How many water planes is too many?
It has been a while since I have worked with water planes and my current world, Stormwind and Elwynn Forest is starting to rack up the number of different water planes in the world. My question is how many water planes is too many? Currently there are over 20 different planes in this world and still need to add a few more. The reason there are so many is because of the complexity of the World of Warcraft original city layout, and since you cannot have the center of the plane underground multiple planes needed to be added to recreate the water details of Stormwind. Thank you in advance!!

In case anyone is interested here is the Sims 3 CAW Forum link: Stormwind and Elwynn Forest

@flstrider Sorry for the delay in replying to this thread, I hope your world is going well!

I think the acceptable number of water planes would depend upon a lot of other things too- like, how many lots does the world have, how many effects are you using, how many terrain paint layers- as well as the specifications of the players' computers, too.

We discussed some performance factors in this thread:

Some more info here:

How are you creating your water planes? I think you know about this tool:

Which I would recommend, as SuperCAW water planes trool may be bugged:

In general, I would ask for lots of beta testers- you could set up a creator feedback thread here, too. That will give you an idea of what will work for most people.

Thank you for the reply SS!!! So far the world is going pretty well and the alpha testing I have been doing in between seems to be OK but I do have a higher end machine. The world ended up with 31 water planes and I did use the water plane generator tool with the hex editor and S3PE I love that tool and that process, in general makes things a bit easier I think. Looking at the lots there are roughly 98(ish) lots and only using 6 different terrain paints in every chunk (they may be different ones, but only 6 in each chunk) so it should be good on that point. 5 sets of waterfalls with about 6 or 7 different falls/splash effects so that may be a bit much but Portaloosa had about the same and its running well, so who knows just going to have to get it out for testing as the lots get placed. Thanks again!!!!! (owe ya one!)

Sounds good! Do you have a thread where people could go to test your world?
