Unfortunately I don't know anything about 3DS Max as I've never used it, but with Milkshape, which is what I use, there are third-party plugins to let you import simgeom files. I'm aware that a few creators here use 3DS Max but I don't know if there are simgeom plugins for it or if those creators are importing their meshes into Milkshape (or Blender, which there are also plugins for) first and then converting them into a format that 3DS Max can read. If you haven't found simgeom plugins for 3DS Max, I hope someone who uses it will come along and be able to advise!
But meanwhile, if you have Milkshape or Blender you can try using one of them to import and convert the mesh to something 3DS Max can read. For Milkshape, get the simgeom plugins here (Q-Mesh plugins):
