Default I need SERIOUS Face Mask Help!!!!
I am DESPERATELYYYY trying to learn how to do face masks so I can make celeb sims. Trying to do them purely in CAS is a daughting task!! So, i've recently been searching around on how to make facial masks, I have found some good stuff but I found this tutorial today and I want to know if this is what you do after your mask is made or if it's what you do to start/make your mask...PLEASE HELP!!!....

This is how the tutorial begins..there is really no introduction..

1. Duplicate each layer (except bg) to make white out layers. On each, go to Hue/Saturation and set lightness to 100. This will turn the image completely white. Underneath each white layer, create a new layer and fill with black. Merge the white on top of black. In the image here, you will see I have two layers, one for the overlay alpha. And the second for the color channel in the mask file.

2. Hide all your alpha whiteouts. Again, duplicate each layer, this time bg too. Hide everything but duplicates. Merge them all together. So you now have a complete picture for your overlay..

Hmm, looking at that tutorial, I find it rather hard to understand - don't know if it's just me! - but there is a good easy to follow face overlay tutorial here by daluved1: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php...c_Face_Overlays .

There's also an older but good one by wintermuteai1 on making custom eyes/contacts - the methods shown there apply to face masks as well, in fact it was how I learned to make both contacts and face masks: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=358457 . Hope those help!

Default I need SERIOUS Face Mask HELPPPP!!!
OK, so i've been working on these face masks everyday constantly and am getting no where...I think I have figured out how to put them together (sort of) but am still confused about alpha channels and their importance. Also, whenever I get my mask up when I try to upload it I get nothing....my "mask screen" is only half way there && nothing shows up...PLEASE HELP!!

These are the tutorials i've been using. I've tried to follow them step-by-step && nothing is working for me!

...If possible I would really love real step-by-step instructions as far as my layering/alphas && w/e else. I think that's the part that's hard for me to understand..

You don't need two separate threads on this problem. Merged.

oK....I am still waiting on some help!! Lol. But I have been trying to get it right. I followed this tutorial:

http://www.simswiki.info/wiki.php?t...c_Face_Overlays

Exactly. I got everything working in Photoshop, did my Overlay && My mask, but i'm still having the same problem as before. Only half of my Overlay && Mask show up...what is wrong?

I've got the exact same problem someone care to explain/write this tutorial from rejected sims a bit more? because I don't understand her instructions well since they're not really step by step for beginners like myself

It looks like you haven't fixed up the alpha. The alpha controls which parts are visible - white is visible, black is invisible, grey is partially visible. So if the upper part has a black alpha then it won't show up.

thanks. though I'm a bit new to this and I'm not really sure how to work with alpha's and that stuff, so could you maybe explain this step by step?

I'm not sure exactly how it works for makeup, but I take it you know where the layer palette is in Photoshop? One of the other tabs on that section is Channels; one of your textures will have four channels in that window rather than the usual three. The fourth channel is the alpha; select it by clicking it, then paint on it as you normally would.
