Neighborhood water viewed from lot mod?
Hello everyone The title is kind of confusing I know, but here is my question:
When viewed from a lot, neighborhood water appears plain and ugly. On the other side, when viewed from a beach lot, it looks so much better (with the reflections, waves, etc...)
I want the water, when viewed from a normal lot, to appear as viewed from a beach lot.
I've been doing some research since I'm new to modding, but I'm guessing I'll need to fiddle around with the Materials (?) package and change the water shader script to the one extracted from BV? (Please correct me if I'm wrong)
The problem is, I don't really know much about shaders...Actually, I can't even get around finding the correct shader script from the material file
Any help (and I mean ANY) is appreciated

If someone knew how to do this, then they probably would have done it already.
Sometimes, you're just on your own, trying to do something which no one has done before.

Sorry for digging out this old thread but has anyone found a solution so far (2 years later)? The BV water looks really nice and using water surfaces in the hood isn't that perfect (especially if you have a beach lot)

Not sure if this is any help, but Niol enabled some shaders for use in lot pond water- the BV ocean shader is one.

I don't know if that is at all relevant to this or not!

Thanks, but this is for the lot pond only right? I would love to see the beach lot's neighborhood water everywhere, even in normal lots

This one changes the neighborhood water, as well as the water that appears in lots. However, when I choose the reflective one, the water outside of a lot just disappears. There's just a blue texture on the ground.

EDIT: Voeille made a mod that does just that.
In case anyone is still hunting for a solution to this, I would suggest perhaps changing the normal lot to a beach lot via Lot Adjuster. It won't permanently change all lots to have the water's edge with shaders, and it requires the Bon Voyage expansion pack (instead of a rewritten definition of shaders which might even be base game compatible?).
(Back up the neighborhood.) Open Lot Adjuster, find your neighborhood, find your lot, click on advanced, and tick "Beach Lot" checkbox. You might also want to tick "Place Portals Manually" box, in case Lot Adjuster unnecessarily adds beach portals to the lot. Save changes and exit, and you're done.
While the good sides to this are that the lot now has the BV shaders applied to the ocean (no matter how far the water is from the lot), the following are the things you should consider before modifying your lot:

While the good sides to this are that the lot now has the BV shaders applied to the ocean (no matter how far the water is from the lot), the following are the things you should consider before modifying your lot:
- Around 20 tiles counting from the back of the lot towards the road will be considered as a beach. This means that 12 far back (in depth) tiles will have a ground interaction "Get In" (the ocean), while the remaining 8 will have normal beach interactions (build a sandcastle, sunbathe...). While the beach interactions don't represent an issue, the "Get In" interaction makes it impossible to make a Sim route to that part of the lot, unless you build a foundation or a deck before converting the lot in Lot Adjuster. (Just clicking on the "Get In" interaction will result in a locomotion error/jump bug.)
- The above dimensions should be paid very close attention to when it comes to fiddling around with small lots.
- It will be impossible to build a wall, foundation, deck, etc., or to place objects which are normally not permitted for placement on beaches, on that "beach" area anymore. To build on that area again, convert your lot back to a regular lot by unticking "Beach Lot" in Lot Adjuster.
- You won't be able to move your lot around the neighborhood (while it's a "beach lot") using the in-game Move Lot tool.
