there, he was a paparazzi. When they married and moved to Mollin's home, Leyton invited his mother Ymi and his toddler son Sam. Mollin born from Leyton son named Zak. And they would have got:
Ymi Sekemoto - Bistro "Neptun" - only sushi and seafoods. (She had got it)
Leyton Sekemoto - Military Base.
Mollin Sekemoto - Fitness Center
Sam Sekemoto - The Art Gallery
Zak Sekemoto - Dance Club

Hi. Forgive me if I ask questions that are previously asked in other questions. I admit to not reading all 12 pages right now.
1. Are you folk deleting all of your starting cash, or are you allowing your sims to start out with whatever they had leftover after they bought the lot?
2. Without mausoleums, what happens to sims graves if they die on the lot you're not playing?

I chuckled at the not reading 12 pages part. If the pages mentioned weren't so much fun, I probably would have skipped reading them myself!
I can answer 1... I know I certainly didn't delete starting money. I needed every dang penny!
As for # 2 ... that I'm not sure of... but I'm pretty darn sure that there are mods that will "find" and bury any sim that died in your town into the mausoleum. Nraas is the one I'm thinking of, I know I saw that option .. I haven't USED it, but I did note it was there...
Off to get some actual playtime in.

double post, I know, but I had to reply.. this issue is small, but so very annoying. I have worlds I still want to test.. and I already have ones I can't see... I'm going to have to remove some until I can find a way around it.... besides buying a bigger darn monitor... and I'm so sim-addicted I've actually even though about that, yes... I had all of them able to be seen until this last patch.. and somehow they messed it up so that 4 of them disappeared right off the screen.

I have the same problem with world's not being visible in the scrolling list thingy. I even posted about it in Help and in WCIF to see if anyone knew of a solution, but no joy! :-( Do let me know if you find a solution! How many worlds do you guys have installed?
Sorry I've been away from the challenge for a bit, by the way. I am struggling to finish my Masters degree, and I got dumped by my boyfriend last week, totally out of the blue. As he bought me some of the Sims 3 games for Christmas, I haven't really felt like playing lately.... I'm sure I'll get back into it over time though, and I'm enjoyed reading about how you guys are getting on!

Thanks Klevkin.
Overdue for an update but can't remember what I last posted so i'll start from the beginning. Im only just figuring out photos but ive nearly finished this challenge (ish) so will try a proper blog for the next one. I combined this with random legacy. Spoilered as it's a looong post.
Founder Emily Lloyd-Evans - rolled for three children, join the military and have a farmer husband. She wanted to raise perfect children but this could only be achieved as far as toddler stage for obvious reasons. Her lifetime wish was to master logic and handiness so she worked hard at that as well as athletics and quickly obtained a military base where she went to work after the kids were born. She married a local papparazi called Altman Rush and they had Angelica, Benjamin and Calvin. To raise money for their home and ambitions, Emily worked hard at sculpting and soon had this mastered. She made it as a 'Top Gun' before she died.
Altman - I can't remember his lifetime wish as it was unachievable at that stage. He was already day one into being an elder when he married Emily so they used fertility treatment which luckily gave them triplets and then he worked hard at mastering fishing and gave the world a fishing spot.
Gen 2:
Benjamin wanted to learn a lot about a lot and like his sister had the lifetime wish of renaissance sim. He wanted to provide a supermarket so he quickly went to work learning how to grow fruit and veg. He also mastered painting, logic and guitar. He stayed on the lot until he died.
Calvin wanted to catch lots of perfect fish and present a private aquarium so he decided to become a scientist along the way in hopes of cloning perfect fish. He master gardening, fishing and handiness. After obtaining the science lab and joining that career he left for a home of his own.
Angelica was the heir of this generation and she rolled for a single parent with two children, to be a rock star, to perfect all skills and make homemade food only. Luckily she was able to use benjamin's fruit and veg to achieve the latter and she had no problem mastering lots of skills - she managed to master guitar, logic, gardening, fishing, painting, piano and drums! She didn't want a permanent partner and had the bright idea of turning her brother's imaginary friend into a real person who she could use to provide with her the children she wanted. So Cuddles Monroe was turned. Angelica built a theatre and she quickly achieved her dream of being a rock star. She gave birth to Donna and Emma.
Cuddles (Monroe) found it strange being a toy one minute and alive the next but he had always dreamed of being a professional author and so he mastered writing and built a bookstore as he loved to read before moving out with Calvin his best friend.
Gen 3:
Emma was like her mother and wanted to join the music industry as a hit movie composer. She also wanted to own her own nightclub where she and her friends could hang out with celebrities. So she mastered guitar and logic and discovered how to make her imaginary friend Patches real. She bumped into a big celeb called Sam Winchester in town and he helped her achieve her dream and she opened the Scorpion Club. Soon after she moved out and married Jarvis O'Neal and they had three children.
Patches (Doll) used to be a toy until one day she came alive thanks to Emma. I can't remember her lifetime wish but she mastered charisma and founded the city hall enabling the kids to study from home. She started a career in Journalism before moving out, marrying Kerry and having two kids.
Donna was the heir in this generation and she rolled for second chance relationship, to have five children, to live in luxury and have lots of parties! As Donna wanted lots of kids she wanted an experienced partner to help so she tracked down Angus O'Neal and broke up his marriage and quickly married him and had their first and only child. He was already an old guy and died a few days after the birth of Fiona - which was convenient for Donna who then found Sean Bean and quickly married him. They had George and two sets of twins together – Hermione and Ian, Kiera and Jennifer. Donna wanted to be a professional author so she set about mastering writing, along the way mastering charisma which enabled her to open the office building. She joined the business career and later mastered logic. The house was too full so she left for a retirement cottage with Sean when they became elders.
Gen 4:
George wanted to be a jack of all trades but didn’t really fancy any of the trades available in the world so he dug out his great-grandmother’s sculpting table and got to work. He decided to open a consignment store so he could see what other people were making and selling and to sell his sculptures for more money of course.
Hermione wanted to be a martial arts master after coming home from boarding school where she learnt judo. Unfortunately there were no other martial artists in her home town so she decided to open a stadium to invite artists from other areas to demonstrate their skills (working on earning enough money to get this)
Ian went to the boarding school of peace and love but didn’t really come home with many useful skills. After seeing his little sister open a criminal warehouse he decided that a police force was necessary in the town and quickly got to work mastering logic and athletics. He also mastered painting and is having a lot of fun seeing how much money they are worth when finished.
Jennifer was the evil little sister who was determined to create a criminal underworld in the town. So she set about mastering athletics and logic and opened a criminal warehouse for the evil sims in town to get together and get up to mischief. She joined the criminal career but quickly left home when she found out Ian was planning on creating a police force.
Kiera also went to boarding school and fell in love with recycling and making compost. To make the compost she needed to make food so she decided to learn all possible recipes and open a bistro in the process. This achieved she left home and moved in with Jennifer.
Fiona was the heir in this generation. Fed up with all the drab houses in town she wanted to be a architectural designer but her real lifetime wish was to be an illustrious author. She fell in love with Damon the pizza delivery boy who it turned out wanted to be a mixologist but she made him work part time for the cash. She needed to create a party of a lifetime which she did with a pool party and everyone in town turned up and had great fun. They only wanted one child together and they had Laurel. Damon mastered mixology but is still trying to earn enough to open up his own bar. She put her art skills to good use and opened an art gallery.
Gen 5:
Laurel was the next heir and being born into a wealthy family and so it was natural for her to want to be swimming in cash, a wish she obtained well before she was a young adult. She was good and a genius and so it was natural for her to open a hospital which she has already achieved. After seeing the quality, or lack of, men in the neighbourhood she wants to be a single parent but being an only child herself wants to have two children. She works hard to ensure that all her wishes are fulfilled. She is currently waiting to age up so she can become a doctor and have her children.
Lots achieved:
Military Base
Fishing Spot
Bookstore
Theatre
Supermarket
Science lab
Office building
Club (pool)
City Hall
Art Gallery
Consignment Store
Police Department
Criminal Warehouse
Bistro
Lots working on:
Bar (dive)
Stadium
Hospital

She is currently waiting to age up so she can become a doctor and have her children.

wolfsbayne, wow, you've really managed to power through this already!
I finally decided to take the plunge and start this challenge off. I made a male, Davin O'Hara (traits: couch potato, genius, bookworm, shy, neurotic; LTW: Professional Author) and set him to work gaining writing skill and money for the bookstore. I kept an eye out for the mail carrier, who in my luck turned out to be female. I've just moved Mimi in, to find out her traits (workaholic, bookworm, light sleeper, athletic, friendly) and LTW (Renaissance Sim). With any luck, that means I should have the founding generation unlock the bookstore and one other lot of my choice, which I'm still trying to decide on. What I do know is that, funds withstanding, I'm going to be sending the first few sims who achieve their lots are going to go on adventures to pick up the relevant skill items/fruits/fish.

Katya, I started with the bookstore too. To me, this makes the most sense since maxing out skills is the most basic need.
My mail carrier turned out to be male (same gender as my sim) but I stuck it out and after a while, he got replaced with a female one. So if anyone else gets unlucky with the genders of your NPCs, don't feel you have to start over. Just wait a while. Unless you have a mod that allows NPCs to be any age at all, the NPC will be replaced once they age out of the default age of the job.
Just a funny aside, because my sim was a writer and it didn't matter what the titles of his books were, I was giving them titles to relating to what was going on in the game. I have several "Kill the Mailman" and "I HATE the Mailman" books. I also have several books with titles like "Will I Be Alone Forever?" "Should I Just Go Ahead and Die?" and "Where are All the Women?"

katya - yeah, im spending several hours a day playing at the moment as im suffering health wise and not able to do much else.
I've also not stuck rigidly to the random legacy part of it. Really I shouldnt have had sims earning money for anything other than their careers but I don't think I would have achieved very much at all if I had done that. I might try it for the next one, im not sure yet.
