I wouldnt say it would be related to the animation, maybe something within the object?

Thanks for this, John. I am looking forward to playing around with this. Animations have always given me a bit of a headache.

i started with the gaint ninja and went step by step, but no luck...

Hey thanks for this tutorial, I've been looking for something to help me make a slam dunk contest. Hopefully, this will be the help I need.

the_crafter, This tutorial is for sims, not objects.

So far, I can't get the animations to work at all. At one point, the whole lot froze when I tried with a painting and the second time when I tried with the flamingo, it did nothing. Any advice?

Did you follow every single step exactly?

Pretty much yeah except when I replaced the resource, a window didn't pop up telling me that a resource had been replaced.

All right, turns out I overlooked something & the animations work now.

I thought so. One of the main reasons people don't get a successful result is because they overlook something or try a bit on their own. Well I am glad it's working for you.

just a small question about the animation part,

if having my first keyframe a sim with arms out like how they are will it do that when i have it animated?

The converter uses the first frame to get all the bone positions and rotation information.

The second keyframe will be the first one that your animation will use. The basic way that works is whatever position your sim is in when the animation is started is changed to the start position for the animation (in this project, your second keyframe).

well i geuss a better question would be, if the arms arn't by the side in the second keyframe will the animation jump to this in the game? Im trying to figure this out so i can get my sim to walk and then pose the way i want them too. soo i guess im just kinda confused on how im suposed to set up the animation frames so itll run smoothly from walking.

thanks so much wes!

Forwardmotionis, the first frame (arms out) does not show in the game, but it is needed as wes said, to get the joint positions and stuff.

Only to make one, there is no 'import' capability.

If you want to see one, PM me with your email address and I will send you an MS3D file with a sim and a simple animation you can play with.

Works wonderfully...you've not only taught me how to add it to the game but also how to actually create the animation in Milkshape. I had no idea it was that easy (in Milkshape, I mean).

I do not do requests; please don't ask!

Have anybody an idea about importing and exporting smd into Softimage XSI Mod Tool? Cause I don't work with Milkshape.
