Default How long do you let your Sims holiday?
I never let my sims stay on holiday for long - BV didn't bring fun things to do in the three islands to stay for seven days, so my sims usually stay for 3 nights or 4 nights, depending on how many sims there are and what I want to do. :')

How long do you let your sims go on holidays for?

Yeah, staying on a holiday for too long can get boring, especially since EA never provided official downloadable content to add to BV. So I usually just pick the least amount of days.

I only go for three days because that's about as long as I can play one family at once, generally. However, with large family vacations and lots of money in the bank, with a vacation home - a couple of times I've thought about extending it so that the parents and offspring and extended family members could all have their own adventures - send the parents on a date, the teens and kids exploring to the secret lots or whatever, granny getting to know the locals and having a last fling, that sort of thing.

The trouble is that the logical place to do that is Drama Acres, where I have the huge families and the accumulated cash, but I also have a former vacation townie who tends to turn back into a teen while other people are on vacation. So I'm having to check back in with him after every session, and constantly making backups in case I need to revert to fix him, which sucks a lot of the fun out of it.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

It really varies. Sims that have their own vacation home get to stay for the seven days, as they tend to have more things to do.

Though, the majority of my Sims can't even afford a vacation, so it's rare that most get to travel...outside of the neighborhood. But, if they can find a way to go, say for a honeymoon or just a weekend getaway, it's usually just for 3 days.

I also have a few vacation spots in the neighborhood (cheap motel, high-end hotels/spa, campground). So, those lots are a bit more affordable for some, and get used a lot more often.

Yup - three days and then I'm bored. Home time.

I no longer come over to MTS very often but if you would like to ask me a question then you can find me on tumblr or my own site tflc. TFLC has an archive of all my CC downloads.

Like most as said above I go for the minimum but mostly so if they do again there's more to do. I don't try to do everything in one go. This is especially useful for my sons who want to travel the 'world'

Uh oh! My social bar is low - that's why I posted today.

About four days, which should be plenty of time for my Sims to blow off steam. After I'm done all the tours and visited all the community lots, I still have two or three more days to kill, if I'm going on a seven-day vacation. Man, I'd rather just send them home and burn them all in their kitchen for the fun of it. Sorry, I guess you guys want to stay on vacation to avoid death?

It varies. I only let my sims do the things that they roll the wants to do, or that they do autonomously, or things that are required to fill their needs, so that means that I don't power through all of the vacation activities in a day or two and then get bored. So my sims have vacations of varying lengths, depending on why they're abroad, how much money they have, what other commitments they have and how much they seem to be enjoying themselves. So far I've had vacations that ranged from one night (Peter & Samantha Ottomas went to Takemizu Village to attend their daughter Victoria's wedding to William Goth (son of Cassandra Goth & Don Lothario). Cassandra Dreamer also went over for the wedding, along with her husband Darren and her two half-alien twins Sebastian and Goth and her "adopted daughter" Stella (actually Bella's daughter by alien abduction, was left on the Goth's doorstep as a baby). As it was summer and the teens were off school they stayed for 4 nights and did a lot of exploring as well as going to the wedding. Alexander Goth and his wife Vanessa (a former Takemizu Village local) went as well, but they stayed in a different hotel and treated the stay like a belated honeymoon - which they ended early after 2 nights as Vanessa was pregnant. The happy couple William and Victoria were at university there (using 2 mods that allow university in the main 'hood non-uni subhoods) so they stayed for 6 nights - the last three years of university, as they both did their first year at the community college in Pleasantview. Well, they would've stayed for 6 nights - Victoria returned home early due to an unexpected but very welcome pregnancy, but William wants to graduate university before he returns home.

I have a mod that extends the duration of vacation options. The shortest I have is 7 days. Since the duration doesn't affect flight cost, only living cost, I go for a long duration and send them home when they can't afford to stay, or I'm tired of playing them at their vacation. I won't often stay more than 7 days, but I like deciding when I'm there, rather than in advance.

I know BV tends to be considered boring, but I love it so much. I never run out of things to do, and I love taking my Sims out for a break from their normal lives. Change scenery, and change daily activities. My favorite is twikki islands, because beaches are fun with all kinds of Sims.

Like most of the other people here, I tend to go for only 3 nights. I don't really run out of things to do, just money for my Sims to spend. I started making vacations fun for me and my Sims by letting them do what they want on their vacations instead of getting all of the vacation sticker things. I also tend to go to Twikkii Island more because it has a beach and I don't know a single person who doesn't love the beach.

I do it depending on the richness of the people going; in pleasantview when don lothario was quite poor like he is at the beginning of the game and he wanted to go to three lakes with his teen son they saved up so they could comfortably afford 3 days and 2 nights so that's what I did. when don married a fairly rich girl they went for a 7 day 6 night honeymoon to twikkii.

I do agree the holidays can be a little boring and after purchase of the game I have to say I was a little disappointed you can't see the sims go on tours (but then again I had that same disappointment when I found out you couldn't see them at their job!) but they are a great way to build up relationships. the reason don and his son jules went to three lakes was to bond after jules' mother died, and don and jules became enemies following her death. but doing activities together on holiday built up their relationship pretty fast. plus the hotels are quite nice to use as a temporary home, even if they usually only have a bookcase and tv in terms of entertainment.

Depends on why I'm sending them. If, like the Pleasants or Grunts, the main reason is for them to get on civil terms, then I tend to go for a long vacation. I can always cut it short if I get them to the point of not beating each other up randomly on community lots before the seven days are up. If it's the sort of sim, usually knowledge, who's going to want to get all the memories, then I go for a mid-length vacation, because there's no guarantee that every single thing won't go wrong and they won't spend half of every day recovering from bad tours, bad wishes, etc. If it's just a honeymoon, I usually pick the short option, the better to get them back home and producing babies.

Do you have a link to the mod? Sometimes I want my sims to go for longer than they're allowed and it's a PITA to have to open it up in SimPE.

I'm afraid not. It's been years since I got it, and I don't even know where from. I want to say TSR, but I can't seem to find it. I'd make a WCIF I'll look for it when I have time, but I'm sure someone out there already knows.

I worked hard on my BV vacation sites to provide for them interesting sites to visit and custom content not found elsewhere in my game. Most of boring hotels and places to visit I tore down. I give max vacation time but stay only as long as I like. What is the point of shorter days when you can leave any time? I cheat for money and seldom do I play an unwealthy house. So my sims if they vacation they want reward at the end - that you get when you come back; those little extra boosts. To spread those around my sims often take all their friends on vacation (to keep from glitching take taxi if walk then some get left behind or game crash). So if they vacation they are kept very busy sightseeing, digging for treasure maps talking to tale weavers or seeing how sashcauch is doing, and if honeymoon I have some sexy tropical sites with wham-bam-thankyou-mam toys. So they do not get bored. Mostly because I like my sims they are not the game made characters but my fay with projected personalities like a story. Still I don't take them on vacation often it is rare treat.

I too was curious and went searching for a mod to extend the days. Found this one http://www.sims2workshop.com/index....d&threadID=2646. Looks like it was last updated in March of this year too.

Will be trying it out when I get a chance.

Note: Read the instructions carefully.

You're awesome! Thank you for the link :-) That would be so useful for me as, due to the combination of sending sims to university in vacation destinations and having the community time mod I sometimes really struggle to get sims graduated within the 7 days. I hope that it works!

I must be in the minority here. I usually send my Sims on vacations for anywhere from 5 to 7 days, if their funds allow it. Reasons include:

• More time to make some new friends out of the locals and other vacationers.
• More days on vacation = more days that my Sims aren't growing any older yet can continue to fulfill Wants and rack up a heap of Aspiration points.
• More time to rack up all the vacation mementos for that destination.
• More time to dig for treasure. One of my lots on Hoar Mountain (my homemade Mountain destination) is a "Native American archaeology dig site" with nothing but little fenced-off digging areas, so Sims can dig without trashing each other's Environment scores. You might be surprised at how many ancient Native American civilizations buried water pipes on remote mountainsides, some pipes of which are still in use....
• If at any destination with at least one lot with a bookshelf on it, more time for all of my Sims to learn Parenting, Fire Safety, Anger Management and all those other useful skills.
• If on Twikki Island (or any homemade destination with a beach lot), more goodies from combing the beach.
• If at Three Lakes (or any homemade destination with a fishable pond or a lake), more time to catch more fish.
• If at Takemizu Village (or a homemade Far East neighborhood), more time to catch that pesky ninja.
• If at Twikki Island or a homemade Island destination with fire dancers, more time for all of my Sims to learn fire dancing and pick up some extra cash with public performances.
• If at any of the three Maxis destinations, more time to find the secret lot (so I can take my time screwing around).
• If at any of my homemade destinations, I can spend time going back to the neighborhood and turning any empty lots into something fun or interesting for my vacationing Sims. Don't like your hairstyle? Presto! Hoar Mountain now has a barber shop! Want to play some games? Presto! Shi Xiaopan Forest now has a mahjong casino with a video game arcade, which kind of grates against the whole "little Chinese fishing village nestled in a thick bamboo forest" vibe, but oh well....

And of course, if my Sims own a vacation home or if they're staying at a free campsite (now available at Three Lakes and at my homemade Mountain, Island and Far East destinations), then they don't have to pay for hotel rooms every day, which means that they won't run out of money (unless they really, really binge on buying jewelry and souvenirs, that is).

I didn't play BV a lot due to the maddening dances and gestures, but I built a winter home and it turned out so well I took a couple of young newly weds for a four day break. It snowed and they had great fun loafing in front of the fire, building snowmen and throwing snowballs. I had forgotten that snow could be fun as my neighbourhood is set on the south coast so sunny most of the time.

Speaking of holidays. Do sims ever get a tan on the beach instead of a burn? I've never not got burned, even when they slather themselves in suntan lotion and only lie down for a short time.

Yes, they can get tanned :-) My Angela Pleasant got a tan when she sunbathed on the beach at Twikkii Island just after (or was it just before, I can't remember?!) her wedding to Dustin Broke. Her skin went pretty dark for a while but it went back to normal a day or two after they'd returned home :-)
