This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default another new computer problem with custom neighborhoods
I was trying to fix this myself while wringing my hands over my hair/makeup issue, but I've given up. Since I put UC on my new computer, a lot of my custom hoods don't show up. There's no rhyme or reason to it, either. For example, one of Marka's hoods, Beginning of Strangetown shows up, but none of his others. Bay Flats, which I hadn't played yet, shows up, but Elsewhere, Polgannon, and a myriad of others don't. I've gone through all the folders and removed any neighborhood manager files, but still, nothing. Any ideas?

It sounds like you are running into the windows protection problem.

You need to make sure your folder for UC is not write protected or after the first time running you can not add to or take away from it in My Doc.

Thanks for answering! I'm really bummed about not being able to access your beginning hoods anymore because I love them. How do I do what you are talking about? And, can I still add and take away from my downloads folder?

In My Doc where you have UC folder just right click on it and chose Properties and look down at Attributes if Read-only is checked then un-check it and click apply and chose all files and folder option.

Sorry for the double post. My read only was already unchecked and there was no option for all files and folders on that screen or anywhere else I could find.

You may need to set read only then restart computer then unset read only and restart your computer.

You may need to do the whole thing in that follow this.

1. Disconnect from the internet then turn off "User Account Control". *(Or UAC.)
2. Restart your computer.
3. Check after restart that UAC is turned off.
4. Change Program folder for UC to read and write.
5. Some times it takes a restart for this to take effect.
6. Change My Doc. for UC to read and write.
7. Some times it takes a restart for this to take effect.
8. Now try your mods and such and if they work then restart your computer.
9. Check again that mods and such are working, if so then turn back on UAC.

Sooo, after a few days of banging my head against a wall and crying, I gave up and called Microsoft. This was a mistake; never do it. The read-only thing on the documents folder is default and absolutely cannot be changed. The sweet woman with the extremely thick Indian accent put a program on my computer that was supposed to fix the problem. It took forever. Maybe it fixed some things, maybe it didn't. I'll likely never know. I do know that it didn't fix my hood problem. So, unless someone else has any ideas, I guess I'm just stuck.

Curse windows 10 and every one associated with it's development.

Thanks, Marka, for your help, though. You tried, God bless you, and I ALWAYS appreciate what you've done for me. I've lost a bunch of hoods and can't play your Beginnings of hood series (that breaks my heart).

Did you have the Store Edition patch on your last computer? If so then this could be why your old neighbourhoods don't show up. The game views them as having been created with a different gameversion, so they will not display in the neighbourhood screen. This would explain why hoods you have played don't show, but unplayed hoods do.

Not sure if it's possible to add the store edition patch to UC; if not then you'd have to go back to the disc install and store patch to play those neighbourhoods. Otherwise, download fresh versions of the custom neighbourhoods and start over.

Thanks, Simsample. Microsoft's intervention did everything but brick my computer. I've had to do a restore. And I also have feelers out for someone to tell me the version of windows 7 I need to buy to put on the computer. I'm kind of a computer stupie, and there are many, many versions of windows 7 out there. On Amazon they range from 69 bucks to 230. I don't know why I went to Amazon to check; after all they are the ones who sent me a windows 10 when I ordered a windows 7.

I did have store edition on my old computer, but I deleted every sims thing I could find before I installed UC. And I could access all my downloaded hoods on it. And I do have a couple on here, as well. So, IF I can ever get this OS to work, I will try downloading them again. Thank you for your suggestion.

smorbie1 - I suggest asking somebody to explain the differences between the Windows 7 versions to you (there are not that many); get what you need and can afford. Sorry 10 is not working for you, I am having a great relationship with it myself.

The store edition - it can be forced, yes, but it creates problems @simsample. We discussed it here when the creator of a new hood had to remove hers because it did not show up for testing players.http://modthesims.info/showthread.p...25#startcomment. I also ran into somebody with this problem in real life once before.

So, @smorbie1, I do wonder if those previous hoods my not have a similar problem - as far as I can see, the only reason hoods do not show up has to do with the store edition. Especially since it seems to me that unplayed hoods do show up. In that case, it still will not show on Windows 7.

Oopsie, sent you my reply in pm form, but will summarize for the record in case someone else finds this helpful someday.

I deleted the store edition from my old computer when I deleted my disc version of the game. When my computer came, I installed UC directly from my account on Origin, and ran it first without adding any of my backups. It ran, of course. My backup also ran, and some of the hoods showed up, some didn't I had played some of them, but others I had never opened. So, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

I'll try Simsample's suggestion if my computer ever finishes doing what it's doing now. Thanks again, and fingers crossed!

@smorbie1 I had a similar problem years ago when trying to share neighbourhoods with my daughter; games I made or played on my computer didn't show up on hers- it turned out that she had one of the EP patches missing. So if you did have the store patch installed previously, then anything you played since then won't show up on UC, but anything you created or played prior to the store patch will work fine.
