This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default No Neighborhoods--at all.
I've just recently had to have my hard drive wiped, so I've reinstalled Sims 2 on my computer. I have a new disc, as I lost the code for the old one. I installed the game and went in to find that there are no neighborhoods! And what's more, when I go to create a custom one, there are no templates to choose from! I've looked and the neighborhood and template files are indeed on the computer, they just seem to get lost somewhere between the EA games folder and the actual game. I've already tried reinstalling, and installing only the base game (instead of my many EPs). What now?

Did you patch as you install each.

Install the base game and patch it, then install NL and patch it, then install Pets and patch it and this should take care of it.

What if you look in C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoodss? Are the right folders there? If so copy those to your C:\Users\Lunie\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods

The folders are in the EA Games/Neighborhoods folder already. Where are the patches?

Did delete the ones you see in the My Documents folder but not in the game and copy the ones from the program files in to replace them? If a neighborhood gets corrupted in a certain way it won't show up. I don't know what would cause all your neighborhoods to corrupt simultaneously right off the bat (bad install? But that shouldn't happen twice in a row), but if that's what happened new copies are all you can do. You could also download a fan-made neighborhood and new templates and see if they show up when the originals don't; though I don't know exactly how to proceed from there. It would be new information, anyway.

If that doesn't work - I know with your hard drive wiped none of the old installation should be hanging around, but maybe the wiping didn't go as deep as you thought it did? With the FAQ instructions about regedit in hand, I suggest you poke in the deep recesses of the system files. You can hardly make it any worse, after all.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

Also, neighborhoods will not show up unless you have the required EPs and SPs. The main problem is often the Store Edition, which EA updated automatically for a while. If your neighborhoods were created with an updated Store Edition, they won't run without it.

Something else that should probably be added...there are two icons to click on, the double deluxe one and the store edition one. When I click the double deluxe, it says "You are running the wrong version, please run The Sims? 2 Double Deluxe instead." When I click the other, it gives me the regular launcher, then an empty pop-up to which I must click "Yes", then the game sans neighborhoods.

Ok what disk do you have because up in your org. post it shows you have Original, Nightlife, Pets, none of these should have the Store Edition on it and if they do you can elect not to install the Store Edition,

In post 11 you say you have The Sims 2 Double Deluxe if so and it has the Store Edition on it you can elect not to install the Store Edition.

So my input now is uninstall every thing starting with your last EP/SP and work your way down, then restart your computer and reinstall just the DD with out the Store Edition and see how it runs, if it runs then you can reinstall the other EP/SP 1 at a time and make sure it runs.

Patch all your stand alone EP's and there is one SP that has a patch (Family Fun Stuff) as you install them.

ADD: If you still have copies of your old hoods that will not play now and want to play them again then will need to get the Fun with Pets tri pack and install the Store Edition for it is the last one you can get your hands on.

It's not clear whether you are trying to open existing neighborhoods which require the latest version of the Store Edition (which is not included with Double Deluxe - that's an earlier version), or whether you are trying to regenerate the shipped neighborhoods.

Move your entire Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder to your desktop. Then, run the game. Do you see neighborhoods? That will at least tell us whether the game is working or not.

You should also consider bypassing the launcher. It is useless and can cause problems.

There should be no need to uninstall and reinstall everything until we know the answer to what happens when the game is allowed to generate a new save game.

Oookay. I've just been trying to get the Maxis neighborhoods to show. The game runs fine, but it shows the create neighborhood button rather than Pleasantview, Strangetown, and Veronaville. And when I click the button there are no SC4 templates to choose from to create a neighborhood, so I can't. I haven't put in my own custom neighborhoods yet. I tried what Mootilda suggested and it didn't work. Neither did simply reinstalling with the very bare minimum, just the base with no Store Edition in sight.

Your game may be linked to the wrong Documents folder for Win 7 has 2 of them.

So this is what I think may help you, look for both the Documents folder and look in both "The Sims 2" folder and see which one has the 3 Base Game hoods in it, N001, N002 and N003.
If one has the hoods in it then go to the one that don't have the hoods in it and delete "The Sims 2" folder and copy and paste the one that does to this one and start up your game and see if it works.

This is the right place for it to be.
C:\Users\(your computers name)\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2

I have the 2nd one hidden and I don't remember the path to it.

Both of them have the hood folders. They just seem to get lost somewhere between folder and game.

After you delete the folder try and start up the game and see what happens.

If it is the same then I think you have a operating system problem and not a game problem.

There is one more option you may try, disconnect from the internet and then turn off you anti-virus program and then try and start up your game.
(You may need to delete the folders again before you start it up.)

If the above does not work then I'm sorry to say but you may have a bad install of your operating system and may need to redo it because windows 7 works just fine for me using any combo of game set up I have, I have all 4 tri packs and I also have all the stand alone CD and DVD "The Sims 2" plus all EP/SP's EA put out.

I have never had any problem with windows 7 and the game.

ADD: I just thought of this, you may need to "Restore Default Location" of your My Documents folder so you could try this also.
