I was just playing my sims 3 pets game and a burglar came to my house...
The dog didn't do anything... does any of you know how to get a dog to chase away burglars??? do I have to teach them with tricks??

Did you ask the dog, to guard your house?

You're not the only one that has seen this. My dog always spawns a burglar, but the house is big...so his patrol is long, he rarely sees the burglar before he sets off my alarm, and then he does nothing but bark. Clicking on the burglar spawns no special options.

I don't have an aggressive dog, part of me thinks aggressive dogs might have more interactions in this...He is Loyal though, which I would think have an affect on it somewhat.

I had this issue a few times, myself. Dog was guarding and just watched the burglar enter the home. This happened twice. Last night while playing, he at least barked at the burglar but couldn't catch him due to narrow spaces and routing/path issues but he did scare the intruder away before he entered the house. Finally, later in my play-through (and with a more spacious front lot), he managed to actually catch the burglar! I think a lot has to do with how aggressive they are. Prior to that night's guard watch, I had praised him for his aggressiveness and he has the aggressive trait (trained).

And yeah, the dog's name is Dog. That's what he gets when his owner is an absent-minded, eccentric genius. The cat's name is Fluffykins, of course.

When I clicked on the burglar for my dog, all I got were "friendly" interactions. Gaaaahh...... Then the burgler beat up the cop and got away! Doh.

If it makes you feel any better, cats are useless with burglars too

And babysitters are useless. I had a dog, a kitten and a babysitter all just standing there watching the burglar. The kitten appeared to be the smartest of the three.

LOL IA I had my self sim and my cat in a house and had the cat guard the house, she just let the burglar pass right by :D. I kept clicking her and trying to click attack or something on the burglar but no, she was completely useless. The next day I adopted (well CAS and moved in) an aggressive dog! Haven't had any burglars yet, but I hope he does his job!!!

I found out that the dogs have to be aggressive to really protect the house. If they are though they'll bark at everything and even chase off the paper-kid. Not that it isn't funny.
But the burglar didn't even get past the porch with the dog out front.

not indorsed by Hypno toad... all hail Hypno toad @_@

Ha! Given that we can't cancel news delivery anymore, (we can call and cancel it, but it keeps coming) it might be a useful thing!

Actually, my lazy cat was more useful than my aggressive, loyal dog. The dog was guarding the house as well as the cat, and the dog sat there while the burglar sneaked up. Then the cat ran up, the burglar freaked and ran away. Maybe we should be using guard cats... >_>''

^^...dafuq did I just read?...

Ahem. Anyhoodle.
I had a Zombie Apocalypse challenge game where the family 'adopted' two large dogs. The female (Lady) was a Hunter, and the male (Mav) was Genius and Loyal. I set both to Guard the house with Lady inside, and Mav in his doghouse outside by the front door, but only Mav reacted the one time a burglar showed up.

Maybe it has to do with game lag and/or dog positioning? I feel like this should be tested.

I have no idea but I know cats can attack sims no matter if there kitten or what.. Not sure if it's with burglars though. Next time my burglar comes she gonna get her ass kicked double time! By 1 sim and maybe 2 cats! >:3 Eh but its worth trying! Not sure if it's with dogs though. Gonna get my dog back from the adopt place so ya.

I don't do comics and books for a hobby, I do them for fun.
A user will post when he/she wants to.
Nothing is normal in my family, Not even in games.

I had a sim invite a friend to stay the night and when the burgular rocked up her friend jumped up out of bed and beat up the burgular! It was hysterical, but I don't know what trait a sim has to have to react that way - the family of the house just slept through it or freaked out. Can sims have the aggressive trait?

It's the 'brave' trait that enables sims to beat up burglars. They can also put out house fires without being stupid about it and burning to death in the process, which is useful. There's also a hidden trait unlocked when a sim gets to a certain point in the Law Enforcement career where they can beat up burglars regardless of their other traits, which is also hereditary.

I have three dogs , non of them with the aggressive trait

They all want to guard the house because I praised them every time they did it ... so now every time a burglar appears they all run over and start barking at her (my burglars are always female ?)
Burglars are lucky to get four steps onto my lot lately
