Blender is awesome for unwrapping uv's, much better then LithUnwrap (imo) but not as good as RoadKill ...
• you first have to mark your seems in edit mode (select the vertices you want marked, press [CTRL+E] and hit <Mark as seam>
• in UV/Image Editor you press [E] to unwrap, [P] to pin your island borders, [CTRL+V] to relax the vertices,,,
All Transform functions remains the same as in edit mode (eg. translation, rotation and scale) also Proportional editing works the same in UV mode...
