Default Ron Humble lives on my lot? What the ...?
After the Great Eye Glitch fiasco of 2015, I've been carefully creating a new hood. It took a couple of weeks to get all the buildings where I want them, and I'm creating new Sims. I'm in the process of creating teen townies.

What I usually do is make a 1x1 lot, plop the Sim there, try to wipe gossip memories, age the Sim down, and then make it a townie. Sometimes, if clothes are important, I change those, but usually, I don't. I know time is of the essence. I do not have a Ron Humble stay away mod anywhere, and I don't want to teen to get a computer. I know I have to work fast. I sweep all the items on the lot into the Sim's inventory, and off the Sim goes into the Townie pool. I've been successful until now.

Well, it must be because I have a playful and a little lazy Sim, but I had a great deal of trouble with one Sim. He just liked fooling around. Ron Humble kept showing up just as I was finishing up. Finally, after a few tries, I just finished him before I saw Ron show up and made my teen into a townie. Success! Or so I thought.

Only ... Ron must have shown up on the lot and I didn't see him. When I entered the lot again, I saw the panel for Ron on the lot. It disappeared quickly, but this game DOES know how to scare the crap out of me. I did not see Ron there, nor did I interact with him in any way. I know better. I quit without saving.

Just in case, I checked the main game folders for each EP/SP, which I already made read-only long before this. Those seem OK. The dates did not change. I got rid of the hood entirely. I did lose two new Sims (thanks a lot, Ron), but I put in a backup I created last night. While I still admit being lazy backing up the entire game every time I play, I do intend to backup the game at intervals, and individual hoods either every time or every other time I play them. I'm kind of glad I did it in this case. Losing two Sims I haven't played before is better than losing everything. I think the next time I make teen townies, I should save and backup the game before. Live and learn.

I'm wondering if I should insert the No Ron mod in there before I make teen townies, then take it out when I don't need it. I guess this is the mod? Or is there another one out there I don't know about?

http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...p?topic=11215.0

But can you simply insert/delete with this sort of mod? I don't mind Ron normally ... just not when I'm creating teen townies! I know some mods are dangerous if you take them out like that. Or am I missing a super-obvious solution here?

Now that my blood pressure is lowered ... I think ... back to recreating the adult Sim I lost when Ron decided to be a pain in the butt.

Not exactly related, but *whispers*his name is Rod Humble. Not Ron.

I might one day finish my Zanes Hollow project, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Until then, you can see what I'm up to on my Simblr!

Just place a new sim on the lot and let him drop off the computer and he will go away.

Rod is already on the lot and needs a active sim on the lot to finish up his work then you can put in the mod to stop him from coming around.

You should have just let him drop off the computer anyway and put it in a corner and just leave it alone if you don't want a teen to have it.

I don't have a no Humble mod, but I don't care if he shows up either, why so anxious about him showing up? You have to remember sims are on the lot before you see them. He was there as an off world loiterer. instead ignore dear Rod, in fact let him come and let him go. The computer doesn't matter and if it does use move objects to delete it, so long as it's not opened the sim gets no money for that.

My goodness! I was so upset by Rod's panel popping up, I called him Ron. Yup. Getting to be an old fart. So leaving the computer won't do a VBT if I move the teen off the lot and move someone else in? I do notice items don't vanish if I use a lot to make townies, and that we have to watch out not to leave anything belonging to a Sim if we move the Sim out.

I suppose I could just sell the computer, too, before I turn the adult into a teen. Just give the Sim the money. Duh. I found out when I did still another boneheaded move ages back that if you accidentally get rid of a computer and move a Sim on a new lot, Rod still shows up.

If I didn't want to make sure that Rod's panel didn't do something bad to my game, hood, or blood pressure (well, you folks can't help much on that!), I would just simply get rid of this post. Geesh. I didn't think Rod would make me THAT jittery, I'd fix the name in the OP, but I've been busted.

And while I've been busted, I should admit ... I was never sure if giving a teen that computer after aging down would cause the game to burp, hiccup or explode. (In my rather weak defense, I started making townies only last year or so. Talk about being a REALLY late bloomer there.) So I guess I could just be generous as well, and let the kid keep it, then?

You can all ways sell it or just delete it if it bothers you to much.

You can leave it in package mode (unopened) and give it away as a gift which is what I do.

I'm curious as to why you feel you need to rush?

I believe the 'rush' was to get the sim made and towniefied before Humble showed up.

Yes ... it almost sounds like some sort of stalker flick. You think that lot is empty ... well (cue suspenseful music) ... Rod is watching you!

Yup. My ignorance about the nature of that gift is showing. I wasn't sure if a teen should be getting it. Maybe it was for grown-ups only. Maybe it had some sort of deep secrets on it. Or porn. Or something. But if the kid could keep it without incident, that WOULD make life easier. Or I could just sell it if I was being mean or paranoid.

What's the problem with making the last Sim on the lot a townie while Rod Humble is on the lot? I honestly never heard of this being an issue. How does that make him a part of the household or really do anything? Not trying to sound snarky; actually asking.

I didn't take the comment as snarky.

I never had a problem with an adult townie getting the machine. But I wasn't sure if a teen should get it; if this was somehow so tied in with the adult stage that it messes up something once I aged the kid down and Rod shows up. It nice to know that is not the case.

It seems that Rod is one of those NPCs that can cause potential trouble if you do something stupid, so I like to be careful around him. And seeing the game consider him as a lot resident, even if the panel disappeared seconds later, was pretty shocking. One more thing I never saw before. I should be happy the panel DID disappear. If he remained as a lot resident, that COULD be troublesome.

My guess is that he remained after I townified the kid, and was indeed an off-world visitor, and since he was still on the empty lot, the game considered him a resident initially, then corrected itself. I was probably over-cautious replacing the hood with a back-up, but oh, well.

As I said if you delete the unopened computer with move objects, there is no money. Also why do you have to watch out that you leave no belongings, they wont do anything either. Sounds like you need to take some deep breaths over things gazania. As to good old Rod; just let him arrive, drop the present and leave, simple.

Rod's in the objects.package and since you said those were read-only, you're safe where he is concerned. That and, the danger from Rod and all the other universal NPCs is interacting with them outside of their regular functions. So if Rod just delivers his computer to a newly moved-in family, everything is fine, no matter how many adults, elders or teens are there.

Do be wary of Pescado's no Humble mod. It says in the hack descriptions that he won't come back even after the mod is removed, so you can't use it to just get rid of him temporarily.

That's what I thought. Even before reading the description, it didn't sound like it would be easily reversible. And as far as I know, there is no way to ban him from just one lot. He's a little too sneaky for the Blender. Thank you for the info! I've become very selective about adding new mods now, since I've seen that while a mod will fix something, sometimes, it also can change something you didn't want to be affected. I've seen that with a few mods I've added now.

I guess my teen should just get the free nifty computer, then. (Well, at least it would have been nifty back then. It would be quite obsolete now.) How many teens wouldn't want someone to give them one of those? Maybe I'll sell it if the kid is being a brat. Now that I think of it, teens can use the computer ordinarily. If it was some sort of super-secret adult object, the game would let you know.

Well, at least that's cleared up. It's possible that one other person out there wondered about ol' Rod. Maybe just one. One thing I learned working in retail in real life... rarely does something happen or someone say something that you haven't seen or heard before. I do wish I could have learned more about Rod without losing a bit of my dignity (what exists, anyway!), but maybe the responses were helpful to someone out there, or at least gave someone a good laugh. But if that panel ever shows up again (thought it oughtn't if I leave well enough alone), Pescado's mod to the rescue, I guess.

lol, someone doesn't like me. Disagreeing with both my posts but no other ones in this thread. I'm not sure what they disagree with me on the first one... that his name is Rod or that I shouldn't have pointed it out? Or maybe I shouldn't have made a post only to point it out? lol, oh well.

I would like to point out, though, that you can delete the unopened gift without moveobjects on. & doing so acts like it never existed on the lot in the first place. ie. TS3 isn't given to the household, and the household gains no computer/free simoleans.

Ignore the disagreeing troll. He's just found another plan of attack. Signs that he is afoot include disagreeing with everything or just selecting one person and disagreeing with him, or disagreeing with facts, like Rod Humble's name.

I usually just stick the computer in someone's inventory and forget it.

If I disagree with someone, I will explain why. Just sayin'.

Maybe someone really thought I was hurt about losing dignity? Err ... that was a joke. I'm at a point in my life where most of my dignity has gone out the window, anyway.

Don't worry Gazania, you're dignity bumped (ungracefully, of course) into mine, and they are happily wandering around (clumsily) together.
